Why Jukuns endorsed Atiku - ITREALMS

The apex Jukun socio-political organization Jukuns Development Association of Nigeria (JDAN) and other groups such as Jukuns Leaders of Thoughts (JLT) as well as women and youth groups have resolved to support the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate Peter Obi in the 2019 Presidential election slated for February next year.

Briefing newsmen after an emergency meeting of the leaders of the Jukun nation in Lagos on Friday, JDAN National President Chief Bako Benjamin, said the endorsement followed “very wide consultation among our people.”

He said this is coming on the heels of what the Jukun nation has suffered in recent time, and the orgy of killings of thousands of innocent Jukuns in the hands of marauding herdsmen.

“We are bothered as a people and we have decided to take our destiny in our hands and make our stand concerning this very important election known to Nigerians and the rest of the world ahead of the coming polls,” Benjamin said.

He lamented that the Jukun people never had it tougher than they are presently going through in recent history.

He recounted how hundreds of his people were displaced, killed, and exiled from their farms and ancestral homes by marauding herdsmen, who also burnt down their victims’ farms without protection and support from the government.

According to him, the Jukun people are not happy that their homelands have been turned into a land flowing with blood of innocent farmers by marauding gun totting herdsmen. “Rather than sending words of sympathy, support and protection, soldiers were instead sent to shoot our youths who dare to defend themselves and their communities, arresting many unarmed youngsters and ignoring the murderous herdsmen who were provided cover while they made their escape with their guns.”

Benjamin said the Jukuns were filled with high hopes when President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office having being helped by our son Gen. TY Danjuma, but we soon regretted when he stabbed us in the back with betrayal.

He said all Jukuns will prefer to try Atiku in the coming election and “we would massively vote for him at the poll.”

Economic council endorses national road safety strategy

… As Nigeria loses 3% GDP to road crashes

The National Economic Council has endorsed the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy (NRSS), just as the nation lost three per cent of her Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to road traffic crashes, reports ITRealms.

Affirming this to ITRealms, the Corps Marshal, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, said in Lagos, weekend that strategy comprises having a National Road Safety Advisory Council (NaRSAC) to oversee the implementation of the NRSS under the Chairmanship of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

As said by Oyeyemi, the structure of the road safety management would include state governors as members in addition to members drawn from stakeholders while the office of the corps marshal would act as the secretary to the council.

He explained that the NRSS vision is to enthrone Nigeria as country where Road Traffic Crash (RTC) results in no death with a goal of reduction in road traffic crash fatality rate by 35 per cent by 2018.

The purpose, he said, is to widely adopt safe system approach to road safety management in Nigeria, develop and utilize standard templates to capture and report relevant traffic data, as well as implement design standards for all road types.

NRSS, Oyeyemi said, has the mandate to expand the Road Transport Safety Standardization Scheme (RTSSS) to cover all commercial vehicles that ply interstate roads, develop and implement awareness campaigns on proper road use in addition to providing supplementary medical equipment and emergency rescue ambulances, among others.

Further, he said, NRSS would work on setting standard National Road Safety Strategy target(s) by ensuring co-ordination between Federal, States and Local Governments in achieving Road Safety targets.

In driving the implementation of the NRSS, FRSC is expected to request for progress reports from relevant agencies, invite them to defend proposed activities and road safety efforts on a quarterly basis, evaluate of outcomes of National road safety initiatives, develop a funding plan for strategic initiatives and seek fund for the implementation of strategic initiatives, endorse disbursement of pre-approved funds for strategic initiatives and monitoring of funds disbursement for strategic initiatives, to name a few.

Wigwe, Amuka endorse Yudala retail movement

Ohanaeze Youth Council endorses Chekwas Okorie for president

The National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) have endorsed Chief Chekwas Okorie, who is running under the flagship of the United Progressives Party (UPP) for president.

OYC took its decision after they met on the 15th March 2015 in Enugu.

In a press statement made available to newsmen, and signed by Comrade Chukwudi Anachuna, it's national president, and Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, publicity secretary, OYC resolved that 

Ndigbo have been neglected and undermined by the ruling party, the main opposition party and many others, even to the extent that none of the presidential candidates have visited   Igboland for proper consultation and town hall meeting with the Igbo electorate as have been done in order parts of Nigeria. This simply means that the candidates are taking Ndigbo for a ride by not wanting to have a proper understanding with Ndigbo on our particular position and interest.

