The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commenced a public inquiry to gather industry input on three key regulatory instruments expected to shape Nigeria’s broadband future, reports ITREALMS.

The inquiry, held at the commission’s headquarters on Tuesday in Abuja and streamed virtually to accommodate wider participation, drew representatives from network operators, internet service providers, infrastructure providers, broadcast entities, regulators, consumer groups, and analysts from the wider digital ecosystem.

NLNG, last week, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, kicked off its Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC-HCD) Basic Training Programme for the NLNG Train 7 Project, a major NC programme aimed at reskilling young graduates and developing human capital.

A total of 331 young graduates from diverse academic disciplines who emerged successful out of 848 previously shortlisted from the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content (NOGIC) Joint Qualification System (JQS) portal of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), are undergoing the 12-month programme.

The Prof Ben Nwabueze National Burial Committee co-chaired by Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Commonwealth Secretary-General, and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, on Monday, announced activities for the burial of the foremost Constitutional Lawyer, reports ITREALMS.

Late Prof Nwabueze, was extraordinary scholar, teacher, lawyer, winner of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM), Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and one-time Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, who passed away on October 29, 2023 at the age of 92.

The final funeral rites for Mrs Regina Chinwe Bel-Molokwu, departed wife of a former Registrar of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) would commence, tomorrow, Thursday, 28 July with a Service of Songs at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland, Lagos at 6 pm.

Onitsha's Molokwu and Umunna families said their daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, Onyeomadiuko Mrs Regina Chniwe Bel-Molokwu died on Wednesday, 29 June 2022, at age 67.

Automobile: Enyo begins CSR training for 5000 technicians

Technology-driven oil retail and supply company, Enyo has commenced its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to train some 5000 auto mechanics nationwide, reports ITRealms.

The Chief Executive Officer of Enyo, Abayomi Awoboku said the training is having its first batch in Lagos in partnership with AutoMedics, a leading motor mechanic consultancy and training outfit.

He also said the initiative is aimed at giving back to the society by helping to close the requisite skills gap in developing human capacity to continually service the automobile sector.

“The sector in recent times is being driven by latest trends and technological advancement as vehicles are now more systematic and computerized,” he said.

Awoboku equally noted that in many countries around the world, the automotive industry plays both a strategic and catalytic role in economic development in respect of the Gross Domestic Produce (GDP) contribution. 

“If Nigeria must play globally and competitively in the development in the automobile sector, there is need for stakeholders to invest in human capital development and technology, in other to improve after sales challenges and meet up with the paradigm shift in the industry” he said.

Awoboku also  emphasized on the importance of the training, stressing that automotive has changed in terms of the electronics.

“It is expected that technology will continue to develop so we need to look at how we can maintain the vehicles we have on our roads,” he said.

ITRealms recalls the programme is aimed at training a new generation of auto mechanics that will understand the workings of today’s hi-tech vehicles to grow their own capacities now and for the future.

The training partner and Chief Executive Officer of Auto Medics, Kunle Shonaike, believes Nigeria is very important to the global automotive business as as nearly all brands in the industry compete for a share to capture the market, the lamenting challenges of automobile maintenance in Nigeria.

Shonaike, the United States (US)-trained automobile technician noted that “proper maintenance standards have eluded vehicle owners and users in Nigeria especially in the face of unprofessionalism and the largely unregulated readily available roadside operations”.

“I urge all the stakeholders not to allow the litany of challenges evident in the sector to squeeze life out of the industry. We all need to utilize a strategic platform as this one to draw attention to happenings in the sector through our active participations. This is why despite the daunting challenges we have been facing we have resolved to ensure we promote standards through trainings such as this” he emphasized.

The auto mechanical technicians training which was powered by Mech Tech is expected to be rounded off with a graduation ceremony later in the year.

‘Change Begins With Me’ goes to Police

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has taken the Change Begins With Me campaign to the leadership of the Nigeria Police, reports ITRealms.

Presenting the campaign to the Nigeria Police Force, led by the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris, Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police, the minister said the multi-media presentation, at the Police Headquarters in Abuja, was in recognition of the critical role of the police in the success of the campaign, which was launched by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on 8th Sept. 2016.

''This is very important because the police, by virtue of its duties, is a critical stakeholder in this campaign,'' he said, describing 'Change Begins With Me' as a Pan Nigeria Campaign that has no coloration whatsoever - whether it is political, religious or ethnic.

''It is a campaign for all Nigerians, with the sole objective of achieving a paradigm shift in the way we do things. The campaign is based on one principle: Each one of us must be the change we want to see in our society,” he said.

The Minister, who had earlier joined the IGP in decorating some newly-promoted AIGs, urged the critics of the campaign to endeavour to understand it before casting aspersion on it.

''Contrary to the misconception in certain quarters, this campaign was designed to start from the very top, right from the President, the Vice President, Ministers and other top government officials, and then cascade down to all Nigerians. Therefore, those who have said the campaign is aimed at saddling only the ordinary citizens with any burden have been unduly hasty. They should have at least waited for us to roll out the campaign before criticising it,'' the Minister said.

He commended the police for their efforts at ensuring the security of lives and property, urging them not to be discouraged by criticism.
