Robbers attack NUJ National Secretariat, TOCG kicks - ITREALMS

The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abuja, were at the weekend attacked by some armed robbers, even as security has been beefed up, reports ITREALMS.

Although details of the robbery are still sketchy, the “Team Odusile Campaign Group (TOCG): Consolidation ‘18,” has condemned the alleged robbery attack describing the incident as unfortunate.

Director-General of TOCG, Dr Qasim Akinreti and Chairman, Lagos NUJ, said the NUJ National President Comrade Abdulwaheed Odusile has ordered a security beef up at the Secretariat while assuring all Nigerian journalists of a thorough investigation into the criminal attack on the headquarters of our Union.

“The Team Odusile Consolidation Group not only condemns this alleged robbery attack on our National Secretariat but also call on the NUJ President to leave no stone unturned until those behind this crime and/their sponsors are fished out and punished under the Nigerian law.

“We are shocked that anyone could contemplate and even carry out an armed attack on the Secretariat of journalists purportedly looking for money as if the Secretariat houses a bank. While we are equally suspicious of the timing of this criminal act few days to the 6th Triennial National Delegates Conference of our Union, we will not read too much into this heinous crime but keep our fingers crossed while awaiting report of investigations”, the statement said.

Meanwhile the NUJ president Comrade Abdul Waheed Odusile has enjoined all members to be calm as contacts have been made to top security officials in the country on the need for deployment of more security agents in and around the National Secretariat to complement the Union’s internal security team.

The national president was grateful to Almighty God that workers, especially night guards were not hurt during the attack.

The National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Wuse II at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, was in crisis this afternoon with violence between supporters of dissenting party loyalists, reports ITRealms.

According to reports monitored on Channels Tv, supporters of Messrs James Faleke and Yahaya Bello alias ‘Fair Plus’ were engaged in fisticuff.

ITRealms recalls that both James Faleke and Yahaya Bello are top contenders in search for a substitute for late Prince Abubakar Audu, the APC candidate for the Kogi State governorship election which was declared inconclusive by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Noteworthy is that Faleke, was Prince Audu’s running mate, while Yahaya was the first runner up during the party primaries.
