The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, on Monday expressed concerns about misconduct in Ajaokuta Steel Company and urged President Bola Tinubu to order a thorough investigation into reported mismanagement.

“If there are individuals or group of individuals protecting the corrupt managers of the Ajaokuta Steel Company and hereby shielding them from any form of probe and judgement, it simply means that they are beneficiaries of the ill-gotten proceeds of the mismanagement or they have other personal interests that are not people-friendly and that are tantamount to water down or nullify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's fight against corruption. These set of people should also be probed. They may even be part of those used by these selfish leaders to loot the treasury of the steel company dry.”

NANS to occupy Kirikiri prisons over detained 13 UNILAG students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) may Wednesday, occupy the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons in Lagos, over the remanding of 13 suspected students of the University of Lagos in Kirikiri, for lack of fulfilling bail application, reports ITRealms.

In an ultimatum made available to ITRealms in Abuja on Monday, NANS President, Chinonso Obasi, came a 24 hours ultimatum within which a Special Offences Mobile Court in Lagos, should release 13 students of the University of Lagos, currently being detained at the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons.

NANS threat came as it said to relocated its Headquarters in solidarity with its members, if government refuses to release the UNILAG students after the expiration of 24 hours deadline by Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Obasi, who condemned the action of the court which remanded the students in Kirikiri prisons, just as ITRealms gathered that the accused persons, were standing trial before Chief Magistrate P.E Nwaka, for alleged unlawful invasion of Television Continental (TVC) in Lagos.

They were arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful invasion and disruption of activities and have all pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the two-count charge.

The accused include Femi Adeyeye, Toni Aina, Kodri Yaya, Asimi Oladime, Ismahim Olalekan, Segun Okesola, Abdulazeez Soneye, Idris Abogunloko, and Muyiwa Olaniyi. Others were Toheed Oladimeji, Joseph Akanni, Lukumon Olusegun, and Abiodun Agbeniyi.

The magistrate, who ordered that the accused be remanded in prison, adjourned the case till April 6 for a determination of their bail.
