NCC calls for caution on race for new EVC

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has called for caution over the speculation surrounding the anticipated appointment of new Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Commission.

A press statement from NCC, endorsed by the Head, Media & Public Relations, Mr. Reuben Muoka, said that the attention of NCC has been drawn to numerous media reports speculating about the appointment of the new Executive Vice Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer for the Commission.

He noted that the Commission is concerned about the unusual attention directed on this issue in the media, and the level of propaganda, sentiments and insinuations attending these reports, some of which have no basis or reference to the position of the law guiding the appointment of the chief executive of the Commission.

As said by him, the frequency of these damaging speculations has become very suspect, hence the Commission wished to dissociate itself from these wild speculations and insinuations which may have been fuelled by some desperate lobbyists attempting to use the media to achieve their selfish motives.

He maintained that the appointment is the sole right of President and could not be achieved via media propaganda.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is the prerogative of the President of the Federation to appoint the new chief executive officer for the Commission at the appropriate time. We are confident that such decision will not be based on sentiments and insinuations sponsored in the media,” he said.

Daily Champion recalls that NCC is the independent national regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria, charged for creating an enabling environment for competition among operators in the industry as well as ensuring the provision of qualitative and efficient telecommunications services throughout the country.
