The attack occurred while Obi was in Benin for the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement:

Gunmen reportedly trailed Obi’s convoy from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

The assailants opened fire at the gate of the residence and damaged several vehicles in the convoy.

Although Peter Obi escaped unharmed, and his media adviser, Valentine Obienyem, and other aides have confirmed he is safe.

ITREALMS gathered that at least two people were shot during the chaos; one at the secretariat and another in the neck near the residence.

"They were rushed to the hospital for treatment," a close source said.

Reacting, Peter Obi, described the incident as "totally unacceptable," noting that the bullets destroyed gates and vehicles at the home of a former governor.

He attributed the desperation to political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly retaliated, causing the hoodlums to flee the scene.

This incident followed a controversial public warning issued in July 2025 by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who told Obi not to enter the state without informing him.

As of this evening, security agencies have not issued an official statement regarding arrests, though police were seen at the scene following the shooting.
