The Managing Director of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), Muhammed Rudman, has underscored the urgent need for Nigeria to strengthen its local traffic exchange ecosystem, describing it as a strategic national imperative for speed, security, and digital economic expansion.

Speaking during a presentation at the African Tech Alliance (AfriTECH) Forum on Thursday last week, Rudman explained that local traffic exchange, where ISPs, content providers, and networks exchange data within Nigeria rather than routing it through international paths, remains the backbone of a modern, efficient internet economy.

The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), now has new National Executive Council (NEC) led by Mr. Tony Izuagbe Emoekpere as president and Mr. Muhammed Rudman as vice president, reports ITREALMS.

Rudman is also the chief executive officer of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) and doubled as the current president, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), the managers of .NG country code domain.

The duo of the chief executive officer, InternetExchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) Mr. Muhammed Rudman and President, Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), Mr. Destiny Amana have commended the management of DigitalSENSE Africa Media, for the consistency in providing Internet stakeholders in Nigeria the platform to evolve and align with the global eco-system, describing them as ‘fore-bearers’ of news on IG4D, reports ITRealms.

Speaking at the 9^th edition of the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) and Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable, as part of the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum (NDSF) series, at the Cooperative Hall, Oshodi-Isolo Secretariat, Oshodi-Lagos, Messrs Rudman and Amana applauded DigitalSENSE Africa Media, a certified At-Large Structure (ALS) at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), for ensuring Nigerian Internet stakeholders are readily represented and kept abreast of issues on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D).

For NIG President, Amana, Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum (NDSF) series has been an expose for a lot of Nigerian Internet stakeholders, especially the students, youth and women as well as community-based organisation (CBO).

He urged corporate Nigeria in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to join hands with DigitalSENSE Africa Media alongside the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in bringing the benefits of the Internet and its related governance to Nigeria annually through the series.

Mr. Rudman, who doubled as the chairman of the 2018 Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum (NDSF) series, applauded the management of DigitalSENSE for their consistency in things that has to do with the Internet stakeholders in Nigeria.

“… Particularly in the organisation of the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) and Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable whose sole purpose is for enlightening of the populace, especially the students, youth and women on topical issues relating to the importance of Internet and its governance as the Internet  eco-system evolves,” he said.

The evolution, he also said, has reached a peak for Internet Protocol version Six (IPv6) to take the centre stage, “hence DigitalSENSE efforts in using its Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable to galvanise stakeholders and industry experts did not come as a surprise to me, thus is worthy of  an applause and commendation.”

Rudman pointed out that for them at IXPN and lately the IPv6 Council Nigeria, whose CEO and chairman respectively he is, they hold these efforts of DigitalSENSE Africa Media in high esteem and will continue to give utmost support to them as far as IPv6 advocacy is concerned.

“This is to encourage them, to continue to promote, enlighten and act as fore-bearers of good news for such cause(s).

On the main theme of this year for the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum series: Internet Governance, Sustaining Development; it is very important that nowadays, we must relate our activities to the sustainability of the developmental activities in our areas, no matter how small. After all, there is need to keep this sector viable  with our various contributions so as to enrich whatever we have as laws governing Internet activities in the country alongside the evolving eco-system.

“Last month, May 25^th to be precise, we saw the beginning of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe. Hence, I was not surprised that DigitalSENSE team has session on this vis-à-vis with the Internet Protocol version Six (IPv6) in commemoration of the World IPv6 Day. This shows pro-activeness of the management and staff of DigitalSENSE Africa Media when it comes to issues bordering on Internet Governance for Development,” Rudman said.

Rudman, IXPN boss to preside DigitalSENSE forum 2018

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Internet eXchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), Mr. Muhammed Rudman, would early next month, June, preside over the annual 2018 edition of Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum (NDSF) series on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) and Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable, reports ITRealms.

Confirming this to ITRealms at the weekend, the convener of NDSF Series and Executive Director, Operations at DigitalSENSE Africa (DSA) Media Group, Mrs. Nkemdilim Nweke, disclosed in Lagos, that this year’s theme is on ‘Internet Governance, Sustaining Development.’

She disclosed that the 2018 NDSF series slated for Wednesday, June 6, would see the morning session focusing on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) and afternoon session on the Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable, at the Cooperative Hall, Oshodi-Isolo Secretariat, Oshodi-Lagos.

Mrs Nweke pointed out that Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum series which is on its 9th year has remained a distinguished annual rallying point for Internet stakeholders in the country with particular interest on students, youth, women and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs).

