The Lagos State Advocacy Team (SAT) of the AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) Malaria (ATM) Networks, has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chairman Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Adetoun Bolanle to intimate on the activities of the organisation to strengthen the primary health centres, reports ITREALMS.

The ATM team lead, Mrs Ifelunwa Aipoh emphasized the need to briefed the vice chairman who also is the Supervisory Councilor for Health on the organisations activities in the communities which is aimed in identifying issues at the health care centres by the Community Based Organisations (CBOs), reaching out to stakeholders in the community to resolve such, while the unreserved issues are escalated to the local government or to the state for appropriate intervention.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Mallam Mele Kyari, have reviewed the decision of the NNPC Ltd. to domicile a significant portion of its revenues and other banking services with the CBN, reports ITREALMS.

Following their meeting in Abuja on Thursday, February 8, 2024, the CBN and NNPC Ltd Chiefs noted the value created by the decision for all parties, especially in providing the NNPC Ltd. with an improved platform for managing its cash holding obligor limits in commercial banks set by the Board of Directors.

The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has advanced collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to strengthen anti-corruption efforts, reports ITREALMS.

Telecommunications regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said it remains committed to its regulatory role of continually implementing requisite reforms to strengthen the communications sector in Nigeria.

The Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management at the NCC, Adeleke Adewolu, stated this while addressing stakeholders at the combined second and third quarters 2023 meeting of the Industry Working Groups (IWG) on multiple taxation and regulations in the telecoms sector.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commenced the process of conducting a study to assess the current level of competition in the colocation and infrastructure sharing (CIS) segment of the Nigerian telecommunications sector. Seventy-eight licensees are currently operating in that market segment.

The study is to enable the Commission to have insightful and evidenced-based facts to glean the dynamics at play and ensure the continuous growth of the CIS segment of the telecom market. The NCC takes this issue as priority in view of the critical role played by the colocation and infrastructure sharing segment of the telecom ecosystem in ensuring robust services.

Akande: Bindawa’s expertise'll strengthen NCC board - ITREALMS

The chairman, governing board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Adeolu Akande has described the addition of Prof. Mansur Bindawa to the board as having the expertise to strengthen the activities of the commission leadership, reports ITREALMS.

Akande, who led Bindawa and other board members of the Commission to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, for the inauguration of the latest board member as a non-executive commissioner at NCC, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for deliberately “fortifying the Commission with intellectuals ready to work together for the advancement of the technological ecosystem.”

NITDA, Microsoft sign MoU to strengthen ICT innovation

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Microsoft Nigeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen ICT Innovation and adoption in Nigeria, reports ITRealms.

The partnership, ITRealms gathered will see both NITDA and Microsoft collaborate in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development and innovation in the country, particularly in the areas of cloud policies, data protection and privacy laws and data classification frameworks.

ITRealms recalls that NITDA mandate is to create a framework for the planning, research, development, standardization, application, coordination, monitoring, evaluation and regulation of Information Technology practices in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government priorities, ITRealms gathered, include anti-corruption drive, security, private sector led economic growth and job creation, youth training and skills development. Technology will be at the heart of driving and building a digital economy which will bring these priorities to fruition.

NITDA’s Director-General, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim, said that signing ceremony that they were delighted to collaborate with Microsoft; asserting that as regulators, “our mandate is to create the right policies that foster innovation and help build a robust digital economy. Nigeria is a forward-thinking economy and one which is ready to compete in the 4^th industrial revolution by having policies which drive growth and encourage investments.”

He further added ‘This is a positive move towards digitalization of government processes and provides a tremendous opportunity to scale up citizen’s access to services and concurrently improve the quality of services’

Also reiterating on the collaboration, General Manager Microsoft Nigeria, Akin Banuso expressed their excitement to collaborate with NITDA.

“Microsoft is committed to providing technology you can trust; We have been actively involved in discussions with governments around the world to digitally transform are also frequently asked by other governments to identify best practices for moving to the cloud; we are honoured to be able to work with the Nigerian government on this framework.," he said.

