Addressing members during the inauguration, the NCS President stressed the importance of openness to advice and collective contributions, noting that the diversity within the society remains its strength.

Towards the conclusion of the teachers’ recruitment exercise, the Osun State Executive Council has directed the Ministry of Education to conduct interviews for applicants within the cut off range adopted after the recruitment test.

The Council presided over by Governor Ademola Adeleke gave the directive after receiving updated reports from the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Adedipo Eluwole, who briefed the council on the activities leading to this final stage of the exercise.

Lagos Exco holds first-ever virtual meeting - ITREALMS

The Lagos State Government Executive Council, Tuesday leveraged technologies for their weekly meeting, reports ITREALMS.

Sources close to Alausa Secretariat, informed ITREALMS that it was banters here and there, waving of hands and laughter.

“Can you see me?” Am I connected?” “Yeah, I’m here”.

"Suddenly, at about 11.05am, the Chairman enters and announces his presence by calling the house to order. All is quiet.

"It was an exciting moment this morning at the Lagos State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting – the first-ever virtual meeting in the history of governance in the State. Nigeria? Well, not clear.

"The Chairman is no other person than Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. The Deputy Chair is Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor.

"Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso said the meeting was held via Zoom, a free high-definition (HD) meeting application with video and screen sharing for up to 100 people.

"It was all in compliance with the directive against gatherings as part of the anti-Coronavirus battle-plan.

“The meeting was slated for 10.45am but almost all EXCO members had hooked up to the system by 10.00am, awaiting the arrival of Mr. Governor to kickstart deliberations for the day,” Omotoso said.

Governor Sanwo-Olu came online at about 11.05am. On top of the agenda was the review of the management of COVID-19, especially the provision of additional isolation centres; the fumigation of the State against the spread of the virus, and the package for the less-privileged and daily income earners, the indigent.

“The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Gbolahan Lawal briefed members on the distribution of the relief packages to local governments and local council development areas. Members reviewed areas where teething problems occurred and proffered ideas to solve identified problems,” he added.

"There were comments by some members. As the debates and clarifications went on, the Chairman announced that those eager to speak should spend a minute each.

"While acknowledging the excitement of members for being part of the first virtual meeting of the Lagos State Executive Council, the Commissioner said the feat affirmed that governance in Lagos will proceed seamlessly despite the 14-day restriction announced by President Muhammadu Buhari.
ITREALMS recalls that Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja are on a 14-day lockdown.

“Members were in high spirits. Some of us were in our offices; others attended the online meeting from the comfort of their homes. With this historic achievement, residents are assured that governance in Lagos State will continue, irrespective of the situation around us,” Omotoso asserted.

The idea of the online meeting was mooted by Governor Sanwo-Olu, who directed the Ministry of Science and Technology to facilitate it. The Special Adviser (Innovation and Technology), Mr. Olatunbosun Alake, moderated the meeting, reading out the dos and don’ts of the session which Science and Technology Commissioner, Hakeem Fahm described as “historic”.

“We should let our people know about this,” Waterfront Infrastructure Development Commissioner, Kabiru Ahmed said excitedly after the meeting.

ReapVille School hosts special assembly, elects PTA Exco - ITREALMS

ITREALMS: 

ReapVille School, Oshodi-Lagos, has elected the pioneer Executive Committee for its Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) with Mrs. Nkem Nweke emerging as the chairperson, reports ITREALMS.

They were elected at a recent PTA meeting following a special assembly session held in the school premises by the pupils.

Mrs Nweke would be joined in the PTA Exco by Mr Kazeem Akinpelu - Vice Chairperson, Mrs Udeme Akpan Umoh - Financial Secretary, Mrs Udeme Akpan Umoh - Financial Secretary, Mrs Ngozi Nzeh M – Treasurer, and Mrs Chinyere Fred-Alabi as the Public Relations Officer (PRO).

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Nweke promised on behalf of her team to do their best towards contributing to the upliftment of ReapVille schools, especially the well-being of the pupils and teachers welfare.

