Reltel makes it happen wirelessly

Special Report:

The latest Universal Access Licensee, Reltelwireless, is dangling its campaign on ‘Making it happen’ to boost market share and put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

Founded in 1998, Reltelwireless, offers fixed wireless, mobile telephone as well as high-speed Internet and data services, with presence in over 12 cities, just as plans have been advanced to go live in about 30 more before December 2007.

The journey of making it happen with Reltelwireless began at the last quarter of 2006, when the management of Reltelwireless took a stand to reposition the telco and overtly change its image perception.

According to company sources, this followed a research commissioned by the telco and in order to carry this to the letter, four marketing communications consultancies attended an advertising pitch at the former corporate head office at Iganmu, Lagos in January 2007.

The outcome of the consultation was the resolve to catch in on the phrase, “Make It Happen” in the telco’s new campaign strategy with consideration given to the virtues of goals, love, friendship, fun, results and excitement.

Giving an insight into the entire refocused Reltelwireless, Head, Corporate Communications, Mr. Oge Udeagha informed that with eye on friendship, fun and results, the latest concepts were chosen as the most appealing after a mini survey thereby attracting more customers and bringing same nearer to the telco.

However, the commencement of the ‘change’ campaign on May 1, 2007, he said, marked another footprint of the telco on sands of time.

He explained that the press campaign was run in the major national dailies of Daily Champion, ThisDay, The Guardian, The Punch, and Vanguard. BusinessDay a daily specialized business newspaper as well as the popular sports daily, Complete Sports and the weekly softsell, City People magazine made up the platforms for the press campaign.

On below-the line campaign, all members of staff and management of Reltelwireless wore Reltelwireless “Make It Happen” branded face caps, polo and t-shirts on Fridays at work.

At a meeting with senior managers of Reltelwireless, the Executive Vice-chairman, Reltelwireless, Mr. Ken Aigbinode said that the “Make It Happen” is aimed at repositioning the company along different levels and would be used to drive home the telco’s new position as a communications solutions provider company not just a company offering voice service.

“Presently Reltelwireless offers voice; short message services (SMS), Internet and data. We “Make It Happen” for the consumer through the provision of a total communications package to meet his communication needs,” he asserted.

As said by Mr. Udeagha, Reliance Telecommunications Limited is licensed by National Communication Commission to provide Digital Fixed Telephone service in Nigeria under the brand name RelTel, currently offers a state of the art telecom network with services that will spur the industry further.

RelTel data plans, he said, is fast Internet data transmission at 153.6 kilo bytes per seconds (kbps).

It was not surprising, therefore, that Reltelwireless has continued to clinch industry awards on the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) category with the latest being the Nigerian Telecoms Awards.
