Telecom Answers, NCC partner on co-location forum

Plans are in high-gear for the hosting of the first-ever high-level business forum on co-location and infrastructure sharing of telecommunications facilities, being put together by Telecom Answers Associates (TAA) and the Nigerian Communications Committee (NCC).

Whereas TAA is a reputed telecommunications consulting firm, NCC is the industry regulator in the nation’s telecommunications sector.

Disclosing this to ITRealms Online, last weekend in Lagos, the managing consultant, Telecom answers Associates, Mr. Titi Omo-Ettu, said that the forum has become imperative in the face of emerging technologies.

He also said that the context of emerging technologies demands strategic business opportunities and regulatory issues arising from them.

Omo-Ettu explained that the forum would examine the place of co-location and infrastructure sharing within the telecom industry in Nigeria as well as determine options available to the industry to improve on quality of service (QoS), while fast-tracking service expansion nationwide.

Equally, he said that the forum is being strategically rooted to enable equipment vendors and service providers to showcase their products and services.

According to him, TAA has been holding consultations with senior industry players on the need to keep the tempo of developments in the sector sustained, especially as the world journey over the present economic crunch, which experts predict will change the dive hopefully before the end of next year.

Hence, he envisaged that 2011, which is an election year for Nigeria, will be a turning point when those who will mount the saddle of leadership should be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) savvy.

It is to this end, he pointed, that TAA decided to start now to synergize with willing industry players in the coming months to keep them abreast of values on emerging technologies which are capable of brightening the telecommunications industry, which is the true driver of the economy as of today.

Stressing that that was what gave birth to the concept of the forthcoming high-level stakeholders’ forum on co-location.

“The Nigerian Communications Commission had kindly agreed to collaborate with us and chances are that we find other interested players to partner with us on this and other subject areas as time go on,” he said.
