To realign Nigeria's digital talent pipeline, the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has appointed Princess Oforitsenere Emiko as the Interim Chairman of the Governing Board of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), reports ITREALMS.
Princess Emiko will head a restructured interim board designed to bring deep regulatory and technical oversight to the institute. She will be joined by top-tier executive talent from the NCC, including:
Engr. Abraham Oshadami: Executive Commissioner, Technical Services (Interim Board Member).
Ms. Rimini Makama: Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management (Interim Board Member).
This interim leadership team will work directly alongside the current President and CEO of DBI, Mr. David Daser, and other existing board members whose tenures remain unexpired, to spearhead the institutional overhaul.
Established by the NCC in May 2004, DBI was originally created as a specialized training hub for telecommunications and IT. However, over the last two decades, the sector has evolved from basic voice telephony into a broad, fast-moving digital economy.
With technological advancements moving at a breakneck pace, the NCC emphasizes that communications infrastructure and training have now escalated into matters of national sovereignty and economic security.
"Securing and advancing the future of communications and the digital economy is now a clear national and economic priority," the Commission noted, emphasizing that the transformation is heavily aimed at Nigeria’s youth.
With 70 percent of the Nigerian population under the age of 30, the DBI transformation is intentionally structured to empower the youth, arm them with advanced technical capabilities, and aggressively close the skills gap currently slowing down technology adoption across the country.
The newly repositioned institute will move away from legacy training models to aggressively concentrate on five key thematic areas:
Education and Training: Upskilling the workforce for next-generation technologies.
Research and Development (R&D): Fostering localized tech solutions.
Innovation: Creating incubation ecosystems for tech talent.
Economic Impact and Growth: Direct alignment with national GDP growth objectives.
Emerging Policy and Regulation: Preparing stakeholders for future governance frameworks.
Demonstrating the national scale of this transformation, the new DBI strategy was not developed in isolation. The NCC and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy successfully engineered cross-sector consultations to shape the blueprint.
Key collaborating institutions include, ITREALMS gathered include the Federal Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, and National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
