Intel shares vision for future technology innovation




 

Intel, the company that designs and builds the essential technologies that serve as the foundation for the world's computing devices has shared its vision for future technology innovation with developers and partners, ITRealms gathered.

The partners, information said, would create the products, engineer the systems, render the movies, and power the toys and devices that create amazing experiences.

The Chief Executive Officer of Intel, Brian Krzanich in his opening address at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco, highlighted new products, tools and programs that support the growing personalization of computing and explained the trends creating new opportunities for developers across an unprecedented breadth of technologies, ITRealms reports. 

He also said that computing has become increasingly personal, enhancing nearly all aspects of life, “Computers are on our desks, in our bags, in our clothes, in our homes and on our bodies. They are not only growing smarter and more connected, but gaining senses and becoming an extension of ourselves.” 

Noting that an ecosystem was emerging around Intel to address growing opportunities for computing, detailing many of the essential products, technologies and tools from the company that will help developers make the differentiated experiences possible.

He also unveiled a number of updates to Intel Real Sense technology that will bring depth sensing to more devices and applications, and announced new collaborations for securing the Internet of Things (IoT), in addition to programs and toolkits for developers to help speed industrial IoT solutions to market, ITRealms reports.

DHL Sub-Saharan Africa launches TC55



 


DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa has launched TC55 pocket-sized, all-touch computers that capitalizes on the latest technological advancements to ensure customers on the continent benefit from increased visibility and an enhanced experience, reports ITRealms.

The TC55 scanners operate on an Android platform and in addition to ease of use; they also have built-in location services and GPS navigation capabilities. The rise of e-commerce and increased competition are driving the demand for real-time supply chain visibility.

The Vice President, Operations, DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa,Oliver Facey, said that supply chain operators should increasingly invest in transportation management systems and solutions to improve the quality, speed and precision of service.  He says that these improvements will not only enhance customer experience, but also reduce operating costs and give operators a competitive advantage, ITRealms gathered.

“We operate across 51 markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, servicing over 40,000 customers; therefore delivery efficiency is key for us. As a network business, we need to ensure that our shipment data is captured accurately and in real-time. Our growth plans and improvements are driven by the voice of our customer, and in challenging and competitive global environments, they need us to provide accurate and real-time information to ensure that they maintain their competitive edge and speed to market,” saidFacey. 

“The new technology increases the speed at which we can process shipments at both customer locations and DHL facilities and also empowers our frontline employees with access to real-time shipment information which will assist them with workload management. Unlike consumer-grade counterparts, these devices have integrated data-capture capabilities, and are also built to endure the wear and tear of industrial environments,” adds Facey.

SCAPO demands apology from Southern Cameroons over annexation



The enlarged meeting of the National Executive Committee of the Southern Cameroons Peoples Organisation (SCAPO) Political Party ended in Bamenda on August 15, 2015 with a demand of an apology from Southern Cameroons over annexation, reports ITRealms.

In a four-point communique made available to ITRealms and signed by chairman, Ways and Means Commission, SCAPO, a Southern British Cameroons Political Party, Rt. Hon. Aloysius Ntemfac Nkong Ofege, said the apology must get to the organization within the next 30 days.

SCAPO also invited the United Nations Organisation, UNO, to set up a Transition Administration in the former United Nations Organisation Trust Territory of the Southern British Cameroons.
In addition, SCAPO demanded a national apology from the people and the government of Cameroun Republic (French Cameroun) to the people and State of Southern Cameroons within 30 days for annexation and colonisation whereas on April 21, 1961, at the UN General Assembly, the said French Cameroun voted “NO” on UN (GA) Resolution 1608 XV concerning the independence of Southern British Cameroons and on the proposal for Southern Cameroons to join her.
Further, SCAPO sought immediate restoration of the State of Southern Cameroons and all its institutions as improved.
According to SCAPO, a public statement by the government of Cameroun Republic either accepting or rejecting the proposal by the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (ACHPR), for dialogue between the State of Southern Cameroons and French Cameroun on Peaceful Separation after what could only be characterised as a failed union.
“The national and international press, as well as the national and international community especially the good people of Southern Cameroons, are hereby informed that the Southern Cameroons Peoples Organisation, SCAPO, is now fully functional as a Southern British Cameroons Political Party with activities to be announced in the coming days,” Ofege said.

