Between regulators and technology platforms - ITREALMS

Commentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

There is a perfect storm brewing between Regulators and Technology Platforms.

Regulators should ordinarily be one of the most critical enablers of a society. They, however, tend to be either a source of support or a headwind against progress.

The regulator should not constrict the pursuit of opportunity nor act in a manner to entrench protectionism.
I wrote this article five years ago in June 2016, and it still captures the essence of this fractious relationship.

I trust that your readers will find it insightful.

I was the facilitator at the ‘Digital Economy and Legal Resolution’ seminar for Lagos State Judges at the Lagos Business School (LBS) .

It is quite a delight to see how passionate their Lordships are about the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the emerging shared economy after breaking it down.

My main take at the event was that “The Fourth industrial revolution is like a train whose driver are the entrepreneur disrupters. The passengers are the global customers with a pent up demand for value and convenience. The Public and Traditional Private sector can stand in front and be crushed, stay on the platform and be left behind, or come along for the ride in progressive partnership”.

In her appreciation speech after the seminar, Justice Opeyemi Oke, representative of the Chief Judge of Lagos state remarked: ‘Thanks for the wisdom to come up with this Seminar. It shows you belong to the progressives, looking for ways to move the nation forward’.
