ATCON elects Teniola president, gets new exco

The Managing Director of Internet Solutions Nigeria Limited, Mr. Olusola Teniola, has been elected new president of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), reports ITRealms.

Teniola is leading other executive members including Engr. Tony Nwosu as first Vice President; Mr. David O. Roberts – 2nd Vice-President; Mr. Mike Ofili – National Secretary; Mrs. Aderonke Adeyegbe – Treasurer; Mr. Ike Nnamani – Coordinator Telephone Operations and Mr. Hyacinth Anucha – Coordinator Value Added Services.

ITRealms reports that the elections of the new exco were unopposed. 

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Teniola expressed appreciation for the successful and peaceful process and commended members for their support.

The immediate-past president, Engr. Lanre Ajayi has since handed over to the newly elected exco while the election followed the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday, May 11th 2016 at Protea Hotel, Ikeja-Lagos.

ITRealms also reports that the inaugural meeting of the Telecoms industry Advisory Council was recently held and the council elected Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande as the Chairman and Dr. Emmanuel Ekwuem, MD/CEO Teledom Group as Vice Chairman.

The outgoing President, ITRealms gathered was received a “National Outstanding Leadership” and “Commander of Nigerian Students” awards from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

The former ATCON president, confirmed that membership of the association has grown to 115.

ITRealms further recalls that during the tenue of Ajayi, ATCON made some progress including hosting training on migration from IPV4 to IPV6, AFRINIC and was sponsored by the NCC, Internet Solutions, Medallion Communications to name a few.

Ajayi pointed out that the NEC of ATCON paid visits to some of its members, a total of about seven members which included Swift Network, Visafone, IHS, Airtel, Etisalat, Natcom among others.

However, the auditor’s report was read by Mr. Olusegun Abraham, from Abraham Shalom and Co, and was adopted.

ICT Festival 2014 gains momentum with Omo-Ettu presiding



The immediate past-president of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) and Managing Partners of Telecom Answers Associates (TAA), Engr. Titi Omo-Ettu, is to chair the Nigeria ICT Festival 2014, reports ITRealms.

The chief host of the event and publisher cum Editor-in-Chief of Business Journal magazine, the organisers, Mr. Prince Cookey, disclosed this to ITRealms, saying that Engr. Omo-Ettu is expected to chair the event which target is to draw a large number of blue-chip operators in the Nigerian ICT space.

According to Cookey, the Nigeria ICT Festival 2014 has generated positive response from regulators and operators in the nation’s ICT sector, stressing that both the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and ATCON have indicated interest to participate actively at the event set for Thursday, October 30, 2014 in Lagos with the theme ‘Broadband: Path to Digital Future.’

Cookey further disclosed to ITRealms that Dr. Eugene Juwah, Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) would be the Special Guest of Honour and in that respect deliver the keynote address at the event while Engr. Lanre Ajayi, ATCON President is one of the distinguished guest speakers.

The organisers described the Nigeria ICT Festival 2014 as a platform to further celebrate the achievements of the sector over the years, give regulators, operators and telecom consumers the opportunity to generate Strategic Plan of Action for future growth of the industry and offer operators the opportunity to showcase their latest products and solutions to the market.

Cookey said the theme of the Festival, Broadband: Path to Digital Future aptly captures the essence of the Broadband Initiative by the Federal Government and the NCC to ensure sustainable growth of the industry via application of Broadband technology.

He expressed optimism that the event is set for successful outing given the high number of major players that have already signed on to participate.

The Business Journal publisher listed some of the conference topics to include: Broadband for the Masses: Perspective of Operators(MTN, Glo, Airtel, Etisalat, MainOne), Mobile Money in the Age of Broadband: The CBN Roadmap, Broadband: Opportunities & Challenges for Banks in Nigeria, Strategies for Deepening E-Payment System in the Age of Broadband, Strategies for Accessible & Affordable Broadband Regime in Nigeria: ATCON, ALTON,ITAN, The Future of Local Assembly of PCs in Nigeria and Broadband: Opportunities & Challenges for State Governments in Nigeria.

Juwah, Ekuwem for ATCON’s forum on telcos, regulators


The Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene Juwah and the Chief Executive Officer, Teledom Group International, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem are among the industry top-notchers expected to grace the 2013 Telecoms Executives and Regulators Forum by Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).

Confirming this to ITRealms, Executive secretary, ATCON, Mr. Ajibola Olude, said they have concluded plans to host the annual one-day Telecoms Executives and Regulators Forum.

He told ITRealms that the forum, scheduled for Thursday, November 28, is a full-day networking event which would also play host to the Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) of the organization.

On the main event expected to commence with a welcome address by ATCON president and Executive board member of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Engr. Lanre Ajayi. This would be followed by goodwill messages before the keynote address by the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene Juwah.

According to him, there products presentation by some designated companies, to be followed by panel discussion on ‘Effectiveness of Number Portability Scheme’ to be chaired by Aremu Olajide, Director, Network Operation, Globacom Nigeria.

The second panel discussion, he said would be on ‘Broadband: Open access, Spectrum, Right of ways, Stimulating demand etc’ to be presided over by the Executive Director, Corporate Services at MTN Nigeria, Mr. Wale Goodluck.

ITRealms also gathered that the third panel discussion, would be chaired by former president of the Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) and ATCON, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, who is currently the chief executive officer of Teledom Group on ’Migration from Analogue to Digital Broadcasting: Implications for Telecoms.’

Further, he said there would be yet another panel discussion on ‘Lawful Interception Issue’ to be chaired by Osondu Nwokoro, Head, Legal & Regulatory Affairs, Airtel Nigeria.
