Breaking News: Sudden death of Kogi APC candidate, Prince Audu divides party, lawyers

The sudden death of Kogi State governorship of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, is causing political stir in the party faithful, reports ITRealms.

Some of the party faithful who spoke on the death of Prince Audu and pleaded not to be mentioned blamed the APC leadership for over-stretching their candidate because they want to win the election by all means.

“Now, they have stressed the man to death, let them come and take his position,” a furious party loyalist declared.

Industry watchers said, this kind of bad blood being generated due to the death of Prince Audu may not augur well for APC in the planned rerun.

Audu's sudden death may not be unconnected to inconclusive election and heart attack.

Meanwhile, lawyers seem divided too over the candidacy of APC in the forthcoming rerun of the election in Kogi as indicated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, due to inability of the two major contenders, Prince Audu and Capt Idris Wada to scored the required number of votes.

This is coming as over 19 units were canceled and over 20,000 votes nullified outside the irregularities with the card reader.

In a related development, Vanguard Newspaper, reports that division was the lot of lawyers on Sunday on hearing the death of APC candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu.

Speaking on the issue Sunday, Second Republic politician and legal icon, Dr Tunji Braithwaite said the demise of Prince Abubakar calls for a fresh governorship election in Kogi.

“First, it is sad that Audu died. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. However, coming to mankind, life and activities must go on. If the front runner in an election drops dead, the next person with higher votes cannot automatically be declared winner.

He stressed that the deceased according to INEC scored higher votes at the close of polls results on Sunday. Audu’s death calls for another election. The incumbent, Capt Idris Wada will continue as governor until another election. There must be another election,” he said.

For the former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nwabueze Ngige, who is currently the Minister of Labour and Productivity, he predicted a hard time for INEC and judiciary, but insisted that if Audu wins, his ticket belong to All Progress Congress (APC).

“I foresee a trying time for INEC, judiciary … ticket belongs to APC,” Ngige said.
