Delivering her welcome address at the 12th Annual Lecture and Realnews Magazine, Chigbo said that Realnews magazine picked ‘Africa in World Shifting Geopolitics: Matters Arising on Democracy, Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Resources’ “because we are concerned about how Africa could be integrated into the global economy amidst the move towards authoritarianism, protectionism, nationalism, and the unbridled influence of technology on the socioeconomic well-being of our people.”

Prominent Africans have confirmed their participation in the forthcoming Realnews 12th Anniversary Lecture on Tuesday, November 19, at the Sheraton Hotel starting at 10 am. They include Ms. Beatrice Eyong, UN Women's Country Representative; Karim El Aynaoui, Executive President, Policy Center for the New South, Rabat, Morocco; Mrs. Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President of Nigeria on Policy and Coordination as well as the Head, Central Delivery Coordination and Engr. Shehu Tijjani, Managing Director, Amal Technologies Ltd.

Ms. Eyong, a Cameronian national, will chair the lecture that will be delivered by Ambassador Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, former chief of staff of former President Muhammadu Buhari and former Permanent Representative of Nigeria at the United Nations. She will also moderate the discussion session featuring Bala Usman who doubles as a special guest and discussant along with Tijanni. El Aynaoui will also keynote the Lecture.

In her acceptance message dated September 10, 2024, Eyong, who has has over 35 years professional working experience in the international organisations in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, said: “I intend to attend the lecture…”

She holds a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Extension from the University of Reading, United Kingdom; a Diploma in Women, Extension workers and Agriculture from the Larenstein International
Agricultural College – Deventer, the Netherlands; and a Diploma in Integrated Rural Development, from the Pan African Institute for Development West Africa, Buea – Cameroon.

Also, El Aynaoui from Morocco, emailed on May 10, 2024, stating: “Thank you very much for your very kind invitation which I accept gladly. I am very honored”. He is also executive vice-president of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Dean of its Humanities, Economics, and Social Sciences Cluster, and an economist. From 2005 to 2012, he worked at the Central Bank of Morocco where he held the position of Director of Economics, Statistics, and International Relations. At the Central Bank of Morocco, he was in charge of the Research Department and equally a member of the Governor’s Cabinet. Previously, he worked for eight years at the World Bank as an Economist for its regional units in the Middle East and North Africa, and Africa.

Karim El Aynaoui has published books and journal articles on macroeconomic issues in developing countries.

On her part, Bala Usman, who has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Master's degree in Development Studies from the University of Leeds , UK, sent a message on July 13, 2024, stating: “I will be there and I have sent to my team to schedule”. Bala Usman was the former managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), an activist and a politician.

Similarly, Tijjani, described as a technologist, innovator, visionary leader and entrepreneur dedicated to transforming Nigeria’s technological landscape, said in his message: “Thank you for
the honour. I shall be in attendance by the grace of God.” Tijjani is a first class graduate in Information Technology and Business Information Systems from Middlesex University with a
background in hardware and firmware engineering.

Maureen Chigbo, the publisher of Realnews, said there will be an induction of all the speakers into The Realnews Hall of Fame immediately after the Lecture. Chigbo explained that the Realnews Hall of Fame was established to honour only those who played key roles during the anniversary lectures.

Mahama, Muhtar, others arrive Lagos for Realnews Lecture - ITREALMS

Former Ghanaian President John Mahama and Dr Mansur Muhtar, Vice President, Country Operations, Islamic Development Bank and former Nigerian finance Minister among others have arrived in Lagos from Accra Ghana and Jedda, Saudi Arabia, for the 7th Anniversary Lecture of Realnews Magazine slated for Tuesday, November 19, at Sheraton Hotels, Lagos. Mahama arrived Lagos on Monday and will deliver the lecture.

“Beyond Politics: An Economic Narrative for West Africa” is the main topic of the Lecture with “The End of Oil: Wither the Nigeria Economy” as the sub-theme.

Maureen Chigbo, publisher of Realnews online Magazine, said: “Our choice of the 2019 topic and sub-theme was informed by the need to escalate and broaden the conversation on the economic challenges facing the region with Nigeria as its economic powerhouse, and Africa in general, with a view to teasing out lasting solutions and against the background of the recently endorsed Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA).