5 StarTimes subscribers to watch life German Bundesliga



Digital Television (TV) service provider, StarTimes, has announced names of the first five winners of an all-expense paid trip to Germany to watch and enjoy the thrills and sporting actions of the German Bundesliga football, and meet the super stars.

The company, at the first draw held in Abuja, at the weekend, picked the first five winners out of the 10 slots up for grabs in its ongoing 'Win A Trip to Germany' promo while the remaining five winners will emerge at the end of the promo in September.

Buhari seeks comprehensive report on NITEL sale




President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Federal Ministry of Communications Technology (CommTech) to submit to his office a comprehensive report on the sale of the Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and its mobile arm, MTel, reports ITRealms.


The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Media & Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu confirmed to to ITRealms, saying President Buhari gave this directive Tuesday while giving audience to the leadership of the Ministry, Departments and Agencies under CommTech,led by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Tunji Olaopa, President Buhari gave this charge, saying that the continued protests of former NITEL employees and other Nigerians over the manner in which assets of the company were sold have become a call for concern.


He also expressed optimism on potential of increasing revenue-generation potential of Nigeria's information and communication technology sector.


Equally, Buhari directed the Ministry to bring forward for his consideration and approval, all pending proposals for the development of the country's ICT sector which require the approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).


"Where you don’t need EXCO approval and you are not in breach of the law and will not lose money, you can go ahead. Now that oil costs less and we are contending with its theft, we have to move to areas where we can realize revenue quickly,” Mr. President said.


He welcomed plans by the Ministry to use post-offices across the country for financial inclusion, especially in the rural communities, stressed that he was happy to hear that “we are recovering the post offices from rats and rodents.”


The Ministry’s presentation to the President dwelled heavily on the potential of the ICT sector which, Dr. Olaopa said, contributes 10 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but could grow to 20 per cent if some proposals by the Ministry are approved and implemented.

Android One makes debut in Nigeria, as MTN offers 1g data @N500 on Infinix phones

Google Nigeria in partnership with equipment manufacturer Infinix, mobile operator MTN Nigeria and online retailer Jumia, Tuesday in Lagos, launched the AndroidOne initiative with Infinix HOT 2-X510, reports ITRealms.

This is coming as Infinix HOT 2-X510 smartphone, which is the first device to run on Android One in Africa, comes at a recommended retail price of N17,500 in addition to N500 1Gig data from leading mobile operator, MTN Nigeria.

AndriodOne initiative, Google said, is part of an on-going initiative to bring high-quality smartphones to millions of people in Asia, Africa and other parts of the world, just as the offer makes Infinix commercially available across give countries, namely Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and Morocco.

The Vice President, Product Management at Google, Mr. Caesar Sengupta, said that over three billion people across the world are using the internet to live better, richer lives and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

“The driving force behind this growth - particularly in Nigeria and many other African countries -  is smartphones. In Nigeria, over 70% of online users access the web via their phones. Android One offers high quality mobile devices that are great to use, but that are also affordable,” he said.

Managing Director, Infinix, Mr. Ben Jiang told ITRealms at the launch that Infinix HOT2 phone, offers a high-quality experience, with latest version of Android known as 5.1.1 Lollipop.

He also said that Infinix has been structured to constantly update its Andriod Operating System (OS); an update that will offer Google’s new material design, improved battery life, enhanced security features, and smarter notifications.

In terms of hardware, Mr. Jiang the phone features front and rear-facing cameras, 1G or 2G of memory, fast quad-core MediaTek processor, long battery life and other features particularly important to Nigerians, including dual SIM slots, a FM radio tuner, 16 GB on-device storage and a microSD card slot for additional storage.

The Infinix HOT 2 smartphone comes in two variants; the standard version, which will be available in black, white, blue and red, and the premium version which will be available in gold.

Through Google Play, Android One phone users have access to over one million apps that allow them to message friends, make video calls, socialize, check news and weather, and play games. Google apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Translate will come pre-loaded on the phones.

Google also announced that in coming weeks much of YouTube will be available offline in Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and Morocco, meaning that people can store videos in the YouTube app when they are on WiFi and watch them later when they not online — a great benefit for times with a slow connection or re-watching videos without using up a data plan.
 
Reiterating MTN position, the Managing Director, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Mike Ikpoki said the offer of N500 reduces data costs for those who buy the Infinix Hot 2 Android One phone with an MTN SIM card, customers would get 1GB high speed data at N500 for a 12 months period, and the latest Android platform updates for free.
