Ike Ekweremadu canvasses support for gender parity bill

ITRealms:
Drumming support for the gender parity bill in Nigeria, the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu has declared personal support for the bill eventually rejected by the Senate recently, reports ITRealms.

In his reaction at the floor of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu noted that only countries doing well are those where women have opportunities.

“Only last night, I was going through a document prepared by George Bush of America. Those countries that are doing well are those who give women opportunities,” he said.

Ekweremadu also said that from his Eastern part of the country, “Where I come from, women don’t eat egg and are restricted from touching the non-essential parts of animal.”

He stressed that now that concept has changed, pointing out that what is needed is time and education, not necessarily legislation.

“We will continue to encourage our women. I support this bill” Ekweremadu said.

ITRealms also reports that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has promised Nigerian women that the gender equality bill will be reintroduced, just as Nigerians have continued to condemn the reported onslaught on the bill led by Senators Ali Ndume, Sani Yerima, Aliero among others.
