CSOs, Nigerians urge President Buhari to sign digital rights bill - ITREALMS

A group of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and digital rights stakeholders, have urged the President, Muhammadu Buhari to sign the digital rights bill, sent to his office on Tuesday, FEbruary 5, this year, reports ITREALMS

The National Assembly, ITREALMS recalled had on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, transmitted the Digital Rights and Freedom Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent. The Bill, which had been in Parliament since 2016, was passed by both chambers of the Parliament in 2018.

Paradigm Initiative, a social enterprise that has led the advocacy campaign in support of the bill, commended the National Assembly and urged President Buhari to immediately sign the Bill into law. This is according to a statement signed by its Communications Officer, Sodiq Alabi.

According to ‘Gbenga Sesan, Paradigm Initiative Executive Director, “We are happy the Digital Rights and Freedom Bill has now been transmitted to President Buhari. Mr President now has a unique opportunity to position Nigeria as a leader in rights-respecting laws in Africa by signing the Bill into law.”

Yemi Adamolekun, the Executive Director of Enough Is Enough Nigeria, said, “It is significant that the gesture is happening on a day globally celebrated as the Safer Internet Day. There is now global attention on Nigeria to finish the important work it started by signing the Bill into law.”

The Africa Regional Coordinator of Web Foundation, Nnenna Nwakanma also added, “As the World Wide Web turns 30, Nigerians can not wait any longer for digital rights, freedoms and opportunities. The President's Assent is urgently needed to secure fundamental rights, to support a stronger digital economy, and to build a more secure internet.”

The President will have 30 days from the day it receives the communication from the National Assembly to assent to the Bill.

Speaking on the development, Paradigm Initiative’s Digital Rights Program Manager, Boye Adegoke said, “To its credit, the Muhammadu Buhari administration has signed some landmark Bills such as the Not too young to run Bill and the Disability Bill.”

“If passed, the Digital Rights and Freedom Bill will add to what appears to be a forward-looking disposition of the administration to policy making. What President Muhammadu Buhari does with the Bill will go a long way to define the administration’s disposition towards technology and its viability in improving the economic base of Nigeria,” Adegoke said.

A digital rights advocate and lawyer, Tomiwa Ilori said, "The bill is a potpourri of protected freedoms in the digital age. Nigeria will be at the cusp of history for being the first country to pass such comprehensive law with respect to securing human rights for the future. We have a golden opportunity of resetting digital policy across the board for human rights, we should take it."

The unravelling of President Buhari - ITREALMS

One thing supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari can’t deny is that many of those who oppose him today, almost three and half years after he was sworn in as the fourth president of the Fourth Republic, rooted for him 2015. Many of them are not politicians; they are not angry because Presdient Buhari has blocked their illegal sources of wealth; and they are not people who have cases with anti-corruption agencies. I am one of them.

For this category of Nigerians, it was their belief in Nigeria and hope for an inclusive country and new ways of doing things that made them take that chance. After the Jonathan debacle, very few Nigerians imagined that the country could sink lower in terms of its leader’s capacity to understand and confront its problems. Expectations were high. Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had made promises.

During the campaign, Candidate Buhari, without prompting, promised to declare his asset publicly on his first day in office and we believed him. The APC promised to address the vexed issue of national unity and integration and we trusted them. Four months after, journalists were still debating with Garba Shehu, the president’s Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, on the meaning of public declaration of asset.

It was in faraway Ghana, in September 2015, that President Buhari told curious journalists: “I have declared my assets and all that I have four times, and you (the media) have the right to go and demand for my declaration. Instead, I am being harassed.” I am sure if the president had made his asset declaration public, as he promised during his campaign, journalists would have saved him the harassment and embarrassment.

