Intel unveils innovative mobile system on chips, LTE Solution

Intel Corporation has unveiled an innovative mobile system on chips, just as it listed partners on its Long Term Evolution (LTE) solution, reports ITRealms.

This is coming as Intel also announced collaborations with Ericsson, Samsung, others as part of broad effort spanning Silicon, devices, security and networking solutions.

Intel Corporation CEO, Brian Krzanich disclosed to a ITRealms that a series of mobile platforms including the company’s new low-cost system-on-chip (SoC) for phones, phablets and tablets, a global LTE solution, innovative personal computing experiences, and a range of customers for mobile device and network infrastructure offerings.

This, he said, include the Intel Atom x3 processor series, Intel’s first integrated communications SoC solution for the growing value and entry device markets, and the five-mode Intel XMM 7360 LTE Advanced solution, designed for performance and worldwide coverage.

Krzanich highlighted joint efforts with Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Huawei to address the demand for new telecommunications, cloud and data center services, improve network efficiencies, and accelerate the industry’s move toward a software-defined infrastructure.

Also he reiterated that Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users will have the latest anti-malware solution from McAfee VirusScan Mobile technology built into and activated on their devices. “The evolution of the mobile landscape and growth of smart, connected devices has led to increased demand for more connectivity and real-time, protected data on those devices,” said Krzanich. “All of these factors are driving a transformation of the network to accelerate the delivery of new personal computing experiences, services and capabilities in a safe and secure manner. Intel is one of the only companies in the world that can provide solutions end-to-end for the full spectrum of mobility.”

Lil Kesh, Reminsce Set FUTA on Fire with Etisalat Cliqfest

It was fun and excitement at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) as acclaimed most innovative telecommunications company, Etisalat, staged its special two-day Cliqfest event, reports ITRealms.

Etisalat Cliqfest ITRealms also reports that held this event at the university’s premises last weekend as a youth-centric, empowerment, and educative initiative that aims at boosting all-round development of the Nigerian youth.

The event which was anchored by ‘king of humour’ and fast growing Comedian of the Federal Republic (CFR), Bashiru Ahmed Adekunle, ITRealms gathered, witnessed performances from several sensations in the music industry such as Skales, Reminsce, Evelle, Lil Kesh, and Mo Easy.

According to the Manager, Youth Segment at Etisalat Nigeria, Idiareno Atimomo, “Etisalat is happy to bring fun and educative programmes to university students as it encourages young adults to connect with their peers and make them understand that the ability to succeed is available to anyone that believes. It is for this reason that Etisalat Nigeria is impacting students with the needed skills to prepare the Nigerian youth for the ever-dynamic world.”

Climaxing the event was the winning of a brand new car by Onoriukpe Timothy Efemena, a100 level Mechanical Engineering student at FUTA. Efemena rode home in a brand new Hyundai i10 car courtesy of Etisalat Nigeria. An obviously excited Efemena, who had just resumed at the university as a fresher, ITRealms learnt, commended the brand for giving him such a great opportunity. “Winning the highly coveted grand prize of a car is truly a dream come true for me and I am forever grateful to Etisalat for it,” he quipped.

CPN refutes media reports, insists not slated for scrap

The Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN) has refuted the news making a round in the media of its being slated for scrap by the Federal Government (FG), reports ITRealms.

The rebuttal came on the wake of a media report attributed to a cross section of Nigerian media based on Stephen Oronsaye’s presidential committee report on proposed scrapping of some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

According to the Registrar of CPN, Mr. Sikiru Shehu in a rejoinder made available to ITRealms, said that one of such report entitled “REJOINDER TO THISDAY NEWSPAPER STORY ON PAGES 23 AND 24 OF THURSDAY, 26TH FEBRUARY, 2015 TITLED ‘ORONSAYE'S REPORT: FG MOVES TO SCRAP COMPUTER PROFESSIONAL COUNCIL.’”

He said the story was totally false, untrue and a misrepresentation of facts.

“It is not true that government is considering or ever considered the scrapping of CPN,” he declared, stressing that CPN is an agency under the Federal Ministry of Education duly established by law [Act No. 49 of 1993] with a very clear and unambiguous mandate to regulate, control and supervise the Information Technology profession in the country.

CPN, Shehu insisted, has been faithful to its mandate and “so government is not considering scrapping it.”

On the issue of salary stoppage of its staff, the registrar alleged a misunderstanding of a circular issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in 2014, which has since been corrected.

“In fact, CPN will be defending its budget at the National Assembly in the first week of March, 2015,” he declared.

As said by him, CPN remains the only Federal Government Agency charged with the responsibility of regulating, controlling and supervising the computing industry in the country.

Maintaining that CPN is busy engaging in the discharge of its duties and responsibilities to its members, students, partners, affiliates, organizations, institutions, etc., and even looking forward to hosting its annual flagship event ‘The Information Technology Professionals Assembly’ in Calabar, Cross Rivers State from 10th-11th June, 2015 at the Transcorp Hotel.

Shehu further insisted the report was erroneous and beckoned its members to disregard any such report, while soliciting journalists to always confirm their facts from authentic and reliable sources within the organization rather than patronizing faceless and uninformed 'anonymous' sources before rushing to press, especially for the growth of the IT profession.

Okere takes CWG 2.0 to Columbia Business School

The Founder and Chief executive officer (CEO) of the Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) Plc, Mr. Austin Okere has been confirmed as guest speaker at the forthcoming workshop at the Columbia Busines School (CBS) in New York, United States, reports ITRealms.

Confirming this to ITRealms, Success Nmerife, Head, Corporate Affairs at CWG said that Mr. Okere who is fulfilling his mandate as Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at Columbia Business School (CBS), New York would be speaking on “Riding the whirlwind of the new digital age, CWG 2.0 – An Emerging Market Perspective of Innovation.”

ITRealms also gathered that the workshop has been slated for Friday, 5^th of March, 2015 at CBS New York, at the Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Centre by noon.

Google's Charleston wins ICANN’s auction for APP with N5bn price

Charleston Road Registry Inc has won the ICANN’s auctioned one new generic top-level domain (gTLD) string: .APP with the sum of $25,001,000, about N5,063,952,550.00, reports ITRealms.

ITRealms notes that Charleston Road Registry is an American company, wholly owned by Google, which was established to provide registry services to the Internet public.

On Wednesday, 25 February 2015, ITRealms reports that Power Auctions LLC, an ICANN's authorized auction service provider, conducted a new gTLD Programme Auction to resolve string contention for one new generic top-level domain (gTLD) string: .APP.

ITRealms also reports that applicants for the string were unable to resolve contention among themselves; thus their contention set proceeded to auction, which is the method of last resort to resolve string contention as prescribed in Module 4 of the New gTLD Programme Applicant Guidebook. 

According to the Global Director, Media at ICANN, Mr. Brad White, subject to payment of the winning price and meeting all other criteria for eligibility, the winner will enter ICANN's contracting process to sign a Registry Agreement to operate the gTLD.

He also confirmed to ITRealms that the winner emerged after the auction contested by 12 applicants in the auction for APP. 

“Charleston Road Registry Inc. prevailed with a winning price of $25,001,000,” he said.

Mr. White disclosed to ITRealms that all proceeds from the auction are being segregated and withheld from use until ICANN's Board of Directors define a plan for an appropriate use of the funds through consultation with the community.

Worthy of note by ITRealms notes that Charleston Road Registry according to ICANN books, applied for 101 new top level domains including .web, .tech, .search, .cloud .chrome, .youtube and .google.
