What may have seemed utterly fantastical back in 1965, when Dune was first published, now feels much more plausible. The meteoric ascent of Artificial Intelligence has placed the rapidly developing technology on an apparent collision course with a human world where some hail it as a life changing technology, but many regard it with increasing suspicion and even alarm.

Humankind is already losing control of AI. We need a plan by Hadas Gold - Commentary@ITREALMS
If you’re a fan of Frank Herbert’s Dune novels, or their movie and miniseries adaptations, you’ll have noticed the absence of something normally central to science fiction: computers. In Dune-lore, thousands of years before the events depicted in the main story, humans had become dependent on so-called ‘thinking machines’, which then got too big for their CPUs and attempted – quite successfully it turned out – to enslave humanity. Eventually humankind fought back and overthrew their mechanical masters, after which any such machine was outlawed.

Inside Anambra’s ICT 2.0: Betting on localized AI, e-Governance beyond free Wi-Fi by Remmy Nweke - WeekendDigits@ITREALMS

When Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo reappointed Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata (CFA) to lead the Anambra State ICT Agency for a second tenure, the fundamental question confronting sub-national digital strategy was straightforward: what comes after laying the baseline fiber optic infrastructure and launching public Wi-Fi hotspots?

The Truth Tariff: AI, data costs, and financial paradox of African newsroom by Remmy Nweke | Telecoms Clinic@ITREALMS
Telecoms Clinic@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
Different trigger:
The tragedy of Major General Rabe Abubakar’s abduction was horrific enough. But as the news broke across Nigeria, the digital ecosystem pulled an entirely different kind of trigger. Along with the report, a viral photograph began tearing through social media channels. It was not General Abubakar. It was a completely different military officer, whose actual name was printed clearly on the uniform draped across his chest.