She expressed thanks to other parents and teachers in the trust they have on the new PTA Executive Committee.

The Director and proprietress, ReapVille Schools, Mrs. Philomena Ugwuoke commended the PTA committee for accepting to serve in this capacity, hoping that ReapVille schools intend to benefit from their anticipated contributions in keeping to the standards of the school.

Reapville School, she said, is committed to provide pupils with an education that is unique based on their collaborative learning, extra curricula activity and supportive learning environment which foster independence, strength of character and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.

And based on their culture, Reapville School, Ugwuoke pointed out is dedicated to develop an inclusive child education driven by technology, passionate and well-motivated staff and active parent participation.

“We believe every child will learn and flourish with the support of a committed team; touching the psychological, cognitive, spiritual and social development of the child,” she said.

In addition, Ugwuoke noted that their curriculum challenges and help students reason analytically, think creatively and argue critically.

“We offer our pupils the best in early childhood education within a friendly and caring environment,” she said, stressing that focus on character development and effective learning through interaction, differentiated methods and other unique psychological tested and approved method of teaching and learning for the benefit of the learner.

Iworiso-Markson hosts NIPR Exco, tasks on practitioners patronage

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson has tasked members of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in the state to raise their act in order to attract desired patronage, reports ITRealms.

According to him, as public relations practitioners, NIPR must be more visible through regular activities and public interest programmes.

Iworiso Markson, a renowned Public Relations practitioner himself, gave the advice during a courtesy call on him by members of the NIPR, Bayelsa State Chapter.

He also charged them to voice their views on the developmental strides of the present administration, which he described as a watershed in the history of the state.

He urged NIPR as a credible voice not to shy away from telling the success story of restoration Government on-going in the state.

As a senior member of the institute, Iworiso-Markson said he will be working with the leadership of NIPR to ensure that the organization claim its pride of place. 

Earlier, the Chairman of the State Chapter of NIPR, Prince Sherif Hussain Enebi had congratulated the commissioner for the professional way he has performed his responsibilities since his foray into the public service.

Prince Enebi acknowledged the recognition that the institute had received from the state government since the appointment of Mr. Iworiso Markson and called for closer ties between the state Ministry of Information and the NIPR for effective rebranding of the state.

PRCAN re-elects Ehiguese, Akintunde, others as exco

The Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria (PRCAN), the professional association charged with the responsibility of regulating public relations consulting in Nigeria, has sworn in re-elected executive members to the steer affairs of the association for the next two years. This was the highpoint of activities at the association’s 2017 Annual General Meeting held in Ikeja on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Executive members who got re-elected to continue the good work are President, John Ehiguese, representing Mediacraft Associates; Vice President, Muyiwa Akintunde of Leap Communications; and Secretary General, Adetola Odusote from CMC Connect Burson-Marsteller. Others re-elected into the leadership of the association include: Publicity Secretary, Israel Opayemi, representing Chain Reactions Nigeria and Treasurer, Mojisola Saka, representing   SoulComm; while Tampiri Irimagha-Akemu of Sesema PR is Assistant Secretary General.

Speaking on behalf of the elected executives, Ehiguese thanked members for their confidence and support. He promised to take the professional association to the next level of development.

Making a presentation titled, “Ten Questions about the state of PR Practice in Nigeria”, Ehiguese charged member-agencies on the importance of accurate and reliable data and documentation to the development of public relations practice in Nigeria.

 “It is very important for us as public relations consultants to start documenting our research works and case studies. That is the only thing that can stand us out as serious professionals ready to play on the global stage. We execute wonderful public relations campaigns with potentials for winning international public relations awards, but if we don’t document our works as case studies, it becomes difficult to enter them for such awards”.

He added that the world already knew that the Nigerian market had huge potentials, but that we needed to move beyond that narrative, to begin to show what we could do, and what we were doing, as our contribution to the growth of PR globally.

