The continental technology and business trailblazers are set to gather in Lagos, Nigeria (West Africa) on 9 November 2022 for another edition of Africa Tech Alliance Forum (AfriTECH 2.0) as the continent’s sought-after technology Forum, exhibition, and awards ceremony, reports ITREALMS.

AfriTECH 2.0 scheduled to hold at Oriental Hotel, Lekki Road, is focused on ‘Sustainability and The Company of the Future’, as the central theme.

NLNG commends GOCOP says 2019 Confab theme 'paramount to us' - ITREALMS

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has commended the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), saying that the 2019 conference theme is very paramount to the organisation, reports ITREALMS.

The Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Nigeria LNG Limited, Sophia Horsfall gave this commendation in her goodwill message at the third annual conference of GoCOP held at Sheraton Ikeja, Lagos.

"I thank you for your warm welcome and for the constant support you offer Nigeria LNG Limited. We value your partnership with us in communicating our messages to our various stakeholders. Thank you once again.

"The theme for this conference: “Economy, Security and National Development: The Way Forward,” is most relevant at this time considering the prevailing socio-economic issues in Nigeria. I commend you for bringing various thought leaders together to discuss how to use your vantage position to address a theme that is very paramount to all of us irrespective of industries and sectors," she said.

In addition, she noted that Nigeria LNG Limited as a critical player in nation's economy appreciated the theme, saying,2019, is very remarkable one for the company as it marks 30 years of incorporation as a business entity and 20 years of safe and reliable operations. 

"Over the last 30 years, we have observed various obstacles to the economy, security and development of Nigeria. Some of these have challenged us as a company operating within the country. Nevertheless, we are proud to have been able to navigate through all the complexities to remain a Nigerian success story and a model for other organisations," she said.

Pointing out that the tough truth is that the same cannot be said of most other companies doing business in Nigeria.

"The challenges of national development are real and detrimental to many businesses, families and individuals in Nigeria," she said, stressing that the good news is that "we can find solutions to these problems if we ponder, rub minds, outline collective goals and work together as a nation."

NLNG, she said, believes this is what this conference is all about., just as she declared that "Today, building blocks can be erected to create strong pillars for a safe, strong, innovative, productive and leading country."

For NLNG, she said, as Nigeria turns 59 and as Nigeria LNG turns 30 this year, there could not have been a better time than now for a conference like this.

CSEAN unveils theme for ‘Cyber Secure Nigeria’ Confab’17

The Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN) has unveiled the theme for the 2017 annual Cyber Secure Nigeria conference, slated for Abuja in May, this year, reports ITRealms.

President of CSEAN, Mr. Remi Afon, made this disclosure to ITRealms at the weekend, saying that the theme of this year conference is "Building Resilient Cyber Defence".

He also said that Cyber Secure Nigeria conference has become an annual event which this year is the third of its kind and provides unparalleled cyber security gathering of Industry giants, government, academia, information security professionals from Nigeria and international community.

The three-day conference, he said, would take place between May 16 and 18 at the CBN International Training Centre, Maitama Abuja.

Afon noted that cyber threats and attacks are becoming commonplace, sophisticated and damaging. Governments, organisations and individuals are faced with an evolving complex threat landscape. State and non-state actors are capitalising on vulnerabilities to launch attacks.

He pointed out that through workshops, plenary and breakout sessions, Cyber Secure Nigeria 2017 will prepare participants to defend their networks and operations against growing sophistication of cyber-attacks by building resilient cyber defence.

CSEAN President underscored the fact that the global cost of cybercrime will reach $6 trillion by 2021, a threefold increase from the 2015 estimate of $3 trillion according to Cybersecurity Ventures. “Unfortunately, over 80 per cent of organisations and government agencies in Nigeria believe that since they have not suffered a major cyber-attack, there is no need for security to be implemented in their business plan,” he said.

Afon also quoted a recent report by Kaspersky as showing that North Korean hacking operation linked to Lazarus group targeted banks in 18 countries of which Nigeria was among the targets.

“Clearly, this has shown that Nigeria is not immune to cyber threats,” he said, stressing that the vast scope of cyber threats we face today makes a compelling case for legislation that will compel organisations to have minimum cyber security controls in place and also mandate them to make full disclosure once they are breached. This will assist the nation in understanding attack vectors we face and aid security experts in implementation of adequate security controls,” Afon said.

ITRealms recalls that CSEAN is a non-profit organisation composed of information security professionals in Nigeria and diaspora, recognising the need for unified effort and framework across board to tackle cyber crime. Hence, CSEAN was established as an advocacy group to galvanise the movement and development of Information Security in Nigeria.

e-Business fair 2015: Speakers call for diversification of economy

The 2015 e-Business fair with the theme ‘e-Business and the growth of your Enterprise’ kicked off in Lagos, with speakers calling for diversification of the economy, reports DigitalSENSE Business News.

The two-day event organized by Connect Nigeria which took place at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island Lagos, commenced Saturday February 21, 2015.

The fair is said to be the second annual e-business fair and the biggest in Africa that is organize to help the SME’s develop more skill and take their business to the next level.

The event DigitalSENSE Business News gathered featured guest speakers like Ibukunoluwa Ayodeji, Head of e-business, representing Union Bank, Mike Ogbalu Jnr from first Bank, Olujode Ayodele representing Sky Bank, Femi George representing Microsoft and Mr. Barow Osas that represented the Bank of Industry.

Speaking at the event Mr. Osas advised participants to key into the thriving growth of technology in the world, and always think of doing businesses that could never drop its value in the business.

He gave an instance with the Nigeria oil market that has dropped tremendously lately, saying that if the country had gets back to agriculture, the nation’s economy will not drop as such. “If Nigeria focuses on agriculture, our economy will never drop,” he said.

Mr. Osas also made mention of products that the Bank of Industry has put in place to assist the SME’s and to contribute to the growth of agriculture stressing that the Cassava Scheme Fund, the Rice Intervention Fund and millions of milling machines that have cut down the price for rice importation by less than 50 per cent. 

Mr. Osas also added that one of the major roles of the Bank of Industry is to train young entrepreneurs and give them the opportunity to grow their business by funding their business as long as they don’t deviate from production because the BOI is trying to address the issue of unemployment.

“The Bank of Industry can Finance anything as long as it involves production” he said.

For Mike Ogbalu Jnr from First Bank said that the FirstMonie platform is the fast, safe, and convenient mobile money service from First Bank, adding that with about 170 million Nigerians, 58.5 million adults own a mobile phone or device and 47.3 per cent have access to financial services, which means that FirstMonie is the gateway for fast growing businesses. 

Mr. Mike also encourage the SME’s to subscribe to FirstMonie platform as it is a fast way to grow their businesses saying that currently there is 2.4 million subscribers on the Firstmonie platform but only 20% are active today.

Femi George who represented Microsoft also explained to the audience what the giant company has developed to help and encourage the SME’s saying that people should stop seeing Microsoft as that big company that build computer machines, because it has gone beyond that.

Femi George pointed out and explains the Cloud Technology developed by Microsoft. He said the platform is out to take away the burden from SME’s and also fresh business starters  as it is a set of free configured building block that allows you to speed up and develop your business ideas.

“Leverage the cloud you will see that you can speed up your businesses and reach out to more customers or client just through you mobile devices from where ever you are,” he said.
