Former Communications Minister, Audu Ogbeh passes on - ITREALMS

Former Federal Minister of Communications, Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh, has died in the early hours of Saturday, August 9 at the age of 78 years, reports ITREALMS.

Ogbeh who was the Minister of Communications between 1982 and 1983 during the reign of President Shehu Aliyu Shagari. He was also former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development during the Igbophobic era of late General Muhammadu Buhari between November 11, 2015 and May 28, 2019.
ITREALMS noted that Ogbeh was equally a former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for five years, between the year 2001and 2005.

His death was confirmed in a press statement available to ITREALMS by the family on Saturday, which stated in part:

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather; Chief Audu Ogbeh. He passed away on the 9th of August 2025 at the fulfilled age of 78.

“He departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community. We are comforted by the many lives he touched and the example he set.

“Details of the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.”

The family further appreciated friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their prayers and support at this time.

They equally pleaded for “some privacy at this time while we mourn the loss of our patriarch.”

ITREALMS gathered that Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh was born on 28 July 1947 in Otukpo, Northern region, and today’s Benue State.
