The Federal Government (FG) has granted permission to members of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) to now replace Subscribers Identification Module (SIM), reports ITREALMS.

Confirming this development in an update on SIM Registration and National Identification Number (NIN) Integration made available to ITREALMS, ALTON revealed that their members have been granted permission to replace SIM for telecom subscribers in the country.
“We are pleased to report that our members have been granted permission to carry out SIM replacement upon verification of the customer’s NIN,” affirmed ALTON chairman, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo and publicity secretary, Sir Damain Udeh.

In this regard, ALTON said its members would be working with the authorities of the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) to ensure seamless system connectivity for verification of NINs.

Also, they noted the challenges experienced by customers seeking to replace or upgrade their SIM cards following the recent suspension of sale and activation of SIM cards by the government which also affected SIM replacement.

“We empathize with people who have been unable to reactivate their phone lines as a result of the suspension,” the group said.

ALTON, therefore, sought the continued patience and understanding of the esteemed subscribers as they work with all stakeholders towards speedily resolution of issues affecting SIM registration cum swap and activation.

“We assure you of restoring normal services in a seamless and effective manner as soon as possible,” ALTON reassured.

ITREALMS equally notes that ALTON membership includes major mobile network operators (MNOs), namely Airtel, MTN, 9mobile and Glo to name a few.
