Experts fault FG over publication of 100 travellers over COVID-19 test - ITREALMS

Cybersecurity experts in the country have faulted the Federal Government (FG) decision to publish some 100 travellers details for failure to undergo the mandatory COVID-19 test after 7 days of their return to the country, reports ITREALMS.
They alleged that the FG defaulted on observation of the National Data Protection Regulations (NDPR) policy annunciated since 2019.

NDPR implementation is being supervised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) under the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

According to some of them, "Surely this is a thoughtless and serious infringement of NDPR and cybersecurity risk."

The experts also posited that the NDPR defines 'personal data' as 'any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person ('data subject'); even as an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data etc.

ITREALMS gathered that FG claimed to have informed the affected travellers before now.

Meanwhile, ITREALMS recalls that the Federal Government had published the passport numbers of some 100 travellers, who failed to undergo the mandatory COVID-19 test after 7 days of their return to Nigeria.

Details of the passports were published by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Saturday, just as the restrictions started from January 1, 2021, and would last till June 30, 2021.
