The Consumer Affairs Bureau (CAB) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will in September this year mark its 20th anniversary, reports ITREALMS exclusively.

Giving this insight, the Director of CAB, Mr. Efosa Idehen in a live video monitored by ITREALMS, said the department would 20 this year and did could not offer more insight on how it will be celebrated.

He gave this insight in a live video from the maiden edition of the Telecom Consumer Conversation recently held at Garki International Market, Abuja with the theme: "Know your Rights and Obligations as a Telecom Consumer."

ITREALMS recalled that CAB is one of the key departments of the Nigerian Communications Commission that was created in September 2001 through the provision of Chapter VII of Nigerian Communications Act (NCA 2003), in particular, Part I of the chapter which deals with Consumer Protection and Quality of Service.

ITREALMS also gathered that the Consumer Affairs Bureau has the vision to ensure that all consumers of telecommunications services in Nigeria are well informed and satisfied.

This, the director, motivated them to embark on the enlightenment at the market.

In addition, he said, this further strengthened CAB mission which is to ensure the protection of the rights, privileges and interests of telecommunications consumers, including the physically challenged groups through adequate information dissemination programmes; as well as effective policies and strategies that promote effective telecoms service delivery.

ITREALMS further gathered that CAB comprised of three units including the Information and Reference (I&R), Consumer Policy Development and Monitoring (CPDM) and Consumer Protection and Advocacy (CPA).
