The Governor made this declaration on Monday, March 23, 2026, while receiving a high-powered delegation from the NCC. The visit served as a pivotal moment for aligning state-level innovation with national broadband and digital economy targets.

The Young Women’s Christian Association of Nigeria (YWCA) has expressed concerns and agony over the recent senseless attacks and bloodbath that occurred in Plateau State at the weekend, describing it as sad and terrifying, reports ITRealms.

National President, YWCA, Lady Chikwue Ochiagha in her reaction, said that the worrisome situation now is that no day passes without news report of some killings by gunmen and destruction of communities in the country.

“It is also worrisome that there appear not to be known evidences of provocation for the unleashing of these attacks and killings. We are quick to also state herein that even if there be provocation of any sort, the offended should use legal means of obtaining justice within the ambit of the law of the land,” she said.

The group also noted that recent attacks in Plateau State resulted in the death of about 200 persons. This is one attack, too many.

As an NGO with peace building as one of our thematic issues she said, they unequivocally condemn these attacks, killings and all forms of violence in whatever name “whether religion and /or commerce.”

She insisted that it is absolutely unacceptable to Nigerians.

“As it were, a lot of women and young girls who we work for their empowerment and all round development are directly and indirectly affected. Some have become widows, suffering food crises, rendered homeless with education of the girls disrupted.

They called on the Federal Government to review the country’s security architecture in order to effectively secure the lives and property of Nigerians.

”This call is urgent more than ever before. There is need to strengthen and overhaul the security machinery of the nation to function proactively. The most vulnerable spots of these attacks and the states are known to make our security be on alert at such spots and prevent the attacks before they are unleashed. It is becoming hard to believe that the Federal Government agrees with the constitutional provision that security and welfare of citizens is the primary purpose of government. The press assurances by government of being on top of the situation must translate into visible practical actions,” YCWA said.

Easter: Plateau FRSC deploys 900 staff, warns against night travels

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau State would be deploying 900 personnel to man the roads during the forthcoming Easter celebration, according to the Sector Commander, Patricia Emeordi, reports ITRealms.

As said by her, the Command has stationed eight patrol vehicles and two ambulances for emergencies on the roads.

She also advised road users to obey traffic rules and regulations, especially in the area of over loading of vehicles with goods and passengers, insisting that they should avoid night journeys and eschew over speeding during the period.

Speaking in an interview with journalists in Jos, the FRSC Commander, described as criminal the rejection of auto crash victims by Hospitals.

Emeordi said, “For this Easter celebrations, we are deploying over 500 regular Staff and 600 special Marshals on the roads in Plateau State. We have stationed eight patrol vehicles and two ambulances. 

“People should plan their journeys to avoid anxiety which could ultimately lead to over speeding, they should avoid driving against traffic. Road users should also cooperate with traffic officers who are on the roads for the good of everyone.

“Even though we preach Easter-free crashes, people are free to call the national toll free line 122. If there is an issue about traffic in Plateau State, the public are free to call the following Operation Numbers: 08077690401 and 08077690510.

“It is a criminal offence for any Hospital to reject victims of road crashes. Victims of auto crashes do not need medical reports before treatment. Any Hospital which rejects victims of road accidents risk prosecution. I wish all road users and pedestrians, Happy Easter celebrations free of road crashes.”

Plateau State to subsidize Set-Top Boxes for citizens

The Plateau State Government is to subsidize the cost of Set-Top Boxes for its citizens as the Digital Switch Over (DSO) in broadcasting so as to spread adoption from the state capital, Jos, to the entire state, reports ITRealms.

Governor Simon Lalong disclosed this subsidy plan in Jos on Tuesday while responding to a request to that effect by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who paid him a courtesy visit along with members of the Inter-Ministerial Task Force on DSO.

He also said the state is prepared to take full advantage of the DSO for the benefit of the citizenry.

“On our part, we are taking this seriously and we have advised the Commissioner for Information to also start processing for the advantage of the citizenry here on the Plateau, because even if they cannot afford (to acquire the boxes), we are preparing to subsidize for them,’’ the Governor said.

He described the pilot launch of the DSO in Jos as a welcome development, coming at a time when peace has been restored in the state.

Earlier, the Minister thanked the state government for its support for the DSO programme and expressed satisfaction with the progress so far recorded since the launch of the pilot phase on 30 April 2016.

“After one month, we have decided to come back and see how far and how well and I am happy to report to Your Excellency that we are very satisfied with the progress that has been made so far,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed said the stakeholders would continue to improve on the distribution and activation of the Set-Top Boxes, while also working to correct any lapses that may occur.

He urged the state government to take full advantage of the DSO by assisting the citizens to acquire the boxes, without which they cannot enjoy the benefits of the DSO.

“Given also the net benefit that the state will derive from this process, because part of the advantages of the Digital Switch Over is interaction and the government can put on the platforms information and enlightenment programmes on its policies and programmes, we think it will also be in the interest of government to assist citizens to acquire these Set-Top Boxes which will further help in deepening democracy and will further help in bringing governance nearer to the people,” he said.

As part of pilot phase, the Federal Government has provided 200,000 Set-Top Boxes free of charge for the residents of Jos.