It also expressed dismay that after 16 years of PDP led government, Igboland have remained the most backward area in the country: "No visible achievement or development has been seen in the region, except big personal structures of these same Igbo politicians telling us to vote for one candidate or another. They are just pushing for their greed and self-interest while singing sycophantic praises for the candidates. The OYC therefore appeal to the Ndigbo in these parties to stop sacrificing the future and interest of Ndigbo at the altar of greed and personal ego".

The umbrella organisation, which unites all Igbo people across the globe also advised Ndigbo, especially the youths to participate actively in the coming general election: "They should get their PVCs, make sure they vote wisely, monitor and secure their votes properly. All these should be done under the ambit of the law".

The statement read in parts:"the NEC of OYC unanimously endorse Chief Chekwas Okorie, the candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) for the March 28, 2015 presidential general. We call on Ndigbo all over the globe to see Chief Chekwas Okorie as our own and the project of the Igbo person for Nigerian presidency as a clarion call to service and ideological support. The OYC NEC advised that Chekwas Okorie is a great, very wise and intellectually sound son of Igbo and would represent the aspirations of Ndigbo if he wins the presidency. Notwithstanding, United Progressive Party (UPP) is currently the only party in Nigeria that have presented a credible party manifesto as well as candidate manifesto that is very objective, transparent and touched the basic points that tend to define the proper existence of Nigeria".

"This manifesto by all standards will stand the test of time if given the mandate to be in power. We Igbo youths, from Southeast and South-South Geopolitical Areas of Nigeria will work tirelessly to actualize this noble project, raise the pride of Ndigbo and save our race from total extinction", it stated.

President Jonathan endorses Shola Taylor for Deputy Sec-Gen @ITU

The Federal Government of Nigeria has endorsed the candidacy of Mr. Shola Taylor for the post of Deputy Secretary-General at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), ITRealms can authoritatively report.

Affirming this development to ITRealms, the Communication Technology Minister for the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Omobola Johnson, through her aide, Mrs. Efem Nkanga reaffirmed this at the ongoing Plenipotentiary Conference of ITU in Busan, Korean.

ITRealms investigations revealed that Dr. Johnson made this policy statement by calling on all delegates to support Nigeria’s quest to serve as the Deputy Secretary General of the ITU, which has equally received endorsement of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. 

“President Jonathan has approved the presentation of Mr. Shola Taylor as Nigeria’s candidate for the post of Deputy Secretary General,” she said.

CommTech minister equally urged support of the delegates, saying that Nigeria has valuable experience to share, and the nation is imbibing best practices from other countries.

ITRealms recalls that Mr. Taylor is experienced in the operation of the ITU and has held several full-time and part-time positions within the Union;  having worked in the telecommunications industry in both developed and developing economies over decades.

Mr. Taylor is equally an adviser to the Nigeria's Minister of Communication Technology, on the World Telecommunication Development Conference.

ICANN endorses Name Collision Occurrence Management Framework

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has endorsed the Name Collision Occurrence Management Framework by the Board’s New Generic Top Level Domains (gTLD) Programme Committee (NGPC), reports ITRealms.

This is coming as ITRealms gathered that ICANN has introduced a special Internet Protocol (IP) address (127.0.53.53) to alert system administrators of potential issue.

The framework implementation requirements were developed with input from many sources including the ICANN community, a report published by JAS Global Advisors LLC, and advice from the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC).

Also, ITRealms gathered that the framework is designed to mitigate the impact of name collisions in the domain name system (DNS), which typically occur when fully qualified domain names conflict with similar domain names used in private networks. When this occurs, users can be taken to an unintended Web page or encounter an error message.

According to Akram Atallah, president of ICANN’s Global Domains Division, noted that to address this issue, the framework calls for registry operators to use a technique called “controlled interruption” to alert system administrators that there may be an issue in their network. Specifically, an IPv4 address – 127.0.53.53 – will appear in system logs, enabling a quick diagnosis and remediation.

“We now have a well-defined methodology for mitigating name collisions for delegated top-level domain names and a path forward for registries to unblock certain second-level domains in their list,” Atallah said, stressing these operational processes, which were developed in conjunction with the multistakeholder community, will help to ensure the security of the domain name system.

Atallah noted that ICANN will provide information to and work with the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) to consider whether policy work on developing a long-term plan to manage gTLD name collisions issues should be undertaken.

Meanwhile, ICANN as gathered by ITRealms, will be holding webinars to discuss details of the Name Collision Occurrence Management Framework and answer questions on 12 August 2014 – Session 1 will take place from 01:00-02:30 UTC and Session 2 take place from 15:00-16:30 UTC.
