Curse on Igbos: Catholic Church cautions Oba Akiolu, insists Nigeria a Republic, not Monarchy

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has cautioned Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, over the threat he handed down to Igbos in Lagos, insisting that Nigeria is a republic and not a monarchy, reports ITRealms.

The Catholics through the office of the Executive Secretary Caritas Foundation Nigeria and Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, gave this note of warning in a press statement made available to ITRealms, raising credibility of the Oba for acting god.

While condemning the threat handed down by the Oba of Lagos to the Igbos in Lagos that they should vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else perish in the lagoon, Catholic Church advised the Monarch to withdraw his curse with immediate effect.

They noted that the Royal Father is "missing the point that Nigeria is a Republic and a Democracy and not a Monarchy."

According to Rev. Fr. Bassey, denounced Akiolu's comments which, saying such amounted to threat and intimidation of bonafide citizens of this country, Nigeria. Stressing that Lagos has grown into one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Africa for decades, and "any citizen contributing to its economy and politics can be a bonafide resident."

Further the Catholic Church wonder “why single out a particular ethnic group for this curse? Does it mean a Yoruba or Hausa person living in Lagos who votes for Jimi Agbaje will go scot-free but any Igbo who votes for Agbaje will drown in the Lagoon? Does it mean that people should vote out of fear and not their consciences? Would such an election be free and fair, where people have to vote out of intimidation?

This, Catholic Church said amounts to voters intimidation.

Breaking News: Aladekomo to retire from Chams after 30 years

Founder and Group Managing Director of Chams Plc, Sir Demola Aladekomo will retire from his office from September 18, 2015, reports ITRealms.

Sir Aladekomo was the immediate past national president, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and has founded Chams Nigeria Limited, an Information Technology (IT) and servicing company since 1985, which later went to the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) availing it the title of a public limited company.

By September 2015, ITRealms learnt that Sir Aladekomo will have served Chams Plc for 30 years.

Sir Demola was also a former president of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association (LBSAA) and has been the vice chairman of ChamsAccess Limited, a subsidiary of Chams Plc since 2008 when it was established.

ITRealms gathered that Sir Demola attended the chief executive programme (CEP1) of Lagos Business School on Business Administration and Management after having his Master of Business Administration (MBA) on Operations Research from University of Lagos, whilst he graduated with his first degree from the University of Ife on Computer Engineering.

Sir Demola, who commemorates his birthday every December 31, is the President of Ivy League Club and has interests on Identity Management Systems, Electronic Payment Systems and Social Works volunteerism.

ICANN 54 fellowship round now open

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has opened up the fellowship application for the 54 public meeting, slated to hold in Dublin, Ireland on October 2015, reports ITRealms.

Since its creation in 2007, ITRealms reports that the Fellowship Programme has built a strong group of individuals who are actively participating in all of the ICANN communities as well as various Internet Governance entities within the Internet ecosystem.

According to ICANN, the programme beneficiary’s engagement ranges from writing articles and blogs, providing online or in-person public comment in regard to bottom up policy building, engaging in Internet conferences and panel discussions, lifting a pen in working groups, mentoring newcomers, assisting the regional leaders and becoming leaders themselves.

ITRealms recalls that the ICANN Fellowship programmne seeks participants from developing countries of the world in order to help create a broader base of knowledgeable constituents to engage in the Multistakeholder process and become the new voice of experience in their regions and beyond.

“Today, launches our latest application round where participants will join us at ICANN 54 in Dublin, Ireland this coming October,” ICANN officials confirmed.

This round, ITRealms gathered would remained open until 15 May 2015 and successful candidates will be announced on the ICANN website, 10 July 2015.

Visit Senegal from May 1 without visa

The Senegalese government will by May 1, 2015 commence implementation of its new tourism policy of entry without visa, reports ITRealms.

This came in the wake of suspected decline of business especially for enterprises along the coastlines over Ebola outbreak last year which is reportedly surfaced a few weeks back.