This year, she said would have Mr. Rudman, a veteran Information Technology (IT) professional with over 18-year extensive experience and pioneer Chief Executive Officer, Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), presiding NDSF.

She noted that Mr. Rudman, is the chairman of IPv6 Council Nigeria and equally serving on the Board of Nigerian Internet Registration Association, the .ng  ccTLD custodians, as the Vice President as well as  the Chairman, Communication and Publicity Committee, in addition to being a member of the National Broadband Council tasked with the evaluation, review and monitoring of the National Broadband Plan, among others.

Mrs Nweke recalls that NDSF series, is hosted by DigitalSENSE Africa (DSA) Media, an At-Large Structure certified by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Nigeria Internet Group, Internet Society, Nigeria chapter and IPv6 Council Nigeria, as well as the Africa Civil Society on the Information Society (ACSIS), to name a few.

Akano, Olaitan to join Rudman @ 2016 Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum on Internet Governance

The trio of Chief Executive Officers of New Horizons, Crafts Village Nigeria and Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), Messs Tim Akano, Ogunbekun Olaitan and Mohammed Rudman respectively, have confirmed their participation at the 2016 Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum (NDSF) on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) and Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable thrill participants, reports ITRealms.

The Executive Director, Operations, DigitalSENSE Africa Media, Mrs Nkemdilim Nweke revealed this at the weekend, saying that the aforementioned trio not only confirmed participation but have developed strategies to delight participants in-line with the theme of this year’s forum on IG4D and Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable, which is ‘Internet Governance: Creating Opportunities for All Nigerians’ on Day 1 on Thursday June 2, 2016, and ‘Creating Opportunities for Nigerians with IPv6’ on Friday, June 3, 2016.

She also said that the 8^th edition of the two-day forum holding at the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), former NITEL Training School, Cappa-Oshodi in Lagos, would have the National President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Prof. Sola Aderounmu, presiding over this year’s august assemblage in June.

Mrs. Nweke noted that DigitalSENSE Africa Media, an At-Large Structure (ALS) certified by the global internet coordinating body, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), uses this forum as a rallying point to educate Nigerians on issues of relevant with regards to Internet Governance both locally and internationally.

She equally said that Mr. Akano, the CEO of New Horizons would be coming to the forum to share information on digital jobs and how Nigerians could leverage on it, just as Mr. Olaitan of Craft Village, the No. 1 customised greeting card and fashion crafts company, would demonstrate best practices on how to create and maintain an online stores, while Mr. Rudman of IXPN, would be offering insight to the global update on growing Internet Protocol version Six (IPv6) in commemoration of the World IPv6 Day 2016.

IXPN, ICTForum plans reduction of bandwidth for Nigeria higher institutions

The Nigerian ICT Forum of Partnership Institutions Ltd/Gte is collaborating with the Internet eXchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN),  towards enabling inter-network connections between Higher Education Institutions in Nigeria and reducing their present cost of internet bandwidth.

This collaboration, consummated on April 20, this year through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), also seeks to establish the Research and Education Network (REN) clusters.

The managing director of the IXPN, Mr. Muhammed Rudman, who made these disclosures, noted that REN would serve as a vehicle for the interconnection of all the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) via ICT in order to promote content development and sharing amongst the member institutions.

The Convenor, Nigeria ICT Forum, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim said that this is in line with the  Forum’s mission which focuses on developing internal capacity for HEIs and cultivating a favourable policy environment that aids development..

Additionally, Nigerian ICT Forum, he said, seeks to utilize, sustain and advance  ICT networks, services and shared resources that are owned by the HEIs themselves..

This, he said, includes aggregation of their bandwidth, thus driving the formation of a National Research and Education Network (NREN) to the letter.

Equally, Mr. Rudman, said the MOU vested IXPN with the responsibility of providing a national core infrastructure that facilitates internet operations in Nigeria, as well as localizing traffic and reducing local routing cost.

He outlined some of the advantages of the collaboration to include the formation of clusters within the next two years in at least six geo-political zones in the country; promote content development in Nigerian Higher Education Institutions; provide lower cost of bandwidth for Higher Education Institutions; conduct training and campaign awareness on the need for  Research and Education Network (RENs); and mobilize support and resources towards achieving the above goals.

Mr. Rudman explained that some of the benefits of the collaboration is to synergise our efforts towards building sustainable clusters of RENs across the country.

“The collaboration will go a long way in promoting content development and sharing, thus accelerating the development of the educational sector as well as boosting the economy at large,” he asserted.
