Dangote refinery expands free fuel delivery to Kano, Imo, and more states to ease consumer burden - ITREALMS

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has widened the scope of its free petroleum product delivery initiative to include Kano, Imo, Anambra, and Nasarawa States, a strategic move aimed at cutting distribution expenses for independent petroleum marketers and lowering pump prices for consumers, reports ITREALMS.

The initiative initially launched with deliveries covering Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Abuja, and Delta States. It is engineered to remove the heavy financial burden of transporting petroleum products over long distances from the refinery to various parts of the country. By absorbing these delivery overheads, the refinery eliminates a critical cost component traditionally built into the downstream distribution chain.

Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations, Oil & Gas, WAEP and Fertiliser, Fatima Aliko Dangote, emphasized that the true value of domestic refining must reach ordinary citizens. She noted that by covering delivery costs to customers, the company is removing significant distribution barriers and clearing the path for those savings to reach consumers, ultimately creating more competitive pump prices nationwide.

The expansion has drawn strong commendation from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN). National Publicity Secretary and Public Relations Officer of IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike, stated that the intervention addresses historical challenges where marketers' funds remained tied up for weeks awaiting product loading and transport. According to Ukadike, the streamlined delivery model drastically improves cash flow, reduces exposure to road risks, and enables independent operators to run their businesses far more efficiently.

Ukadike added that because transportation costs fundamentally dictate retail pricing, minimizing haulage overhead gives marketers greater leeway to adjust pump prices downward. He urged the refinery management to extend the program to additional regions, particularly northern states, praising the development as a shining example of the benefits of competition and deregulation in Nigeria's downstream sector.

Operating with a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to reshape the domestic market by pairing high-volume production with innovative supply chain logistics, offering motorists and households tangible relief at the pump.
