Adeola leads speakers @ Broadband Investment summit

Investment expert and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) in just ended Presidential Election, Mr. Fola Adeola, would deliver the lead paper at the forthcoming Broadband Investment Summit billed for Lagos next month.

The summit being organized by the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) and BusinessWorld Communications, has received confirmation of major sponsors including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), Google Nigeria and MainOne Cable.

Disclosing these, president of ATCON, Mr. Titi Omo-Ettu said that Mr. Adeola’s lead paper would focus on a forecast into Nigeria’s investment climate in the next decade during which 50 million telecommunications users are expected to be connected on broadband internet access at the event schedule for July 26 through 27 in Lagos.

He also noted that the emphasis hitherto placed on ‘number of connected lines in Nigeria will be shifted to emphasis to ‘number of users’ of telecommunications services to reflect the true development requirement of empowering Nigerians with telecommunications.

Omo-Ettu contended that putting emphasis on number of lines is misleading as many telephones are serving one Nigerian contrary to the universal believe that every person is served by one mobile line.

The ATCON president also said that the Summit is a high level discussion event whose objective is to identify opportunities and challenges for universal access to broadband internet in Nigeria.

“… To sufficiently engender investment, create access, build a market, remove access barriers, and encourage infrastructure construction to ensure Nigerians begin to enjoy the benefits of today’s technologies,” he said.

Omo-Ettu underlined the fact that the Summit is not a typical talk-show but a practical discussion among industry regulator (NCC), investors, top players and senior executives of major telecommunication and finance institutions who need to do business in Nigeria and for whom information is waiting to meet such objective.

According to him, the Summit is three-in-one events, which involves a high level business discussion, exhibition of available products and services and presentation of an Investors’ Book.

“The book is a document which is promoted by ATCON as the roadmap to bringing internet access to the last man in Nigeria,” he said, noting that the summit would be for two days in Lagos.

Further, he said that participation is by special invitation and restricted to only those who have identifiable contribution to make to the process of implementing a workable programme for improving telecommunication access in Nigeria.

An investment guide will be presented to delegates at the summit, tagged ‘The investors’ Guide book’ is a total presentation of telecom industry data, players database and profile of those who will be front line players of the telecommunication in the second decode of telecommunications revolution in Nigeria.