In July 2013, my colleague, Godwin Onyeacholem, and I, wrote a piece titled “2015: Why Buhari Matters.” In it, we argued that Mr. Buhari was perhaps the only politician who could defeat former president, Goodluck Jonathan. In another article in May 2015 titled, “President Buhari: Dead end or the rebirth of a nation?” I argued, enthusiastically, that under Mr. Buhari, Nigerians didn’t expect it to be business as usual and that notwithstanding his foibles—“alleged provincialism and antecedent as a military dictator”—since corruption remains one of Nigeria’s biggest problems, perhaps, “President Buhari, ‘Mr. Anti-corruption’ can deal with corruption and get the Nigerian state to function.”

That has turned out not to be the case. As we have seen, President Buhari’s foibles are not superficial. They are ingrained. On the issue of corruption, I will allow Senator Shehu Sani speak on Mr. Buhari’s anti-corruption war. A preeminent party man, Senator Sani was in the APC until a few weeks ago when a combination of intrigues and highhandedness forced him to resign and join another party, the People’s Redemption Party (PRP). According to Senator Sani, “When it comes to fighting corruption in the National Assembly and the Judiciary and in the larger Nigerian sectors, the President uses insecticide, but when it comes to fighting corruption within the Presidency, they use deodorants.”

But, as we have noticed, fighting corruption should be the least of our concern under a president who seems to make a mockery of the very essence of our survival as a nation. The clear and present danger in Nigeria today is the existential crisis confronting it. Not since the civil war have Nigerians questioned their citizenship the way they have done in the last three and half years, thanks to a president whose philosophy and politics of exclusion and resentment, of “we vs them,” of “97 and 5 percent,” is redefining what it means to be a Nigerian.

President Buhari has foreclosed the prospect of any kind of meaningful conversation on Nigeria and its existential crisis. It will be an egregious folly to allow this indifference to go on for four more years. If Mr. Buhari wasn’t sworn in on May 29, 2015, he would have remained “the best president Nigeria never had.” Now that we have watched him painfully flounder, not knowing exactly what to do and squandering the goodwill of a nation in search of direction, it would be catastrophic to reward him with another four years.

The 2019 election, therefore, will either be about enabling a tribesman or finding a patriotic alternative. As a people, we should be interested in President Buhari’s capacity—his ability to understand what the country needs—to steer the Nigerian state for four more years as he seeks a second term in the February 2019 general elections.

President Buhari may have good intentions, if you believe those around him. But again, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. For a nation in a hurry, President Buhari’s tardiness goes beyond the pale. It took him six months to appoint some of the same people he campaigned with, as ministers, creating uncertainty and imperiling the economy in the process. The security situation gets worse by the day and you scarcely hear any coherent response from the president.

It seems Mr. Buhari hardly knows what is happening around him. A few months ago, at the height of the murderous herdsmen/farmers crisis in Benue State, the president sent the Inspector General of Police to personally take charge of the situation. When the president finally visited Benue State, after weeks of public outcry, and was confronted by residents who said the police chief was a no-show, he told a bewildered nation that he did not know that his police chief defied his orders. And, of course, he did nothing.

No wonder when asked in February what he would tell President Buhari if they met, Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, replied: “I will say to him, Mr. President I think you are under a trance.” There couldn’t have been a more apt description of a president we elected almost four years to take charge and pull the country from the brink. I don’t think President Buhari has woken up from that dream. What we have in place of an elected president is a space holder surrounded by a bunch of nefarious enablers.

President Buhari’s listlessness and nonchalance is only matched by his parochialism. Take his handling of the crisis at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) or the appointment of a new head for Nigeria’s internal security agency, the Department of State Security (DSS). In August 2018, while President Buhari was away on medical vacation in the UK, the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, sacked Lawal Daura the notorious director general of the DSS and Mr. Buhari’s kinsman after a botched DSS invasion of the National Assembly. He was replaced by Matthew Seiyefa, from Bayelsa State, the most senior director at the DSS. Mr. Seiyefa appeared, at least from media reports, to be doing a good job at his new post, clearing a backlog of unpaid allowances and repositioning the institution in accordance with equity, fairness and respect for the rule of law.

