RSUTH CMD flags off basic, advanced cardiovascular life support training for healthcare staff - ITREALMS

The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has officially launched a specialized training program in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) to strengthen emergency response capabilities and enhance clinical competencies across its medical workforce, reports ITREALMS.

The capacity-building initiative was formally flagged off by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of RSUTH, Professor Chizindu Dike Alikor, who underscored the critical need for healthcare workers to possess the requisite skills, practical expertise, and confidence required to handle life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies.

Speaking at the opening session, Professor Alikor emphasized that prompt and precise intervention remains the determining factor in patient survival during acute cardiovascular events.

"The training is designed to sharpen participants’ decision-making skills and deliver timely clinical interventions, particularly in high-pressure emergency situations where every second counts toward saving a life," Alikor stated.

He further disclosed that the initial phase of the program has kicked off with 50 participants, with subsequent phases structured to cover additional medical personnel to ensure hospital-wide operational readiness.

The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, served as the Special Guest of Honour and performed the official flag-off ceremony.

The launch event drew significant attendance from senior consultants, resident doctors, and healthcare practitioners across Rivers State, highlighting a collective institutional focus on continuous professional development and advanced emergency care standards.

Under the leadership of Professor Alikor, the RSUTH management continues to prioritize clinical capacity building, operational preparedness, and the delivery of safe, quality healthcare services to the public.