Mahama’s impressive antecedent and vast experience in governance and leadership in policy formation and implementation across disciplines, including agriculture, communications, environment and politics, puts him in a good stead to do justice to the topic, especially at this critical juncture of West Africa’s struggles on the path to regional development and integration.

With Muhtar, Vice President, Country Operations, Islamic Development Bank and former Nigerian finance Minister as Chairman, this year’s annual lecture will bring together policy and decision makers from the private and public sectors, academia and civil society, including the media. Muhtar will also speak on "The End of Oil: Wither the Nigeria Economy".

Like in previous occasions, it will also feature a stimulating Panel Discussion by experts with guaranteed audience participation. The panelists are Mr. Alex Ayoola Okoh, director general, Bureau of Public Enterprises, BPE, and Mrs. Margaret Olele, chief executive officer of American Business Council.

Born in Damongo in the Damango-Daboya Constituency of Northern region of Ghana, into a political leadership tradition, Mahama is the first President of Ghana to be born after the country’s independence.

A former Minister of State and Member of Parliament, he studied history and communications in Ghana with a major in social psychology in his postgraduate education in Moscow, the former Soviet Union.

Muhtar, Okoh, Olele line-up for Realnews 7th lecture - ITREALMS

The Seventh anniversary lecture slated for Tuesday, November 19, 2019 by Realnews Magazine and Publications Limited has continued to attract quality panelists including Dr. Mansur Muhtar, Mr. Alex Okoh and Margaret Olele to name a few, reports ITREALMS.

The lecture with the theme “Beyond Politics: An Economic Narrative for West Africa” ITREALMS reported would be delivered by His Excellency, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the former president of Ghana.

Confirmed! John Mahama to deliver Realnews 7th annual lecture in Lagos - ITREALMS

Former President, Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, has been confirmed as guest lecturer at the Seventh Anniversary Lecture of Realnews Magazine on Tuesday, November 19, at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, reports ITREALMS.

Mahama would be speaking on the theme: “Beyond Politics: An Economic Narrative for West Africa” just as there are subtheme “The End of Oil: Wither the Nigeria Economy.”

Realnews apps available on Google, Windows play stores

Acclaimed Nigerian-based online publication, the Realnews Magazine, has created an Android and Windows 10 Apps to boost accessibility to readers, reports ITRealms.

The apps, ITRealms are now downloadable via links available in Google and Windows Play stores, which the publishers say afford readers with national, regional and international news and breaking stories.

According to Maureen Chigbo, publisher/editor, Realnews, through the Apps Realnews will be disseminating well investigated stories on national and international issues on oil and gas, business and economic, environment, politics, youth, women and children etc.

“The Android and Window Apps can be downloaded from the Google and Windows Play Stores. Downloading the Apps will enable you access news and breaking stories at any time no matter where you are,” she said.

Further, she said, the Android and Windows, stressing that the new Apps are in line with the vision of the organization to build a reputable world class media institution whose watchword is professionalism and integrity.

“The Apps are part of the overall efforts to increase access and visibility of Realnews,” she said.

The lecture, ITRealms gathered, has been scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, by 10 am.

Publisher of Realnews Magazine Online, Maureen Chigbo, confirmed this to ITRealms, saying that Ezekwesili, who is the co-founder of Transparency International, will speak on “African Leadership in a Turbulent Era”. 

She will be delivering the lecture barely a month after the Sweden-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) appointed her along with Kofi Annan, former United Nations secretary general among others  as  an Ambassador to champion the study on Global State of Democracy. 

Chigbo stressed that Ezekwesili will be the first female to give the Realnews Anniversary Lecture series which was established to celebrate the best minds in our society and tap into their repository of knowledge to enrich the discourse on national and international development. 

Realnews past anniversary lecturers included Dr. Ibn Mohamed Chambers, United Nations Secretary General’s special representative to West African and Sahel (2016); Professor Chukwuma Soludo, former governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, (2015) and Professor Maurice Iwu, former chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, (2014).


Chigbo said that the lecture will bring together many policy and decision makers from the private and public sectors as well as non-governmental organizations and the media.
