He insisted that his return to Globacom was never a second chance per say but based on the respect for chairman of Globacom, Otunba Mike Adenuga, who he sees as “a father than an employer.”

Buhari returns to UK on medical trip

ITREALMS:

The President, Muhammadu Buhari would today, Tuesday begin a four-day medical trip to the United Kingdom (UK), reports ITRealms.

Confirming this to ITRealms, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Garba Shehu, said the President would see his doctors.

“In the course of the technical stop-over for aircraft maintenance in London on his way back from Washington last week, the President had a meeting with his doctor,” he disclosed.

Pointing out that the Doctor had requested the President to return for a meeting which he agreed to do.

He also said, President Buhari is expected back in the country on Saturday, May 12th.

Shehu further recalled that on his return, the President’s two-day State Visit to Jigawa, which was postponed because of the All Progressives Congress, APC’s Ward Congresses will now take place on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th May.

Medical Tourism: President Buhari returns after 104 days in UK

The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has returned to the country Saturday evening, after what political observers tagged the longest medical tourism in the history of Nigeria, reports ITRealms.

Buhari's return is coming some 104 days after leaving Nigeria for medical attention in the United Kingdom (UK) and was quartered at the Abuja House in London throughout his stay.

The Special Adviser to the President on 
Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina while confirming this to ITRealms noted the President had left the country on May 7, this year, after handing over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who has functioned as Acting President since then.

President Buhari is expected to speak to Nigerians in a broadcast by 7 a.m on Monday, August 21, 2017.

He thanks all Nigerians who have prayed ceaselessly for his recovery and well-being since the beginning of the health challenge.

The Eagle Online returns

The management of online newspaper, published by Premium Eagle Media Limited, has announced the return of The Eagle Online, after a few days break, reports ITRealms.

Disclosing this, the Managing Editor of the newspaper, Dotun Oladipo told ITRealms that they took a break to enable it change its host service and put in place a new theme, both of which have been fully accomplished.

“Some of those who have visited the news website since it was reactivated have described it as reader friendly and fast on both handheld devices and desktops,” he said.

Etisalat U-15 school cup football returns

Etisalat Nigeria has concluded plans to kick off the third season of its Under 15 School Cup football competition, reports ITRealms.

This is coming two years after the last one was held.

ITRealms reports that Etisalat U-15 School Cup is a national grassroot football competition designed to connect, engage and promote young football talents. It promotes national unity by connecting young and aspiring footballers to becoming future champions.

Director, Brand & Experience, Etisalat Nigeria, Elvis Ogiemwanye, said the third season will provide exciting prospects of building on the success of the last two editions. 

“Our commitment to the nation is to support and create credible platforms that can contribute to the development of the country. Therefore, we are committed to developing a pool of young football talents. The success of the last two editions makes it even more exciting for us,” he said.

The 2016 edition will start with state competitions where various schools will compete at the state level to win a spot at the regional group stage.  The state winners will compete at the regional stage where 8 teams with the highest points will qualify for the National Finals happening in Lagos in November.

The regional group matches will kick off with a Trophy tour around the host cities of Ibadan, Ilorin, Enugu and Kaduna to enable respective participating teams and their supporters catch a glimpse of the prestigious Champions Trophy and experience the Mobile Champions Studio which is an innovative platform created to enable participants take creative pictures of themselves as well as tell their own football stories to Nigerians. 

The impressive trophy was inspired by other international tournaments, and it is predicated upon the belief that the competition will produce international champions in the near future.  

According to the Head, Events and Sponsorships, Modupe Thani, “the trophy has been designed to inspire our Etisalat School Cup Champions to believe in themselves and to dream of playing and winning bigger football championships as they grow their football talents and move unto professional football.”

The tour also features the Etisalat Football Truck where school students will need to score goals into holes positioned on the vehicle.  The tour promises to be exciting, engaging and very competitive.

The maiden edition of the competition in 2013 was won by Keke Senior High School, Ijaiye, Lagos and the school was rewarded with N1million cash prize and an all-expense paid trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while the 2nd edition was won by Government Secondary School, Owerri, Imo State going home with the star prize of N2 million educational award and N50, 000 each to players of the winning team.

France returns Nigeria’s artifact intercepted on transit

France has formally returned to Nigeria the Nok Terracotta that was repatriated after it was intercepted in France while on transit from Togo to the United States eight years ago, reports ITRealms.

French Ambassador to Nigeria Denys Gauer, who officially presented the artifact, a Terracotta figurative sculpture, to the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at a ceremony to mark the 2016 International Museum Day in Abuja on Wednesday, said, the artifact was intercepted in France as it was being taken to the United States on October 22nd, 2008.

In his address, the Minister thanked the French Government for demonstrating the will to fight illegal trafficking of cultural artifacts and urged other countries to emulate France.

“I will like to thank the French Ambassador specially for his country’s show of support in our fight against illicit trafficking of cultural goods and their untiring efforts at restitution and return of such items. I wish to recommend this ‘French Model’ to other countries,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed re-emphasised the determination of this administration to elevate culture and tourism to the mainstream of the economy in its quest to diversify the economy, create wealth and generate employment.

Speaking to the theme of the 2016 International Museum Day, which is ‘Museums And Cultural Landscapes’, he said the Administration places high premium on the development of the nation’s cultural sites and their utilization as veritable tourism products.

‘’We are positive that in our quest for the diversification of our economic base, this section will provide the needed instrument to actualize that goal,” The Minister said.

In his remarks, the French Ambassador said the presentation of the Nok Terracotta was in line with the International Law and within the framework of the 1970 UNESCO Convention aimed at preventing the illicit import and export of ownership of cultural properties, which was ratified by both France and Nigeria.

He said the gesture was an illustration of the French policy to fight illegal trade in cultural goods.

The Nok culture appeared in Nigeria around 1000 B.C. and later vanished under unknown circumstances around 500 AD. It is the earliest producer of life-sized Terracotta in sub-Saharan Africa.
