The online voting for the Beacon of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) awards, would close March 15, as announced by the organisers, the Communication Week Media Limited, at the weekend.

The voting which takes place by sending emails to info@nigeriacommunicationsweek.com.ng to nominate candidates of choice is expected to close before 6 pm on March 15.

Spokesman for the company, Mr. Ken Nwogbo disclosed that the selection committee was pleasantly surprised by the passion with which Nigerians have been voting for the various nominees of the awards.

“The passion and energy have been unrivalled; the voting pattern show that Nigerians really recognise and appreciate the efforts of the nominees in steering the ICT industry in the country” said Nwogbo.

He recalled that the voting lines opened for Nigerians to choose companies and individuals who have affected their lives positively since November last year.

Four months after, he said, the trend shows that the award is living up to its billing as ‘people voice.’

Nwogbo also said the selection committee is expected to announce the winners of the awards at a special awards/dinner at the prestigious Eko Hotels on March 27.

He explained that the awards are free and have been designed primarily to recognise government and business organisations as well as individuals for their creativity and excellence in the application of ICTs and solutions to provide efficient and high-quality services to Nigerians.

The awards, he said, plans to reward the vision and enterprise of individuals and companies and organizations that contributed to the growth of the ICT industry.

“The Beacon of ICT awards aim to evaluate and recognize standards of excellence in the country’s quest for growth and development in the use of ICT,” Nwogbo said.

In additional the awards encourages public and private institutions to use ICT for development in general and improve public cum citizens based services in particular, while motivating other stakeholders in effective utilization of ICT for citizens’ services.

ICT professionals are provided a benchmark for recognizing and validating outstanding contributions with the awards.
