Microsoft gives meaning to mobility with new Surface Book, 950 Lumia series

Building on its track record of pioneering new categories, Microsoft has said it has given new meaning to mobility with Tuesday unveiling of Surface Book and Lumia 950 and 950 XL devices ITRealms reports.

The Surface Book is a powerful, high-performance laptop with stunning craftsmanship and incredibly accurate and responsive pen and touch support. Ultrathin, Surface Book combines the impressive power of 6th Generation Intel^® Core^™ i5 and Core^™ i7 processors with up to 12 hours of battery life⁴.

Microsoft Corp, ITRealms gathered, on Tuesday unveiled new Surface, Lumia and Microsoft Band devices, taking advantage of powerful and versatile hardware to unlock new Windows 10 experiences, including fast and secured login with Windows Hello¹; new Cortana2 experiences that turn Windows 10 devices into a personal assistant; improved touch and pen experiences on Surface; and Continuum for phones, which enables the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL phones to work like PCs³. Showcasing the innovation possible with Windows 10, Microsoft also shared new gaming experiences from Xbox and new details on Microsoft HoloLens, the first fully untethered holographic computer.

The Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft, Satya Nadella, said, that with Windows 10 and these new Microsoft devices, users are at the center of magical new experiences.

“We’re moving people from needing to choosing to loving Windows, and these devices promise to fuel even more enthusiasm and opportunity for the entire Windows ecosystem,” Nadella said.

Now running on 110 million devices around the world, Windows 10, ITRealms learnt, is off to the fastest start in history — seeing upgrades at three times the rate of Windows 7 in the same time period. With more than 1.25 billion visits to the Windows Store, Microsoft announced all-new universal apps for Windows 10, including Box, Facebook, Instagram, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Flipagram, Uber, and others. These apps add to the existing Windows 10 experiences that will be available on the new Microsoft devices.

According to a press statement by Microsoft, now running on 110 million devices around the world, Windows 10 is off to the fastest start in history — seeing upgrades at three times the rate of Windows 7 in the same time period. Microsoft reiterates mobility, productivity, connects with SMEs

The Managing Director, Microsoft Nigeria, Kabelo Makwane recently gave insight into the latest trends in technology which includes social, cloud, mobility and big data, saying that Microsoft is strategizing for the future with emphasis on mobility and productivity, reports ITRealms.

Makwane made this disclosure at an event tagged, “Night of Business Unusual” organized as part of the company’s strategy to empower every person and every organization on the planet for optimal productivity with Microsoft Mobile Devices and Services (MMDS) in Nigeria connecting with over 150 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) business owners.

According to the Managing Director, “We would be re-inventing productivity and business processes to achieve more on the go .Technology is moving at a fast space.  We live in a social world, where there are about 6.8 million devices that are out there.  We communicate with these devices whether smartphones, tablets, you name it.  It has become a part of our daily lives creating a platform for businesses to explore.”

In summary, he stated that Microsoft’s global strategy was to create more opportunities while explaining that the company’s focus is to be the leading platform and productivity company for the mobile-first, cloud-first world.

In the same development, Ade Ajayi, Business Group Director, Microsoft Office Division, Microsoft Nigeria in his presentation on “Driving Productivity for SMEs”, ITRealms gathered, said Microsoft developed solutions that enable small and medium sized businesses to collaborate effectively.

“Every small business really wants to grow and Microsoft is investing in technologies to enable them do this.  We have a cloud environment that allows you respond to your customers regardless of where you are so you no longer have to be bound by physical environments.”

BidemiLadipo, Head Enterprise Marketing, Etisalat Nigeria, ITRealms learnt, spoke on how Etisalat and Lumia are mobilizing businesses and helping them achieve great feats through seamless online connectivity and Microsoft Office 365 offerings.
