ASA Women USA honours AASDU President, Ebeledike, with 'Cancer Champion' award – ITREALMS

In recognition of his strategic role and structural support during its landmark 15th-anniversary milestone, the Anambra State Association, Women in USA, Inc. (ASA Women USA) has officially honoured the President of the Association of Anambra State Development Unions (AASDU-Lagos), Chief Sir Amechi C. Ebeledike, (Ikedinigwe), reports ITREALMS.

Chief Ebeledike was presented with the prestigious 2026 Cancer Coalition Award, specifically designated as the Project Partnership Cancer Champion Award. The presentation took place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, during the high-profile healthcare grant distribution ceremony held at the Patgelina Event Centre in Ebute Metta, Lagos.


The award plaque, jointly endorsed by the Founder and President of ASA Women USA, Dr. Anthonia Uche Umeh, and the Chair of the Board of Directors, Dr. Josephine O. Onor, highlights a deep appreciation for the critical local partnerships necessary to deploy grassroots healthcare projects effectively in Nigeria.

Chief Ebeledike served as the event's co-host and chairman, successfully leveraging the network of AASDU Lagos; the umbrella body governing all Anambra State Town Unions in Lagos State and its environs, to secure institutional alignment for the intervention.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Umeh extended her heartfelt gratitude to Chief Ebeledike for his unwavering personal and structural backing of the association's medical outreach. This collaborative synergy directly facilitated the distribution of life-saving medical grants valued at N1 million each to a cohort of eight vulnerable breast cancer survivors.

Beyond the immediate financial relief provided to survivors at the ceremony, the collaboration backed by AASDU Lagos forms a foundational stepping stone for ASA Women USA's ultimate regional infrastructure project: the establishment of the permanent Hope Cancer Center (HCC) in Anambra State.

In a goodwill message issued alongside the award, Chief Ebeledike, accompanied by his wife. Barr (Mrs) Joy Ebeledike and notable delegations from AASDU, expressed immense pride in partnering with the organization, noting that for 15 years, the "women of valour" behind ASA Women USA have continuously lifted the community by tackling critical health crises.

"For us in AASDU Lagos, it is a demonstration of the saying of our people: 'O nụlụ ube Nwanne agbana ọsọ' (He who hears his brother’s cry must not run away). Today marks a stepping stone to the greater works ahead," he remarked.

The event concluded with a strong renewal of vows between the US-based non-profit and local socio-cultural leadership bodies, ensuring that structural assistance, early-stage diagnostics, and cancer treatment grants will remain accessible to indigent women and children across Nigeria.
