The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) is seeking support of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), to fast-track the proposed integration of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) platform, reports
ITREALMS.

President of NIRA, Mr. Muhammed Rudman made this request during its annual working visit to the Director General, NITDA, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, recently in Abuja to present its statutory annual report to the agency as mandated in earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two and solicited for more support.

He also said that at NIRA, they are making efforts to promote digital economy by offering free ‘.com.ng’ domain name to newly registered companies by CAC.

“We’re seeking NITDA’s assistance for the CAC/NIRA Integration platform,” Rudman requested.

This integration, NIRA president explained, means automation of the system in such a way that someone registering a company with CAC will have the option of taking a ‘.com.ng’ domain name at the point of company registration.

Also, he said, this CAC/NRA integration initiative would pave the way for the global visibility to Nigerian companies through web presence.

Further, he said, NIRA is trying to domesticate the internet by encouraging hosting of Nigeria’s websites locally to increase the internet speed and reduction in the cost of data usage.

Earlier, NIRA Executive Secretary, Mrs. Edith Udeagu made a presentation to the management of NITDA.

In his response, DG NITDA, Mallam Abdullahi, reminded the delegates the importance of having strong partnership between his agency and NIRA, so as to have resounding impact in the Information Technology (IT) sector of the economy, stressing that government and private sector led organisations such as NIRA need each other.

“The role of government is to create an enabling environment for you to succeed and your part is to tell the government what it is you need to succeed,” he counseled.

NITDA DG urged NIRA to come up with a Know Your Customer (KYC) Policy in other to assist its accredited registrars and security agencies in case of eventualities.
