The
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday joined world leaders in condemning
the terrorist twin-attack on the Zaventem Airport and Maalbeek Metro Station in
Brussels, respectively, reports ITRealms.
While
commiserating with Prime Minister Charles Michel and Belgians over the loss of
over 30 lives in the attacks, President Buhari said the attack brings to the
fore the essence of reinforcing corporation against terrorism.
The
President assured Prime Minister Michel and the people of Belgium that having
suffered the horror and anguish of incessant terrorist attacks over several
years, Nigeria stands in full solidarity with them on this day of national pain
and trauma.
Special
Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a press
statement made available to ITRealms, quoted President Buhari as saying he
believes that the appalling attack on Brussels reinforces the need for greater
international cooperation to effectively confront and destroy global terrorism
and its perpetrators.
He
further assured the global community that under his leadership, Nigeria will
continue to work with other countries of the world to ensure that terrorism
never triumphs over free, peaceful and law-abiding nations and people of the
world.
Buhari
expressed sympathy with families of over 100 persons injured in the attacks and
wishing them a speedy recovery.
Meanwhile,
CNN reports that surveillance footage captured some three men, among them a man
wearing light-colored clothes with a hat, pushing a baggage cart through the
airport.
ISIS
has since claimed responsibility for the coordinated attacks, but authorities
said it's too soon to say for sure whether the terror group was behind the
blasts.
So
far, police have released photos of three men they say are suspects tied to the
airport attack, standing side-by-side.
Police
say they are looking for the man on the right in connection with the Brussels
attack.