As said by President Macky Sall in a state address to Senegalese, this has become imperative to give boost to the tourism industry and nation’s economy at large.

He also proclaimed that government taxes on air fares would be revisited for the purpose of reducing it by at least half in order to make Senegal more competitive a destination.

Senegal, ITRealms gathered, recorded one case of Ebola last year, but since endeavoured to contain it.

Etisalat’s Nigerian Idol V: Preye, Prime, Dolu made first 3 into top 12

The first three contestants to move to the top-12 stage of the on-going Etisalat- sponsored Nigerian Idol season 5, have emerged, reports ITRealms.

The three contestants, ITRealms include Preye, Prime and Dolu were drawn from the first  group of 10 of the top-30 contestants, who were not only the choices of the voters, but also that of the Judges, who had predicted victory for the contestants before the result was announced by the host of the show, IllRymz.

Commenting on the exit of the other seven contestants, Head, Events and Sponsorship, Etisalat Nigeria, Modupe Thani said, “It is obvious that Preye, Prime and Dolu stood out among the first group of 10 contestants and the voters and Judges confirmed it.”

‘‘I am also happy with the number of votes we amassed from the audience so far and I am sure that, the voters will make the right decisions this season and crown the best contestant as winner of the Nigerian Idol season 5”. Thani added

Reacting to the voting pattern, Dede Mabiaku said the audience was becoming more knowledgeable in music and also rooting for the best talents.

 “I am impressed with the outcome of today’s eviction show. It has shown that, our task as Judges on this show is paying off, because the viewers are making the right choices through their votes.” Mabiaku said.

Overjoyed at making it to the top- 12, the trio collectively expressed their appreciation to the viewers and Judges for their votes of confidence, pledging to  prove that, they deserve their spots in the show.

The first runner-up of the Etisalat-Sponsored Nigerian Idol season 2, Joe Anthony Ekpo popularly known as Joe Blue ended the eviction show with the breath-taking performance of Shadrack Nosakhare’s hit song “Always on My Mind”, to the delight of everyone present.

The other two groups of 10 contestants will be battling for 6 spots in the top-12, leaving the Judges to decide on three contestants to make it to the wild card show.

 This weekend, the show will air on local television stations and cable networks like, STV, NTA, Superscreen TV, Rave TV, Smash TV, Ooduaa TV, V Channel TV, Real Star TV, Cool TV, Wazobia TV and Wap TV.

This season’s winner will go home with N7.5 million cash, a brand new car and a recording deal with Universal Music Company worth N7.5 million, amongst other prizes.

My husband needs N10m to survive,housewife cries out

Mr. Augustine Chibeze Chukwukelu, 42 ,who is suffering from chronic multiple kidney failure needs N10million to survive,so says his doctors. Doctors say urgent kidney transplant is needed if he must live a normal life again.

Making a passionate plea to Nigerians, his wife, Mrs. Vivian Chukwukelu, said her husband lives on borrowed time as he requires urgent kidney transplant ,the cost of which her family cannot afford.
According to her, they got married two years ago and had a year old son. Just when their young marriage was about to blossom, her husband was diagnosed of chronic kidney failure on August 16, 2014.

"His two kidneys are bad. His incessant vomiting, diarrhoea and tremour with very high body temperature was a challenge for us to manage. We were referred to start dialysis which we did and have continued to do up to date. But recently he started collapsing during the dialysis sessions and he loses consciousness for many hours. After all these the relieving effect hardly lasts two days before he starts swelling again on his face, stomach and waist down."

Dr. A. E. Nwansi of Platinum Dialysis Centre, Owerri, Imo State capital, where Augustine undergoes dialysis sessions, said that Augustine's kidney problem is very chronic. He said though he has been undergoing haemodialysis since September, 2014, the sessions are sometimes hampered by inadequate fund. He described the stage of his condition as "end stage renal disease" requiring only kidney transplant as solution. In his report about the case he recommended that Augustine will "benefit immensely from kidney transplant as he is still young with a promising future. "

Also in his report, Dr. E. I. Balogun of Madonna University Teaching Hospital, Elele, Rivers State where Augustine case is being managed said that Augustine is being managed "as a case of chronic kidney disease secondary to chronic glometulonephritis (end stage)." He recomnends treatment by a kidney transplant which he suggests will be better achieved outside the country.

