Lenten Reflections: Distinction between penance and prayer by Fr. Ebido - ITREAELMS

Wednesday, 1st Week of Lent B@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

I do not intend to write every day of this Lenten period. I will write if I have something important to share. So take note of this. I listened at the homily preached by our house deacon this morning at Mass and I felt he made a point a wider audience needs to hear.
Lenten Reflections: Distinction between penance and prayer by Fr. Ebido - ITREAELMS
Essentially he quoted our brother, St. Thomas Aquinas who made a distinction between two forms of penance: one that is subjective, initiated by the individual, and that which is imposed by another (God). The people of Nineveh (Jonah 3:1-10) avoided the latter one, God’s punishment, when they chose to do the former (self-imposed penance).

He prayed: “Father, in the name of Jesus Christ…thank you for your word that has been given to us. Lord you told us that in the last days, there will be perplexity of nations. Men’s heart failing them from fear because of the things they will see…because of the terrible experiences in the nations of the world,”

“Right now Lord, many are afraid because of this deadly virus orchestrated by the devil, but you gave us power over every unclean spirits…to cast them out and cure diseases. In the name of our Lord Jesus, we come against the Corona virus from the very cause of it…from the very root of it. And we come against the devils, the demons that spearheaded this project.

“You devils of sickness and disease…you evil spirit behind the Corona virus, it is said that your work started in China, but wherever you started from and whatever nations you have gone, we break your influence now in the name of Jesus and we command you to stop your operations and your maneuvers over the governments of the world.

“In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, every demon of darkness that is involved in this wicked onslaught against the nations of the world. You devils of darkness that are responsible for destroying lives and economies of nations through fear of the Corona virus, we bind you; we break your influence in the name of Jesus.

“We command you now to stop in your tracks in the name of Jesus Christ. Your works are now frustrated. We dispatch angels of God to go forth and cause the vaccines to be made available; to come into operation; solution to come to men in their various nations; the cure to be available and cheap by the wisdom of God, be released into the nations now. In the name of Jesus, there is an answer and there is cure right now in the name of Jesus Christ. And there will be no more fear of it by the power of the Holy Ghost in the name of Jesus Christ.”

BAT: APC successful convention, prayer answered in reverse of opposition - ITREALMS Online

The National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the national convention which concluded at the weekend in Abuja successfully, was a prayer answered in reverse of opposition request, and for the continuation of the Change Agenda they promised Nigerians in 2015, reports ITRealms.

He stated this in his address to the convention on Saturday, entitled “To Continue the workd we started” a copy of which was made available to ITRealms.

He also said the convention has given rest to the doubters who gave APC no chance of existence or of continued survival have gotten their reply in full. “Their envious prayers and complaints have been answered in reverse,” he asserted.

According to him, they (opposition) wanted to see the end of APC and pursuit of good governance for Nigeria.

“You should not forget, as I shall never forget, the strong efforts they made to stop us in the courts.

“There were twelve cases brought trying to stop us from merging, from registering the new party, then attempting to bar our candidate from the election.

“Lacking the courage to face the democratic will of the people, they tried to misuse the courts as a weapon against democracy. We thank the judiciary for following the letter and spirit of the constitution by dismissing this dirty dozen of malicious cases filed against us.

“With their schemes foiled, those who tried to destroy us must bear witness to the destruction of their edifice of corrupt governance and their dreams of unjust domination of our nation.

“While they planned a lifetime of greedy enrichment by looting the people’s resources and the public treasury for 60 years, we moved to reform the economy to bring development and aid to the poor.

“When they called for hate and division, we strove for compassion and unity. When they hoisted the standard of bias, we raised the flag of justice and the chevron of fairness.

“When they sought to make Nigeria a monument to corrupt government, we sought to remake Nigeria into a place of transparency and honest opportunity for all.

“The APC’s formation is the most important political development in our recent history. This is not due to the names of those who founded the party. It is because of the ideals upon which the party was established.

“The APC was not brought into existence to compel the majority to serve the few. For 16 consecutive years, the PDP had already assumed that mean role.

“The APC came into being to reverse this unjust equation.

“Under the PDP, the people were made to let the beast ride them.  The APC came to stop this travesty. By right, it is the people who are to ride the beast not the other way around.

“As we go through today’s deliberations, we must keep in remembrance and put into action the purposes for which this party was formed.

“Yes, human nature is partly composed of personal ambitions. Life would be incomplete without such goals and dreams. Yet, we must be motivated by other things more sublime than our personal benefit.

“As good citizens of Nigeria and members of the party, we must seek to prosper with society more that we seek to prosper from society.

“In the APC, we are many but we are also one. Thus, we must stand together for democratic good governance or stand not at all.

“We have experienced much since our inception. Unexpected events and harsh realities emerged to block our way. Those who detest progress fought severely against us. And they are still fighting.

“Yet, we remain true to our beliefs. In a few short years, we have done more than the other party did in 16 long years,” he said.

Prayer @Functions: Bishop Kukah advises Nigerians to adopt 2nd stanza as prayer

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, His Lordship, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has advised Nigerians to adopt the use of second stanza of the National Anthem as prayer at every event to promote unity in the country among Nigerians, reports ITRealms.

Delivering a speech, weekend, at a two-day retreat organised by the Southern Senators’ Forum in Calabar, Bishop Kukah said, the use of Muslim or Christian prayers at events would only make Nigerians more aware of their dividing factors, and may someday lead to praying for the light-skinned et al.

Kukah was quick to assert his concerns, “I am worried that we are increasingly making ourselves aware of our differences,” he declared, adding that this altitude is further dividing Nigeria.
In the recent past, Kukah noted that he had always worried and had a lot of argument with people about the idea of Christian and Muslim prayer.

“If we continue at this level, one day there will be prayer for light skinned and not so light skinned people, short or tall people,” he lamented.

Further, he pointed out that as the chairman of the Governing Council of Nasarawa State University that the only opening prayer said during meeting is second stanza of the National Anthem which is as “good a prayer as ever.”

Bishop Kukah counselled Nigerians to make efforts at deliberately promoting things that would unite the country and its population, than divide it.
