The Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has honoured the former national president of NCS, Dr Chris Nwannenna, and two others at the 2014 Golden Names for their laudable achievement in the industry, ITRealms reports.

This is coming as three students emerged winners in the 2014 edition of Don Etiebet Innovative prize award organised by the group.

Dr Chris Nwannenna, while reacting to the award given to him called on all professionals to work round the clock to ensure that the challenge of connectivity is a thing of the past said without connectivity, the country’s achievements in the telecoms industry will be invisible.

Dr Nwannenna who commended NCS Lagos chapter for the award said he was overwhelmed by the award adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure that connectivity in the country is seamless, fast and hassle free.

Other individuals who were honoured as Golden Names include Dr. Abimbola Salako and Prof Adetokumbo Sofoluwe, who was given a post humous award.

The three students whose final year projects won the Don Etiebet innovative prize are Mr Joel Chibuzor (Bells University), Ms Razaq Omolara (Lagos state polytechnic), and Mr Oyewale Aduragbemi who came first, second and third respectively.

In his own reaction, Dr Salako called skilled and non skilled professionals to equip themselves with online courses to boost their capacity and also increase the sector’s input in the nation’s GDP.

“We have a big challenge in our hands. We have to contribute more than eight per cent to the nation’s GDP.  America is adding 25 per cent plus. We should imbibe the tool of e learning. Educational tools are online. It is our responsibility as professionals to propagate this. It puts us at par with contemporaries. Poverty, poor infrastructure and others are not an excuse. We have to do more in our industry”, he said.

Nigeria computer professionals have been enjoined to work assiduously to ensure that the challenge of connectivity plaguing the nation is tackled, ITRealms reports.
