Commentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

"... They were spontaneously and intermittently shouting, “now that you want to go as Biafrans we will kill you before you go.”
Last week, precisely on the 13th of July 2021, some Nigerian soldiers in a shameless display of putrid military barbarism, swooped on the defenceless Igbo spare parts dealers at the popular Ladipo Market, Mushin Lagos and pointedly shot five Igbo traders there dead on the spot on the unfancied allegation that they (soldiers) bought a fake car engine from one of the traders at the market a year ago and had come to the market to have it replaced.
While the soldiers were mowing down the traders they were spontaneously and intermittently shouting, “now that you want to go as Biafrans we will kill you before you go”.

“This has been run for 10 years on behalf of the Rotary Club of Ikeja, others have theirs. We have a management team that helps monitor these beneficiaries and it includes the executives and past leaders of the associations.

Lagos to relocate traders at Festac gates

The Lagos State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Musiliu Folami has disclosed that the State Government will soon relocate all the traders from Festac Gates One, Two and Three to a more conducive environment within Festac Town, reports ITRealms.

The Commissioner revealed this at the weekend at a meeting with market men and women from Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, saying the gates are not designated as market places, just as, they are also being used as a base by criminals and evil minded individuals to perpetuate their heinous crimes on residents in the area.

He assured that Gov. Ambode’s administration would do everything in its power to protect and secure the lives and properties of all residents as well as ensure that every part of the State is safe and secured to live.

The Commissioner also said that, apart from the market location being on an international route to the neighbouring countries, the presence of the market contributes to the gridlock on the highway which hoodlums capitalise on to rob law abiding citizens during traffic congestion.

The Executive Secretary, Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Deaconess Dupe Ajibola-Ojodu in her address said she is happy that the State Government has good plans for all the traders in the area, adding that, the planned relocation of the market by the present administration to a better and conducive environment will be of enormous benefit to the traders in the long run.

Responding on behalf of other traders, the Babaloja General, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Alhaji Bolaji GbolahanYussuf commended the government for the initiative, saying that, they are ready to support the Government in developing the State.

Yussuf also noted that considering the high number of the traders and buyers who have been doing their businesses in the market, they would prefer being relocated to a closer place that will be conducive and safe for their businesses.

Lagos warns on Central Business District, starts enforcement

The Lagos State Government has commenced the enforcement of rules and regulations guiding Central Business District (CBD) as part of measures to curb illegal activities of traders and motorists that impede free flow of human and vehicular movement, ITRealms reports.

Special Adviser to the Governor on CBD, Mr. Agboola Dabiri gave this indication when he led enforcement team to Lagos Island CBD, stressing that, the government would no longer condone street trading, display of goods on the roads, walkways and illegal parking, as well as driving against the traffic.

“The State Government will no longer tolerate any act of impunity by traders and motorists. You have been warned over time to desist from all illegal activities that impede traffic,” he said, adding that, anyone caught will be made to face the full wrath of the law so as to serve as deterrent to others.

Dabiri declared that the inspection would continue ``until we all abide by all CBD rules and regulations which centered mainly on orderliness, conformity and free flow of traffic in line with international standard for CBD in developed countries”.

ITRealms gathered that over 15 vehicles were impounded in the exercise which commenced from Onikan through Broad Street, Apongbon, Elegbeta, Ebute Ero and Idumagbo. Other areas involved are Eyin Eyo, CMS, Eja Lonibu and Tinubu.

A score of recalcitrant traders were also arrested and goods seized in an exercise that caught traders, motorists and other stakeholders unaware.