Making a comparison with the public relations industry in some other parts of the world, Ehiguese added: “Public relations practice in many of these countries is not necessarily better than what obtains in Nigeria. The only edge they have over us is that their systems are more organised in terms of infrastructural support, research, documentation and higher ethical threshold.”

Ehiguese further stated that one of the reasons Nigeria never featured in the yearly Holmes Report on the state of the global industry was the near-absence of data to track the growth of the industry. He however pledged that his leadership would re-launch an effort aimed at tracking the growth of the industry in Nigeria by measuring the quantum of public relations businesses done in Nigeria annually through a data-gathering initiative that would involve member-agencies disclosing their fee income from clients and the cost of public relations campaigns done for clients in Nigeria.

Lending his voice to the discussion, Past President of PRCAN and Chairman of C&F Porter Novelli, Nn’emeka Maduegbuna said the public relations industry in Nigeria has a lot of potentials. But he counselled that practitioners must be willing to move along with the evolving trends in digital public relations. “The real practitioners in public relations still have a vital role to play even in the current trends in terms of providing strategic directions for whatever is being done within the digital space,” Maduegbuna added.

Speaking in the same vein, President of the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and CEO of CMC Burson Marsteller, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya enjoined Nigerian public relations practitioners to put their works forward for International awards such as the prestigious SABRE Awards Africa, saying, “this is the first time organisers of the awards are focusing exclusively on rewarding creative public relations campaigns in Nigeria. We are Africa’s largest market, let us go out there and showcase our great works to the world.”

ACSIS-SCASI elects Cisse Kane, eight others into exco for 2016-2020

The African Civil Society on the Information Society (ACSIS) has elected a set of new nine executive officers for the next four years, the under leadership of Dr. Cisse Kane, reports ITRealms.

A press statement from ACSIS secretariat, the new executive committee was elected by accredited 175 members for 2016 through 2020 tenure.

According to the chairperson of the ACSIS 2016 Electoral Committee, and former president of ACSIS, Nana Delphine Mekounte, the electoral process which lasted for three days online enabled members across the African continent to exercise their civic rights.

She disclosed that the election saw the emergence of Dr. Cisse Kane (Senegal) as President, Mr. Remmy Nweke (Nigeria) as Vice President; Adjidjatou Barry Baud (Guinea) - Treasurer; Mr. Akinremi Peter Taiwo – Coordinator West Africa; Tijani Mahamat Adoum (Chad) - Coordinator Central Africa; Evelyn Namara (Uganda) - Coordinator Eastern Africa; Christminfa Gbenou Sagbohan (Benin) - Coordinator African Diaspora; Aicha Jeridi (Tunisia) - Coordinator Northern Africa; and Chenai Chair (Zimbabwe) - Coordinator Southern Africa.

Mekounte also commended the sincerity of purpose, patience and cooperation throughout the electoral process by members.

“Thank you for your choice of leaders for the next 4 years, this is a citizen's duty,” she asserted, advising any member who may be in doubt to revisit their online ballot link earlier shared to see for themselves how and records of the exercise.

As said by her, 175 voters were registered for the 2016 election, while the actual number of vote cast was 78, which amounts to 45 per cent participation. She noted that earlier, majority of voters had agreed that the single candidate positions should not be placed in competition, which the Electoral Committee endorsed.

Hence she explained that the Committee placed in contest the post of the Vice President and Treasurers, which had two and three candidates respectively.

She further said that for the post of Vice President, were Mr. Remmy Nweke and Mr. Michel Tchonang Linze, while the Treasurer position had Ms. Addjidja Tou Barry Baud, Mr. Ade Bada and Ms Sende Dora.

At the end, she said, Mr. Nweke was elected with 49 votes against 25 votes by Linze, just as Addjidja got 45 votes to emerge the Treasurer.

Recall that Africa Civil Society for the Information Society (ACSIS) was formed in June 2003, during the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, to promote inclusive information society in Africa.