To have the kidney transplant in an Indian hospital will cost about N10million.The cost includes cost of donor, surgery, drugs, airfare for the patient and others, accommodation for the duration of stay in India and other miscellaneous expenditure. Vivian says this amount is too much for them to afford and worst still they dont have a kidney donor.

Explaining Augustine's medical history, his cousin, Mrs. Kasie Abone, a Thisday columnist, said that Augustine suffered very serious health problems as a lad which affected his kidney.

 "Over the years the problem has gotten worse to this chronic stage when both kidneys have become very bad. His health condition has become a very big challenge and source of concern to the family.
Besides the pains he goes through during dialysis, the emotional and financial cost to the family is huge. That is why we are soliciting financial support from good Nigerians because the cost of achieving a successful kidney transplant is very exorbitant. Moreover, his condition worsens by the day. We fear if nothing urgent is done we may lose him.

Presently, Augustines condition is degenerating fast. His whole body including his private organ is swollen.

Vivian pleads to Nigerians "Please don't let my husband die. My baby is just a year old and too young to know his father. My marriage is only two years. I am too young to be a widow. Please help me" she cries.

Rivers youths allege INEC officials thumb printing for PDP

Watchful youths in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, have allegedly caught some people suspected to be officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) thumb printing at the Commission’s office, three days after the declaration of the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, reports ITRealms.

The youths, ITRealms gathered acted on a tip off and were able to video the officials and others that supervised the thumb printing; which further cripples the claim by INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega that there was no substantial evidence to cancel the elections in Rivers State.

Speaking on anonymity, one of the officials disclosed that the mass thumb printing, days after the election, was to justify the results tendered and provide evidence in preparation for tribunal.

The ballot papers from the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections were allegedly sponsored by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members.

This, ITRealms reports, is coming at a time the people of the area are mourning the yet to be investigated murder of three APC supporters in cold blood; one of them killed by a soldier.

Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had during the collation of votes of the March 28 elections admitted results, which indicated that PDP scored 1,487,075 to APC’s 69,238 votes from Rivers State.

The INEC boss claimed that there was no substantial evidence to cancel election results in Rivers State, based on the report of an investigative committee that visited Port Harcourt, but acknowledged administrative deficiencies during the conduct of the polls.

The APC in Rivers State challenged Jega’s claims, observing that “even a child will not believe that a state like Rivers, controlled by the party, that it would record less than 70, 000 votes without a single candidate as against the opposition party scoring over 1.4 million”.

The party questioned the rationale behind the said investigative committee meeting with only Gesila Khan, Rivers REC, in whom it had long lost confidence and perhaps the PDP being principally the parties whose misconduct it was meant to investigate.

Senator Magnus Abe, Rivers South-East Senatorial candidate of the APC who received the electoral materials from the Khana youths urged the CID unit of the police to commence a full scale investigation and prosecute the INEC and police officials involved in the fraud.

“As you can see before me are INEC ballot papers from Khana. At about 12noon (Thursday), youths stumbled on some INEC officials in their office in Bori, where they brought in presiding officers and supervisors to thumbprint ballot papers and doctored results all in favour of PDP” he said.

“I called the Area Commander, Bori and the DPO who told me the INEC officials were in Bori to collect their stipends on the last elections; I called CP Karma, who asked me to report the matter to the CID; I decided to inform the Nigerian public before proceeding to the police CID” Senator Abe said.

He also called on the INEC chairman, Prof. Jega to urgently effect the redeployment of the Rivers State REC, Gesila Khan before the April 11 governorship elections for showing executive recklessness in collaboration with PDP and the police and sued for the cancellation of the concocted elections, insisting that the votes counted in favour of the PDP were not cast by Rivers people.