For someone who had been assailed for his manifest nepotism and utter disregard for the country’s diversity, it was expected that the president would allow the appointment to stand. Not President Buhari. A month later, the president, predictably, had to recall “one of his own”, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, from retirement, to replace the acting president’s appointee.

It is an understatement to say President Buhari is stuck in the past. But if that alone was the problem, then it wouldn’t matter. The president has no notion of nationhood. He certainly needs a lot of lesson in running a modern, diverse and multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria. Unfortunately, it is too late.

The beauty of democracy—if we follow its tenets—is the prospect of peaceful and periodic transfer of political power. As a nation, let’s not be afraid to take our chances, to try something different. It may not always work out, but it deepens our sense of understanding and purpose.

We took our chance with Mr. Buhari in 2015 and it has turned out to be an unmitigated disaster. Now is the time to move on.

2019: President Buhari says 'I'll seek re-election'

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his intention to seek re-election in 2019 general elections, reports ITRealms.

Confirming this to ITRealms, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Alhaji Garba Shehu, informed that President Buhari made the declaration at a closed-door meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, Monday.

Also, the President was quoted as saying he was responding to the clamour by Nigerians to recontest in 2019, adding that he wanted to give NEC the honour of notifying them first.
Equally, ITRealms gathered that shortly before making the declaration, the President presented a speech on the report submitted by the APC National Executive Technical Committee.

Buhari, are you dead?

Commentary@ITRealms:
Most columnists, writers and public commentators have shied away from doing so but today yours truly will treat a matter and pose a question that is in the hearts and minds of many both within and outside Nigeria.

The question is whether President Muhammadu Buhari (remember him?) is actually dead or still alive. And, assuming that he is still alive, is he lost to the world in a vegetative state and deep coma, is he suffering from an extreeme and crippling form of dementia or is he lucid, functional, rational and clear-thinking?

These are the relevant and poignant questions that many are seeking answers to yet this whole matter and everything that flows from it, for some strange and inexplicable reason, is shrouded in the utmost secrecy and subtefuge.

The Presidency has told us that Buhari has travelled out of the country yet no-one has seen pictures or footage of him going out of Nigeria or arriving in his preferred destination in a foreign land.

Assuming that he really did travel out one wonders which country he was ferried to, whether he went there on his feet or on his back and whether he is presently on admission in a hospital or resides in a private or official residence.

The Presidency claims that he is still alive and we sincerely hope that this is the case.

Yet many have their doubts simply because it has been proved over and over again that the Federal Government are nothing but a nest of vipers and a brood of pernicous and pathological liars.

They lie as if there is no tomorrow and consequently few believe anything that they say including the assertion that the President is still alive or that he is running the affairs of our nation from his sick bed in the United Kingdom.

The truth is that if the Presidency or the Federal Government told us that it was day outside most of us would be forced to assume that it was night.

That is how skeptical the more discerning amongst us are about what those in power tell us.

Between the rulers and the ruled in Nigeria today there is no trust.

Consequently we are under no obligation, given their compulsive and sociopathic affinity for mendacities and deceit, to believe anything that the Buhari admnistration or the Presidency tells us.

The bottom line is this: if the President is dead, stop playing games, tell us the truth, bury him with dignity and let his soul rest in peace.

If he is alive let us know exactly what has afflicted him, what his condition is, where he is, how he is doing and, most important of all, give us PROOF OF LIFE.

Anything short of treading one of these two paths is not only dishonorable but also utterly reprehensible and amounts to nothing less than a glaring and singular insult to the collective sensibilities of the Nigerian people. Simply put, we have a right to know the truth.

The usage of lies, deceit, secrecy, subterfuge and disinformation in the administration of governance coupled with the promotion of indiscipline, the encouragement of impunity, the disobedience of court orders, the undermining of the rule of law, the destruction of democratic institutions and the lack of fairness and justice are the worst forms of corruption.

Sadly this government, more than any other in the history of our country, is guilty of each and everyone of these grave charges. This is deeply troubling and it gives us cause not only for concern but also deep introspection.

