The Dangote Group is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Honeywell International Inc. to support the next phase of expansion for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, advancing its vision to create the world’s largest integrated petroleum refining and petrochemical complex, reports ITREALMS.Strategic collaboration includes significant expansion across refining, petrochemicals, and fertilizer production, strengthening Nigeria's industrial footprint.
The collaboration is set to utilize Honeywell’s advanced technology and services to boost the refinery’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day (BPD) by 2028. This monumental increase marks a major milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and industrial self-sufficiency.
Through this agreement, Honeywell will supply specialized catalysts, cutting-edge equipment, and proprietary process technologies. This strategic supply will allow the refinery to process a broader slate of crude grades with maximum efficiency, further enhance product quality and compliance with global standards, and significantly improve operational reliability and uptime.
Honeywell’s division UOP has been a key technology partner to the Dangote Group since 2017, already providing essential refining systems, catalyst regeneration equipment, and high-performance heat exchanger technologies that underpin current best-in-class operations.
The partnership extends beyond the refinery expansion to accelerate growth in the Group’s adjacent industrial sectors. As part of the wider collaboration, the Dangote Group is scaling its polypropylene capacity to 2.4 million metric tons annually using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology. Polypropylene is a key industrial material widely used across packaging, manufacturing, and automotive applications, solidifying Dangote’s petrochemical footprint.
The partnership extends beyond the refinery expansion to accelerate growth in the Group’s adjacent industrial sectors. Additionally, the Dangote Group is progressing with the next phase of its fertilizer expansion plan in Nigeria. We will increase our urea production capacity from 3 million metric tons to 9 million metric tons annually.
This expansion, ITREALMS gathered, will add four new trains to the existing two trains, meeting growing demand for high-quality fertilizer across Africa and global markets.
