The Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) has strongly condemned the arbitrary shutdown of Badeggi FM by the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, reports ITREALMS.

CEMESO views this action as a blatant abuse of executive power, violating the rule of law and the rights of the media house and journalists.
Governor Bago had directed the closure of Badeggi FM, citing public incitement, and ordered the revocation of its license, profiling of the owner, and marking of the premises for demolition.

CEMESO's Executive Director, Dr. Akin Akingbulu, described the governor's action as "a brazen abuse of executive power and assault on the rule of law."

Akingbulu wondered why the governor did not refer his concerns to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the statutory regulator.

CEMESO demands the immediate reversal of the shutdown order, withdrawal of license revocation and demolition threats, and respect for press freedom and due process.

They also urge the NBC to intervene and ensure the protection of the broadcasting industry.
