Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the cost of its diesel product to N1,020 per litre, down from N1,075 per litre at the gantry price, in an effort to better serve its customers and Nigerians in general.

Since it began diesel production in January 2024, the refinery has reduced the price of diesel more than three times, from an initial N1,700 per litre to the current rate, thus providing much-needed relief to manufacturers and consumers alike.

The use of the National Identity Number (NIN) has been discovered to have reduced examination malpractices in the country, says the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), reports ITREALMS.

This is coming as FG announced new deadline for NIN-Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) data verification to October 31, 2021 this year.

CBN reduces bank charges on ATM - ITREALMS

Apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reduced the service charge on withdrawals especially using the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) from current N65 to N35, reports ITREALMS.

CBN in a press statement available to ITREALMS on Sunday, said the reduction has become imperative to cushion effects of economic hardship on Nigerians and bank customers in the country.

ITREALMS recalls that banks in Nigeria before now, charge withdrawal fee on ATM useage more so if on third-party facilities other than that of the issuing bank’s ATM.

The N35 ATM fee according to the CBN should be imposed on customers after the third withdrawal within one month.

Latest directive, ITREALMS reports, is part of the major highlights of the new Guide to Bank Charges.

In addition, ITREALMS reports that CBN removed Card Maintenance Fee on all cards linked to current accounts, and also asked banks to charge a maximum of N1 per million for customer induced debit transactions to third parties and transfers or lodgments to the customers’ account in other bank on current accounts only.

The apex bank further warned banks to ensure full compliance to the new guidelines effective January 1, 2020, stressing that any bank that violates the provisions of the guidelines would be sanctioned as economic saboteur.

ITU reduces video bandwidth consumption with HEVC

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has unveiled a new video coding standard riding on the PrimeTime Emmy award winning ITU-T H.264 /Moving Pictures Experts Group (MPEG-4) ‘Advanced Video Coding’ (AVC), was agreed by ITU upon by member states, on Friday, January 25, 2013.

Officials of ITU informed ITRealms that the new codec will considerably ease the burden on global networks where, by some estimates, video accounts for more than half of bandwidth use.

According to ITU, the new standard, known informally as ‘High Efficiency Video Coding’ (HEVC) will need only half the bit rate of its predecessor, ITU-T H.264 / MPEG-4 Part 10 ‘Advanced Video Coding’ (AVC), which currently accounts for over 80 per cent of all web video.

Also, the HEVC, ITU noted, would unleash a new phase of innovation in video production spanning the whole Information and Communication Technology (ICT) spectrum, from mobile devices through to Ultra-High Definition Television (UHD-TV).

ITRealms gathered that ITU-T’s Study Group 16 had agreed first-stage approval of the much-anticipated standard known formally as Recommendation ITU-T H.265 or ISO/IEC 23008-2.

“It is the product of collaboration between the ITU Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG),” an ITU official statement remarked.

Noteworthy is that ITU is the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technology, spanning over 145 years.

As such, ITU coordinates the shared global use of the radio spectrum, promoted international cooperation in assigning satellite orbits, worked to improve communication infrastructure in the developing world, and established the worldwide standards that foster seamless interconnection of a vast range of communications systems.

 
Additionally, ITU oversees from broadband networks to new-generation wireless technologies, aeronautical and maritime navigation, radio astronomy, satellite-based meteorology and converging fixed-mobile phone, Internet and broadcasting technologies, ITU asserts as always its commitment to connecting the world.
