Online privacy: Kaspersky’s standalone VPN for Macs, PCs

The South African-based Kaspersky Lab, has introduced Secure Connection into its Nigerian market for encryption of traffics on Windows and Mac computers, reports ITRealms.

Based on the Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology, ITRealms gathered that with Secure Connection Kaspersky Lab, automatically enables encryption when the risk of data interception is most dangerous for the user, for example, when connecting to public Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) or using online banking or other sites containing private information.

ITRealms reports that unprotected or poorly protected, transfer of data puts a person's privacy, data and even their money at risk.

“By using tools that are freely available on the Internet, intruders can read and use information transmitted over these connections, including messages, passwords and files,” the lab warned.

ITRealms equally reports that, according Head, Consumer Business at Kaspersky Lab, Andrei Mochola, that Secure Connection promises reliable encryption of transmitted data, and if the user forgets to enable it, the solution will display a reminder when it is most needed.

“For example, it will offer its services if a Wi-Fi network is unsafe or – in the case of the Windows version – if the user attempts to open a site with critical information (email, online banking, e-payment system, online store or social networking site) without encryption. If preferred, Secure Connection can also be set to manual control or continuous encryption,” he said.

Mochola, noted that management of Secure Connection is worth mentioning separately, adding that duration and volume of encrypted traffic transmitted for each connection is easy via a My Kaspersky personal account, and the same portal could be used to control remaining megabytes in the free version.

“User security is our priority, which is why we aim to provide multi-level protection at every stage where users are at risk of losing anything. Traffic encryption is an essential component of digital protection, and we are now happy to provide it to all owners of Windows and Mac computers, and by the end of the year – to all mobile users as well,” he said.

Intel unveils 3G processors for PCs

Intel Corporation has unveiled its latest in stock quad-core Third Generation (3G) Intel Core processor family, with a promise to deliver dramatic visual and performance computing gains for gamers, media enthusiasts and mainstream users alike.

The product, which is now available in powerful, high-end desktop, laptop and sleek all-in-one (AIO) designs, ITRealms Online gathered are the first chips in the world made using Intel’s 22-nanometer (nm) 3-D tri-Gate transistor technology.
Intel vice president and general manager of the PC Client Group, Kirk Skaugen, said that the combination of Intel’s cutting-edge 3-D tri-gate transistor technology and architectural enhancements help make possible up to double the 3-D graphics and high definition (HD) media processing performance compared with Intel’s previous generation of chips.

He also said that as a result of the stunning, built-in visual performance, all the things people love to do on their PCs; from creating and editing videos and photos, surfing the Web, watching HD movies or playing mainstream games that are quicker, crisper and more life-like.

“With as much as 20 per cent microprocessor performance improvements and new technologies to speed the flow of data to and from the chips, the new processors further extend Intel’s overall performance leadership,” he said.

In the coming months, he pointed out that additional versions of the 3rd generation Intel Core processors will be available to power a new wave of systems ranging from Ultrabook devices, to servers and intelligent systems in retail, healthcare and other industries.

The 3G Intel Core processors, he said, were created from the ground up to generate exciting new experiences, stressing that Intel engineers have exceeded the expectations by doubling the performance of media and graphics versus the best processors ever built until today, which means incredible new visual experiences are here for new all-in-one PCs and upcoming Ultrabook devices.

“What makes all this possible is the combination of Intel’s leading manufacturing and processor architecture, and our unwavering commitment to drive computing innovations forward," he said.
