2nd Niger bridge interchange: FG swiftly deploys contractors to remediate erosion threat - ITREALMS

Following alarm raised over gully erosion rapidly undermining the expressway at the Obosi/Asaba interchange of the Second Niger Bridge, emergency remedial work has officially commenced, reports ITREALMS.
Site photographs obtained on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, confirm that heavy construction equipment and engineering personnel have been deployed to the affected sector to stabilize the failing embankment and prevent further undercutting of the highway structure.

Some key field observations included that inspection team were on-site; construction engineers and security personnel were spotted assessing the hollowed-out section where floodwaters had washed away the soil beneath the main road shoulder.

Also, heavy machinery were deployed; earth-moving equipment, including a wheel loader and a cement mixer truck, has been brought onto the site to clear debris and prepare the ground for civil repairs.

Observer said that this emergency stabilization effort is now underway to reinforce the collapsed drainage channel and replace eroded soil with proper stone pitch paving and concrete barriers to divert floodwaters away from the road foundation.

The swift intervention comes as a major relief to commuters and motorists navigating the critical interstate corridor, mitigating the risk of a catastrophic highway failure.
