Dangote Cement Plc has expanded its scholarship programme beyond her immediate communities’ to cover other communities in Oworoland, Lokoja LGA, Kogi State.

Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony in Obajana on Monday, the Plant Director, Azad Nawabuddin, explained that although the Oworo communities do not fall directly within the company’s catchment areas, Dangote Cement had chosen to extend its generosity by extending her CSR activities, most especially scholarship scheme to Oworo students using the wider reach and credibility of Oworo Development Association (ODA).

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has refuted certain publications and social media reports containing misleading information regarding the operations of a regulated financial institution, reports ITREALMS.

The apex bank noted that its attention has been drawn to the misleading publication, and wishes to categorically reassure the public, depositors, and stakeholders that the Nigerian banking sector remains resilient, safe, and sound.

It is profoundly disappointing to witness the alarming trend of naming public institutions, infrastructure, and military facilities after a sitting president. This act runs counter to established principles of honor, service, and public morality. The recent decisions to name critical institutions after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including barracks, airports, and other facilities, reflect a troubling disregard for historical preservation, respect for our fallen heroes, and the collective legacy of the Nigerian people.

The renaming of a military barracks in Asokoro after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is particularly egregious. Military barracks are not mere structures; they are sanctuaries of sacrifice, discipline, and service to the nation. Naming such an institution after a sitting president, while Nigeria has countless soldiers who paid the ultimate price for our security, is a direct affront to their memory. It disregards the values of humility and honor associated with the armed forces and diminishes the legacy of those whose selfless acts secured our freedom.

A public relations strategist, Dr. Walter Duru, has called on public institutions across Africa to evolve plans for rumour management as part of their overall communication strategy.

Duru, an Assistant Professor of Communications and Multimedia Design made the call while contributing to a discourse on communications and citizens engagement during the just concluded ID4Africa Conference held in Marrakech, Morocco.

Describing rumour management as an important public relations function, the communication expert argued that rumours can puncture public trust, frustrate investments and adversely affect project implementation, if not properly managed.

… Winners emerge at 2022 .NG Awards

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), the registry for .ng country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD), has again honoured private and public institutions, as well as individuals promoting the brand, reports ITREALMS.

The 2022 .ng Awards which is the fifth in the series, was held in Lagos recently with twenty-two (22) private entities and four (4) public institutions, as well as six (6) individual recognized.

Sex-for-marks menance in Nigeria's tertiary institutions - ITREALMS

The issue of sex-for-marks in tertiary institutions in Nigeria has refused to go away and has been ravaging the image of the institutions. The sex-for-marks episodes are part of a broader societal trend of Nigerian men abusing their authority by exploiting women.

This ugly menace is as old as the institutions, it does not only exist in tertiary institutions, but in other sectors in the country where there is an interface between male and female.

For those already caught in the act, call it a case of a dog caught with excreta in its mouth, not minding that other dogs eat excreta. In saying the truth, sex-for-marks rackets puts dark spots on the institutions in the country and takes off the shine of such institutions without the mention of excellence. I must also say here that some lazy students make sexual advances towards the lecturers, so as to enable them pass their courses and these randy lecturers pounce on them.

If there exist a perfect understanding between the both, nobody gets to know, as it has two angles to it. This requires a holistic approach, so as to be solved.

There is need for moral rebirth in the society, the tertiary institutions inclusive. We need a Godfearing society for this act to be condemned thoroughly and punitive measures put in place to lock down those found in this ugly act. This act is not new, but more pronounced ever than before.

There are family and social vices at a high rate, so that of the tertiary institutions won't be an exception. Many ills permeates the society, we must do the right thing. Some lecturers have thrown the profession into the lagoon, at the admiration of sexual advances.

Sex-for-marks mentality is unethical, immoral and against the rules and regulations of any tertiary institution. I want to believe that each tertiary institution ought to have a gender equality commission union, so as to address these issues.

Tertiary institutions are no longer ivory of towers, but now an arena for sexual victimization. Lecturers fond of sex-for-marks attitude are morally debased. For me, they are not qualified to be called lecturers, as they are not worthy both in learning and character.

The ubiquity of sexual exploitation in tertiary institutions is a product of Nigeria's deeply patriarchal system where men control power structures and individual relationship.

I see sex-for-marks as a form of examination malpractice in tertiary institutions or another level of sorting that exist in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Lecturers that people look up to, to help them in garnering knowledge in their academic studies, are now seen as men they can't take off their eyes off female skirts/pants. The idea of calling someone a lecturer should be viewed as a vehicle with many integral parts and must understand what it entails.

The time to really redefine what tertiary institutions stands for is now, things should be put in the proper perspective or else this menace won't stop because some lecturers live a life deep-rooted in sexual harrasment, which to them is a way of life and like some politicians, there is no repentance in their blood.

FG integrates entrepreneurship studies in tertiary institutions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has integrated Entrepreneurship Studies in most of the nation’s tertiary institutions, reports ITRealms.

According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal and State Governments have established hundreds of specialized Vocational and Technical Secondary Schools.

In addition, Nigeria, the Ministry said, has scores of Polytechnics and Monotechnics with the curricula geared towards training students in various trades and vocations.

Director of Information at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Salisu Na’Inna Dambatta disclosed to ITRealms in a press statement that the recently launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, contains a section on the training and equipping youth with vocational and entrepreneurship skills.

The Federal Ministry of Finance, he further said, through its YouWinConnect programme has launched Enterprise Education outreach in newspapers which it plans to take to the Internet, radio and television stations for wider reach.

The outreach, Dambatta told ITRealms, is aimed at imparting basic business management skills for running existing and start-ups enterprises profitably and narrating the experiences of successful entrepreneurs to inspire enterprising youth in the country.

Meanwhile Nigeria is among the participants at the maiden Islamic Development Bank Youth Summit (IsDBY) held on the sidelines of the 42^nd Annual Meeting of the Bank in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
