Offa bank robbery is terrorist attack says AISSON boss

The President of Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON), Dr. Ona Ekhomu has described the recent deadly attack on five banks in Otta, Kwara State, as a terrorist attack, reports ITRealms.

“The attacks exhibited all the hallmarks of a spectacular terror attack including violent neutralization of law enforcement, use of IEDs, use of automatic weapons, large number of attackers, ISIS-style vehicular convoy, aggressive combat tactics, large number of wanton deaths, etc.” he said.

In his reaction in Lagos on Wednesday, Ekhomu told ITRealms that the narrative of bank robbery was grossly erroneous and patently false. Stressing that it was a brazen terrorist attack aimed at causing mayhem, deaths and striking fear into the hearts of Kwara citizens.

He insisted that “the seizure of cash was a secondary objective.”

Pointing out that while it could be understood on the need for fear reduction on the part of the authorities, “it is not helpful to mischaracterize incidents thereby giving citizens a false sense of security.”

In a related press statement made available to ITRealms, Ekhomu argued that Kwara State had recorded incidents of violent extremism and terrorism in the past, and cited the case of the bombing of Ilorin township Stadium many years ago and cases of foreign espionage agents and their Nigerian conspirators detected in the state.

The security expert also argued that with the reported displacement of Boko Haram fighters from Sambisa forest and the mass release of Boko Haram suspects by the Federal Government, suspecting that a terror cell might now be active in the Offa area.

“The authorities must thoroughly investigate the terror attack and give Nigerians a proper explanation of what happened on that day.  The actual perpetrators must be arrested and they must provide corroborative evidence of their complicity.  Investigators must resist the temptation of arresting vagrants and labeling them Offa bank robbers in order to look good.  When the real perpetrators are caught, the Police must resist the temptation to commit extra-judicial killing.  The story of the perpetrators must come out.  It takes a very evil psychopath and sociopath to lay siege to a police station and kill nine policemen in one fell swoop and then proceed to murder at least 21 others,” he said.

Ekhomu, who is the first chartered security professional in West Africa advised that there was an urgent need to conduct adversarial threat assessments and vulnerability assessments of Police facilities in the country. He said that the design basis threat (DBT) for these facilities must be determined so that the security architecture and engineering of facilities would be robust enough to address the threat. Design basis threat (DBT) is the threat (e.g. tactics and weapons, tools, explosives, etc.) against which assets within a building must be protected and upon which the security engineering design of the building is based.

According to Ekhomu, “the Boko Haram insurgency has shown that there are some terrorists who delight in killing police personnel.  The Offa terrorists did not have respect for police lives or human lives.  Police fatality must be reduced to the barest minimum so that we can have a civilized society.”

The current over-deployment of military personnel, with all the attendant risks is because police personnel are an endangered species based upon the actions of home grown terrorists.

The Police agency and the Federal Government must ensure that persons or groups who harm police personnel pay dearly for such savage acts.

Ekhomu commiserated with the Inspector General of Police and the police family on the loss of nine police personnel and advised that they must be named, given heroes’ burial and their families compensated for their deaths in the line of duty.

Asserting, “Police lives must not be cheap.  We must honor their sacrifice and service to the nation”.

Elombah.com, a responsible media, not a terrorist organization - Ogannah

Elombah.com has been described as a responsible media organization and not a terrorist, neither is it championing Biafra terrorism, as being alleged in some quarters, reports ITRealms.

The President, Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN), Mr. Austyn Ogannah gave this description while responding to arraignment of Elombah.com and some of its senior editorial team on Thursday, insisting Elombah.com is a dependable media organization.

“Elombah.com is a responsible media organization. It is not a terrorist organization and neither is it championing Biafra terrorism,” he declared.

ITRealms gathered that Ogannah concerns arose from claims by the Nigeria Police Force of its members conspiracy to commit terrorism offences and cybercrime because over an opinionate article on their website, which the police see as uncomplimentary and offensive.

Hence, the Nigerian Police today, Thursday arraigned Timothy Elombah and Daniel Elombah over allegations of terrorism and cybercrime in allegation to cyber stalking, cyber bullying and for ‘championing Biafra terrorism’.

Ogannah, therefore, called on the police to withdraw the “spurious charges” without delay and stop harassing journalists for doing their constitutionally backed assignments.

ITRealms further gathered that a four-count charge filed at the Federal High Court 5 in Abuja by the Police revealed the Elombah brothers are being charged for cyber bullying and cyber stalking the Inspector General Of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris.

Ogannah said its worrisome by the police’s claim that the accused who are carrying out their social responsibility, which is enshrined in the constitution, intend to “create native war and lead to breakdown of law in the country.”

“The claim is not only ridiculous, but also disgraceful of the police force under the care of Idris,” he declared.

Ogannah said in the statement: “It is laughable that the police force under whose watch 110 female teenage students were kidnapped from their dormitory at the Government Girls Technical Science College, Dapchi, Yobe State, can shamelessly descend so low to the extent of filing fabricated charges against the two journalists who are contributing their own quota to National development.

“The reputable media organization has stated that they have nothing to do with the publication in question, because it was neither written by the Editor or Publisher or any staffer and there is nothing in Elombah.com that promotes terrorism in Nigeria.

“It is to be noted that the online medium has published series of articles against the activities of Boko Haram in the country and other acts of terrorism, so linking it with the activities of IPOB is a joke taken too far,” he said.

Miyetti Allah is terrorist organization – CAN insists

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) a terrorist organistion, reports ITRealms.

They also called on Federal Government and well-meaning entities and organisations like the United Nations and United States of America (USA) to chorus their declaration by designating Miyetti Allah, appropriately.

Speaking through its General –Secretary, Rev. Dr. Musa Asake, at the National Christian Centre, Tuesday, CAN said that declaration of Miyetti Allah as a terrorist organization is long over-due,

They urged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately overhaul the National Security Council with a view to sharing its membership equally between Christians and Muslims and possibly those who do not belong to either.

CAN equally said that Miyetti Allah has proved beyond doubts that its mission is not merely to breed cattles,  describing as hugely unfortunate the backing such a group is enjoying from current security agencies in Nigeria, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Ibrahim Idris Kpotum, particularly, given his recent utterances.

According to CAN scribe, Miyetti Allah has exhibited and committed genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Christians, especially the minorities in the Middlebelt.

"The Myetti Allah organisation should be tagged a terrorist organisation. Its leaders should be arrested and prosecuted for the genocide against the Christian minorities in the Middlebelt," CAN insisted.

CAN pointed out that the overhauling of the security apparatus of the country should start with the immediate replacement of the IGP Idris.

“We call for immediate replacement of the Inspector General of Police because our security can no longer be guaranteed.”

While advising President Buhari to eschew appointments built on religion, CAN said “No religion has a monopoly of competency, commitment and patriotism.”

Further, they called for immediate redeployment of all the Commissioners of Police nationwide, condemning in strong terms the attempt by this pro-Fulani government to introduce “cattle colonies.”

“The court granted the order to proscribe the group on Wednesday. It declared that the activities of the group constituted acts of terrorism. The Federal Government also accused France and the United Kingdom of aiding IPOB activities.”

Meanwhile, France said they have no link with IPOB especially with regards to financing stronghold of the group.