Meanwhile we congratulate Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for finally signing the 2017 budget. Even though we are already half way through the year, as they say, it is better late than never.

This is a step in the right direction and it is worthy of applause and commendation. However what causes some consternation and beggars belief is the asinine and childish assertion by Mr. Shehu Garbage of the Presidency that President Buhari "gave his permission" for the Acting President to sign it.

Honestly when I heard this contribution I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry. I was constrained to ask when the Presidency had transformed from being Nigeria's most powerful and exalted seat of power into a theater of comedy and a home for second rate comedians.

These people will do and say anything to hide or distort the truth and to humiliate and undermine the authority and standing of Acting President Osinbajo.

And the fact that Osinbajo allows them to get away with it is an eloquent testimony to his nauseating weakness and inability to take control and administer power in the way that he is expected to do.

After all we do not operate a monarchial system of government in Nigeria and Buhari is not a King. He does not have any "divine rights" and he is not a deity or a ruler with absolute powers.

He is simply a democratically-elected President who is bound by the rules and conventions of the constitution and who is meant to be nothing more than a servant of the people.

In this context the question that needs to be answered is simple and clear and that question is as follows.

Does an Acting President need the permission of a sick, AWOL and bed-ridden President, who has been compelled by his debilitating ill-health to formally hand over power to his second-in-command as the constitution dictates, to sign the budget? The answer is a resounding "no".

This is especially so when we have been intimated and informed by an excitable, well-known and rabidly pro-government and fanatically pro-APC online medium known as Saharareporters that the President is in a "vegetative state" and that he "cannot speak to those around him or recognise his environment".

If the Presidents friends and supporters can write and publish such things about his medical condition what are the rest of us supposed to think or believe?

We have been assured by that medium that his situation is so critical that even his wife was barred from seeing him when she travelled all the way to the United Kingdom to do so.

If this is true (and up until the time that I am writing this contribution it has not been publicly refuted or denied) it raises some very serious questions and the first one of those questions is why the Presidency and the Federal Government deem it appropiate to hide the truth from the Nigerian people?

Yet it does not stop there. Mr. Eric Joyce, the well-known British ex-military, ex-Member of Parliament and serving MI6 operative who has always had a special interest in Nigeria and who has always been an ardent supporter and friend of the President and his government has come out boldly to suggest that Buhari is dead and he has challenged the Nigerian people to ask the Presidency for proof of life. His words:

"For now, with no sight nor sound of the President and no proof even of life for some time, it seems that in a bid to manage the succession the Presidency may be lying to the public about the Presidents health or even life, and making Nigeria’s democratic status a mockery into the bargain".

If we choose to reject Joyce's suggestion that Buhari is dead and instead we accept the narrative that he is still alive but bed-ridden and critically ill, the assertion that he is in a position to "give permission" for the budget to be signed remains equally childish and absurd.

And the truth is that the Villa rats that made that astounding assertion are talking and behaving like second rate actors and low-level performers in an X-rated, sleazy and seedy Parisian porn film and Swedish blue movie.

All you hear from them are animal-like grunts and groans and loud, fake orgasms.

This is corpsocracy in its most glaring, repugnant, primitive and repulsive form. It is a squalid and sordid attempt to impose a godless and alien system of governance which can be best described as the "rulership of the living by the dead" on the Nigerian people.

Nigeria cannot be ruled from the grave. She cannot and must not be ruled by the dark and faceless agents and sinister emissaries of a shrouded and embalmed Egyptian-like entombed mummy or the surrogates of a corpse that is either stone-cold dead or is dead to to the world and barely alive.

We deserve far better than that and we have the right to be told the truth no matter how bitter that truth may be.

The fact of the matter is that anyone that believes anything that this evil government tells them is truly lost.

The truth is that it was not Buhari that gave Osinbajo permission to sign the budget but rather evil mafia and dark cabal that runs this country in his name.