Banuso also said that this collaboration aims to foster detailed discussions of recent regulatory and policy development, including global best practices, to create cloud regulatory frameworks appropriate for driving innovation and improving how the public sector operates and delivers citizen services.

ITRealms further gathered that NITDA and Microsoft will set up a joint working group for the collaboration.

INTERPOL, Kaspersky enter deal to strengthen threat intelligence exchange

The Kaspersky Lab has reiterated commitment to global collaboration in the fight against cybercrime by signing a threat intelligence sharing agreement with INTERPOL, reports ITRealms.

The legal framework, ITRealms gathered has been designed to facilitate and develop cooperation between Kaspersky Lab and INTERPOL by sharing threat intelligence data on the latest cybercriminal activities, wherever they appear.

ITRealms reports that with cyber threats often borderless in nature, Kaspersky Lab, a leading proponent of the importance of industry collaboration, says its experts have regularly cooperated with INTERPOL to share fresh cyberthreat discoveries with police in its member countries.

For example, Kaspersky Lab participated in a groundbreaking INTERPOL-led cybercrime operation that identified nearly 9,000 botnet command and control (C2) servers and hundreds of compromised websites, including government portals, across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.

Equally, ITRealms  reports that Kaspersky Lab had previously assisted in a global operation coordinated by the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore to disrupt the Simda criminal botnet – a network of over 770,000 infected PCs around the world.

Operation Kpochapu: Police, Army, Navy, NDLEA, SSS, FRSC unite against criminality in Anambra State

The service commanders in Anambra State, have vowed to continue to strengthen the unity among them in the fight against crime and criminality in the state, reports ITRealms.

These commanders include the Police, Army, Navy, NDLEA, SSS, Civil Defense and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

They maintained it is the only way to repel external aggression and maintain internal peace.

Making this known during a courtesy visit to Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano at the Governor’s lodge Amawbia, the spokesperson of the team and State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hassan Karma, applauded the Governor for the great support he has extended to all the law enforcement agencies in the state.

Karma also commended him for the fatherly role he plays in emphasizing unity amongst them through the formation of "Operation Kpochapu" a joint security task force involving all the national security agencies operating in the state and which has yielded great results.

He assured the Governor that the team spirit that has been ignited would be sustained and the fight against crime in the state would be sustained also.

Receiving an award of excellence presented to him by the service commanders, the Governor acknowledged their contributions and adjudged them the best, just as he enjoined them to be ready for the next phase of operation that will involve cracking crimes before they are committed.

Transparency: FMF strengthens mechanism to enhance FAAC

The Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF) has disclosed plans to strengthen and increase the capacity of the sub-Committee on Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), reports ITRealms.

According to sources from the Ministry, the plan is sequel to the approval at the last FAAC meeting that three independent and experienced financial analysts to work on the process of reconciliation, be appointed.

The Ministry explained that the post-mortem Sub-Committee is to enhance accountability, improve reconciliations and ensure transparent process in respect of all the revenues accruable to the Federation Account.

The sub-committee is saddled with the responsibility of examining the books of accounts of all revenue agencies including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIIRS), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Customs Service, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and  the Ministry of Mines and Steel. It is expected to report deficiencies observed to the Federation Account Committee and recommend the way forward.

Though the un-reconciled differences are no longer there, with the increased oversight of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the transparency of the NNPC, it will be easy for the sub-committee to achieve better results. 

The committee, which reports to the Federation Account on a monthly basis, was originally set up to encourage revenue reconciliation and block leakages through the use of technology.

The NNPC had rejected the findings of the audit report submitted recently to the National Assembly by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation, stating that the audit query it raised over the non-remittance of N3.235 trillion to the Federation Account was erroneous, insisting that its balance to the federation account remains N326 billion, as at the time of filing the audit report.
