Leading telecommunications firm MTN Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to closing the gender gap in the technology sector by announcing its headline support for the 2026 International Girls in ICT Day, reports ITREALMS.

The campaign, organized by eBusiness Life Communication Limited, is set for June 25, 2026, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel. This year's event follows the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) mandate to encourage young women to pursue careers in a field historically dominated by men. The 2026 theme is “AI For Development: Girls Shaping The Digital Future.”

Joining MTN in this critical human capacity initiative is a powerful alliance of infrastructure and service providers:

According to Mrs. Ufuoma Emuophedaro, CEO of eBusiness Life Communication and convener of the event, the initiative is a response to the unconscious relegation of women in technical fields.

“We need to equip girls with transferable, lifelong skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and digital awareness,” Emuophedaro stated. “Having role models is critical, especially in fields where the presence of women is currently sparse.”

She urged other forward-looking organizations to join the mission of helping young girls strategically position themselves for the careers of the future.

The ultimate goal of the campaign, launched via ITU Resolution 70, is to empower students to pursue ICT career paths without gender bias. This year's summit will be attended by top-tier executives from both the government and private sectors.