If those that put that statement out were not utterly shameless how can they even say publicly that an Acting President who is more than capable of running the country has to wait for permission or for backing from a sick President that no-one has seen or heard from in weeks to sign a budget six months into the fiscal year.

Clearly these people are drunk on power and it has affected their ability to reason properly or think straight. Clearly Nigeria is in a precarious position right now.

Our government is a government of liars who are sustained by lies, who live by lies and who will die by lies.

Their spiritual foundation and the very essence of their being is built on nothing but perfidy and mendacity.

Their souls are dark, their spirits are corrupt and their consciences are seared beyond redemption.

The shedding of human blood is their delight, the sacrifice of the innocents is their pleasure and the administration of disaster, hardship and misery is their joy.

They are nothing but sadists whose declared intention is to keep us in bondage and rule for another "two hundred years".

And even as our people are dying of hunger and being slaughtered on a daily basis by Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram they offer no apology for their shameful and glaring incompetence and neither do they display any remorse for their inability to protect the people that they were elected to serve and defend.

Instead of doing that all they do is just tell us one lie after the other. For example when asked about Buhari's medical condition the Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed, had the effrontery and nerve to tell Channels Television that "President Buhari is alive and well and he talks to Acting President Osinbajo every day!"

If anyone believes that hogwash they will believe anything! And the minute Lai said it his already big, fat and oversized nose grew ten inches longer.

What a terrible plague and affliction has befallen our nation. That plague and affliction is known as Muhammadu Buhari and his clandestine cabal of sinister and byzantian tormentors.

May God deliver Nigeria from their evil claws and mendacious clutches?

President Buhari to continue medical rest in Nigeria, return to UK in 3 weeks

Despite spending 51 days in the United Kingdom (UK) on medical vacation, President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Nigeria, Friday morning, to continue his rest at home, ITRealms exclusively reports.

Also, President Buhari, ITRealms gathered, will be returning to the United Kingdom in three weeks for further medical checks.

This, Aso Rock analyst said, would enable the vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to consolidate his acting capacity.

For most Nigerians, this development is an endorsement for Osinbajo’s presidency and capacity to lead the country which has seen some improvement since January 19, 2017.

Yet for another school of thought, Osinbajo’s continuation would blossom from the current state, which many described as mess.

President Muhammadu Buhari returned to the country, Friday March 10, 2017 after his plane landed at the Kaduna Airforce base before he was chauffeured to Aso Rock with an helicopter, after he was received by top government officials.

On arrival at Aso Rock, President Buhari, correspondent report, entered into meeting with service chiefs and chieftains of All Progressive Congress (APC) led by its chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said, the extended holiday was based on doctors' recommendation for further tests and rest.

ITRealms, recalls that President Buhari left Nigeria on January 19, 2017 for a vacation, during which he had routine medical check-ups.

As said by Adesina, President Buhari expressed appreciation to teeming Nigerians from across the country, and beyond, who had prayed fervently for him, and also sent their good wishes.

Citizen Ayodeji writes President Buhari

Commentary@ITRealms:

