Osakwe gave this thumb up in his remarks at the maiden award and civic centre fundraising held Saturday at the Welcome Centre Hotels, International Airport Road, Lagos, hosted by the ADU Lagos led by its chairman, Mr. Remmy Nweke, who also is the lead representative alongside Chief Benard Chidebe to AASDU Lagos.

Victor Nwakasi, also enjoined ADU Lagos members to support the current leadership of their town because they mean well from what he saw, especially on the idea of N100m civic centre so that it will come to fruition.
Equally speaking, Chief Okwuosa and Forwarder Ezenga, respectively, applauded ADU Lagos leadership, asserting that they were not disappointed with the vision and urged all and sundry to ensure they contribute their quota in realization of the N100m civic centre in Lagos, so that they support their home town adequately.
AASDU President, Chief Osakwe was later honoured by the chairman, ADU Lagos, Mr. Remmy Nweke, as friend of the town, for his leadership support and provision of the enabling environment for Awba-Ofemili community in Lagos to optimize available portentials so far and called for more cooperation between towns and AASDU.
Earlier, Mr. Nweke in his welcome address, noted that the N100m multi-purpose civic centre is important and strategic, as “it marks the beginning of a journey to a stronger socio economic base for our dear Union in Lagos” just as he beckoned on essence of building institutions than individuals for the town to thrive.
ADU Lagos, he said, conceived the idea of a multipurpose civic center, to serve as a focal point for the community gathering with facilities for indoor sporting events, theaters, concerts and shopping centre.
“Specifically, the ADU Lagos Civic Centre building is estimated to cost about N100m for completion; which outside acting as ADU Lagos meeting point, will be an income generating venture through offer of services to the public by renting out its halls for events when completed.
“ADU members wishing to use the hall will benefit from a special discount package,” he assured, and urged guests for support to achieve this goal, “please donate generously and you’ll be richly blessed. God loves a cheerful giver.”
Even as a given percentage of the fund raised will be set aside for women empowerment, especially for widows in the town and specifically those who may have links with ADU Lagos.
He also noted that Awba-Ofemili indigenes have been in Lagos for over 40 years and deserved to have a meeting point of their own, saying again that what the town needs urgently is not necessarily strong men or women, but strong institutions in Awba-Ofemili to prosper.

Fayemi approves monthly N100m to clear workers' arrears - ITREALMS
Demonstrating commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners in Ekiti State, the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has approved monthly release of N100 million naira to clear accumulated gratuities of retired workers in the state, reports ITREALMS.
The Governor, ITREALMS gathered, had last month approved a hundred per cent increase in monthly gratuity payment from N10 million to N20 million.
However, taking into consideration the current plight of many retired workers, who could not access their gratuity several years after their retirement owing to the paltry amount for gratuity payment, Governor Fayemi has directed the Ministry of Finance to further increase the monthly gratuity payment to N100 million per month. This was the amount paid per month during his first term.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, the directive takes immediate effect, pending the time the state government would be able to find a creative approach to resolve the huge outstanding gratuity obligations of the state.
The Governor believes the increment will go a long way in ameliorating the plight of the state’s pensioners.
In a related development, Governor Fayemi has also approved the payment of severance allowance and outstanding salaries of 19 former members of the Ekiti State House of Assemblies and their aides who were denied their entitlement by the immediate past administration of Mr Ayodele Fayose.
Governor Fayemi believes it is unjust to deny workers their wages, saying that his administration will ensure that workers and pensioners get their entitlements as and when due.

Illegal detention of journalist: Lagos NUJ petitions IGP Arase, demands N100m compensation
The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)
has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase over
the detention of one its members, Yomi Olomofe, demanding damages to the
tune of N100m, reports ITRealms.
Olomofe, who had been having a running battle with the Nigeria
Customs Service was invited to the police office in Panti, Lagos, for
clarification on the matter, but rather than being questioned on the purpose of
the visit, was on Thursday detained.
Olomofe, who doubles as the editorial board chairman of Badagry
Prime News, was later moved to the Alagbon command in Ikoyi area of the state.
A copy of the petition made available to ITRealms by the union’s
lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, the NUJ and Olomofe are seeking for a public apology, assurance of Olomofe’s safety, N100
million compensation for
breach of fundamental rights.
In the said petition, NUJ said that Olomofe has, again, been
admitted to the hospital for urgent medical attention and that the shock of his
latest harassment has caused him a fresh psychological breakdown and emotional
distress, as he has been told by his doctors that he has relapsed into a state
of depression with his blood pressure alarmingly high.
“The Nigeria Police Force, under your watch, has done nothing to
bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act of attempted murder to justice for
nine (9) months is a monumental scandal. But that our client could be framed up
and the Police Force, who ought to be his “friend", could be a willing
ally or tool of persecution in the hands of those who are still hell-bent on
eliminating our client, is worse than a scandal. It is an unmitigated tragedy
of policing and law-enforcement in Nigeria.
“Our position is that although the Police is vested with powers of
arrest and detention under the Police Act, Criminal Procedure Act, the
Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2011, and the Constitution of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, there is no lawful excuse or
justification for the arrest and detention of our client, his release from
Police custody within twenty-four (24) hours in seeming compliance with the
provision of Section 35 of the Constitution, notwithstanding. Our client's
rights to the dignity of the human person and personal liberty, guaranteed by
Sections 34 and 35 of the Constitution, have been violated. And his right to
freedom of expression and the press under Section 39 of the same Constitution,
as a practicing journalist, who is being cowed, intimidated and harassed [in
order to compel him into self-censorship], is implicated.
“In the circumstances, we hereby request, that the Nigeria Police
Force refrain from further violating the rights of our client, at the instance
of his assailants and tormentors, as described above.
“Now that the Nigeria Police Force has not only refused to
investigate the complaint of our client, with a view to bringing those who
intended and attempted to murder him to justice, but also has joined in the
abuse of our client's fundamental human rights, the Nigeria Police Force and
the Inspector-General of Police should assure our client, and his family of
their continued safety.
“The Nigeria Police Force should investigate the dormant complaint
of our client, and bring his assailants, who are still threatening his life, to
justice.
“For the aforementioned violation of his rights, the Nigeria Police
Force should pay the sum of N100 Million Damages to our client, within
twenty-one [21] days of delivery of this petition; and
“That the Inspector-General of Police, on behalf of the Nigeria
Police Force, should, within twenty-one [21] days of delivery of this petition,
tender a public apology to our client, and the apology should be published in three
(3) national newspapers (dailies), for the aforesaid violation of our client's
fundamental rights.
“If the Nigeria Police
Force refuses, neglects or fails to comply with the
demands made herein, within twenty-one [21] days of delivery of this letter, we
shall not hesitate to institute a legal action against the Nigeria Police Force
and your good self to secure the enforcement of the fundamental rights of our
client, in a court of law with requisite jurisdiction”, the petition reads.
