IDC plans IT infrastructure roadshow

Foremost authority on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) markets research, the International Data Corporation (IDC), has concluded plans to host an IT Infrastructure event in Lagos.

The event scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, this year is part of a series of roadshows being held in the Middle East and Africa region.

Regional Vice-President and Managing Director of IDC MEA, Mr. Jyoti Lalchandani, said that this year’s edition of IT Infrastructure roadshow will feature presentations by industry leaders and discussions on the latest trends and deployments of infrastructure technologies among key IT professionals in Nigeria.

“Delegates will also benefit from industry insights derived from IDC’s 43 years of experience analyzing ICT markets,” he said.

IT users in the region, he noted, are increasingly looking beyond the mere acquisition of servers and storage, and are instead gravitating towards a more holistic view that brings into focus the optimization of systems integration with business processes, and returns on investment.

“Globally, increased IT infrastructure demands are driving a transition to new technologies such as multi-core processors and server virtualisation,” he said, adding that while the rules of traditional backup, recovery, and archiving are being redefined.

According to him, a key issue to be discussed at the event and of special interest to large enterprise users with distributed processes and heavy IT investment – is virtualisation.

He disclosed that industry experts will be on hand to discuss the benefits of virtualisation and how users could set priorities to adopt it as well as consolidate and simplify their server and storage infrastructure.

The event, Mr. Lalchandani said, would offer an excellent opportunity for ICT stakeholders to network with industry analysts, interact with technology innovators, and share an understanding of industry best practices in the field of IT infrastructure.

He explained that IT infrastructure roadshow is part of a series of events being held in the MEA region and follows IDC’s similarly modelled Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) roadshow.

As said by him, the event usually attracts key IT personnel from key end-user organizations in the SMB segment, which constitutes over 95 per cent of all companies in the region.