Your Excellency,
I hope this letter finds you still amazing. Mr. President, It’s been almost two years since we danced to your victory as “the chosen one” from Nigeria’s Presidential election held on March 28th 2015. You overwhelmingly won the election by more than 2.5million votes. Nigerians across planet earth celebrated your arrival and hoped for a new era as you promised us during the campaigns. We saw you as a disciplined, principled and humane leader: a born again democrat.
You vowed to, among many of your vows and promises, deal swiftly and severely with corruption, the fabric of our failed economy, restore accountability in government and create encouraging lifestyle for disenfranchised Nigerians. We believed. We stood with you. Nigeria had been waiting for you through the years. Thence, the aged, weak, sick, young, vibrant stood in long lines and waited for hours to vote for you on Election Day.
Sir, during those campaign months, you and your party assured to stabilize the fall of Naira and brought its value to match One naira to the dollar. Today, the toilet paper is more valuable than the Naira, compared to the Dollar which seemed as valued as fresh air. Furthermore, you promised to provide free meals and fruits to public schools across our dear native land, create 720,000 jobs in 36 states of the nation at the rate of 20,00 per state, pay 5,000 Naira unemployment benefits to poor and unemployed Nigerians, especially our youths, build five million homes to benefit low income Nigerians before the end of four years. We are three months away from your second anniversary as President, still, we have not heard of any foundations to these promised buildings: school children continue to wait for free meals and fruits, unemployed Nigerians praying for bank alerts on their phones for the promised 5K monthly benefits from your administration.
Many Nigerians are unable to pay their rents because of recession and inflation driven economy. Baba, please let me continue with your promises which included; ban all public office holders from seeking medical treatment outside Nigeria. But few months after you were sworn in, you had what your Media Advisers said was “acute ear infection”. Baba, you were flown to London for treatment of “ordinary ear infection.” About the same time that you were being treated in London, my seven month old daughter, Darasimi had ear infection too. She was treated by a Nigerian doctor at a Nigerian Hospital. Baba, you see why you began to fall my hands?. But I was willing to give you further benefits of doubt!.
Please sir, remember your words at the platform of campaign trails?: You were determined to fight corruption. You made this your first priority, going further to state that your new administration would remove immunity clause for elected officials from the constitution, especially the criminal ones”. Sir, we have read several arrests by EFCC of some officials of Goodluck Jonatahan’s administration, including alleged findings of our dearest former First lady, Patience Jonathan’s $31million in her bank account which was recently discovered and seized by EFCC. These officials’ were allegedly arrested for babanla embezzlement and looting of our commonwealth. These arrests were front page conversations. Did you remember Dasuki, Diezani, the “Ogas” of our Armed forces and now our judges? I can’t name all of them because of time and space. We read about the huge amounts recovered and arrests made: Nigerians are yet to see any one of these officials convicted and or sentenced to jail.
Baba, please where are the monies recovered so far?.
Nigerians want to know what happened to the discoveries and recoveries by EFCC?. These monies are more than $30Billion loan you tried to seek from foreign Banks, but rejected by the Senate.

Your excellency, few days before you were sworn in as Nigeria’s President, “Agolo Derica rice was 70 naira; (can of derica tomato sauce is used to measure grains of rice for retail sales by local market women) five liters of palm oil cost 900 Naira, pure water was five naira per sachet . Gala was hawked at 50Naira , along Third Mainland Bridge and on all “go-slow” jams in the cities, from Lagos to Abuja. These were our “inside go- slow snacks”. A bag of rice cost 10,000 Naira. My daughter’s SMA milk was 1000 naira per Can. Gasoline (Petrol) was 87 naira per liter.

Although there was suffering in the land, hope was still alive.

Few days before the 2015 elections, I visited mommy Muka Popoola’s Amala joint ni Ogbomosho, in anticipation of your celebration. Sir, that day, I useless 1000 Naira on greatest homemade food and orishirishi Nama meat, flavored and cooked by Muka’s decent dear mother.

Still, while you were President- Elect, I spent less than 5000 Naira to get my friends Uzor Maxim Uzoatu and Basil Chiji Okafor drunk on any given day, at our regular Larger Beer Assembly. But these days, 5000 Naira Larger Beer neither intoxicated Boroja nor provoked Alika. Shayo has become a bastard…This is our state of the nation today.

Mr. President,
10a.m on Monday, I sent my daughter to buy a sachet of pure water with 10 naira. By 3p.m, the heat was steaming planet earth with dehydration. I sent my daughter, again, for another sachet of pure water to cool my thirst: she returned few minutes later, pacing up and down our veranda, screaming:”daddy, its 20 Naira a sachet now O….”

This is holiday season: Christmas is moments away. Our markets are near empty with inflation destroying the land and hurting the people. There is anger, frustration and disappointment in every home across Nigeria.: a bag of rice is cruising toward 35,000 Naira while a five liter palm oil shut up 200%. Prices of essentials of life are devastating. Money is not circulating. The people are no longer frustrated. They are VERY angry. Mr. President, I am also angry. Nigerians are anxiously waiting for 2019 vote, again. Yes. They will Vote: Vote you out of office, it will not matter if miracle happens between now and 2019 and turned things favorably around. Nigerians will not Vote for you. I will not campaign for you, sir.. The scourge from sufferings is peeling our precious dark and lovely skins. Lacerations from hunger flogs have become infected deep wounds on our bodies. Do you feel like we do?.

Nigerians are tired of your silence and lack of economic policies to immediately revitalize the state of the nation’s recession. Nigeria keeps sinking at every sunrise, under your watch. We are no longer feeling you.

In 2007, America’s economy was deep in its freefall as a result of trillions of dollars then President George Bush sank into a sexed up war on Iraq. The fabrics of America’s economy: the auto and Housing industries were imploding, cost of living was unsteady, gas prices were climbing, unemployment was at near two digits deficit, interest rates were rising beyond expectations and the Presidential election campaigns were happening. America was busy, but in economic mess: George Bush invited the presidential candidates and other policy adviserAmerica’s best economists and secretaries to a special economic session where they unanimously agreed to effective immediately rescue the economy by pumping $7billion bail out money to these stressed industries.

The bailout loan impacted ordinary every day Americans within few months: It was the beginning of its economic recovery, the recovery eased the lives of everyday people: the government supported its citizens by expanding welfare and unemployment benefits to middle class in most states. George Bush continued with its tax breaks for middle class with children. These may be little efforts but they eased the pains of everyday Americans. I understand we do not have a buoyant and organized free market economy: but Mr. President you have wasted nearly two years without any attempts to fulfill your campaign promises It took you nearly nine months to appoint Ministers that would help run your administration. The Ministers continue to recycle old clichés from Aso Rock. We are tired of corruption wars that have marginalized us.

Your focus on war on corruption has neglected other segments of the economy, thus allowing recession to ferment. Nigerians are asking, rather “Na corruption we go chop?.” Major companies are closing their doors, airlines are leaving or threatening to leave our country, Nigerian businesses are closing down shops, laid off workers everyday: the people are vexed and hungry. It is not enough to publish the names of 200,000 Nigerians recently employed by the government: Impact Nigerians with aggressive policies that would change the dynamics of our lives. Give us short term solutions that would positively affect our lives Now. We are tired of being told this and that every day: show us. President Buhari, do something, Now!

FG making genuine efforts to correct lapses – President Buhari

The President, Muhammadu Buhari has assured that lapses that have characterized Nigeria as a nation would be corrected, reports ITRealms.

Receiving a team led by Dr. Seth Berkley, Chief Executive Officer of Gavi and the Global Fund in State House, Abuja, last Thursday, President Buhari said he was impressed with the patience and steadfastness of leading supporters of health care in Nigeria, despite the country’s shortcomings.

"We are making genuine efforts to correct the lapses. We are very serious about people behaving themselves, and being accountable," he said.

Buhari also commended the visiting team for deciding to re-engage with the country, despite noticeable inefficiencies.

“You decided to be here, not minding our shortcomings. There are other countries that would bring less problems. We appreciate your commitment, and we will do our best to put ourselves in the best shape to help us," President Buhari said.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina quoted Dr Berkley as noting that the three focal points of the Buhari administration; security, economic development, and anti-corruption were critical to the future of Nigeria, stressing that these points have raised issues over the way donor funds for health care were utilized in the past.

He said Gavi and the Global Fund were disappointed when forensic audit revealed systemic weaknesses and corruption in the utilization of funds given in the past, adding that there is now a "breath of fresh air" under President Buhari’s leadership and fight against corruption and they were willing to "close the books of the past, and look into future support."

Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, who was also at the event, disclosed that those indicted in the audit of the donor funds in the past, which was done between 2010 and 2015, had already been questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and would be arraigned in court soon.
